Chapter 19: Trouble

Clara gasped and instantly felt apprehensive and she stood up immediately to leave the place.

One of the men who had a snake tattoo on his neck grabbed her hand immediately while ogling at her with a malicious grin, displaying his yellow teeth. “Little kitty, where do you think you’re going?”

Clara looked at the broad hand holding hers and instantly felt disgusted. She shook off his hand heavily and took a step back. “W–What do you want,” she asked nervously with a pale face.

They took a step closer to her and another man said, while attempting to touch her again. “Don’t be afraid, little kitty. Come come we won’t bite.”

And the other men laughed viciously while the first man clutched her bag.

“S–Stay away from me.” Clara took another step back with a frightened look and held her bag tightly. She was having a bad premonition about what could happen next.

The four men surrounded her shortly and she gasped and anxiously looked around then found out that the few people at the place a while ago had already dispersed.

Her heart thumped rapidly while staring at the dangerous men with wide eyes and she impulsively turned around and kicked the man who was behind her in the groin then she hastily started running in a random direction.

The other men were shocked at how nimble the girl was and stood transfixed with wide eyes.

Their leader who was kicked in the groin grimaced with anguish and glared at his partners who were looking dumbstruck. “Fools! What are you waiting for? Get her!”

And the men broke out of their stupor and ran after the girl who was already a far distance from them.

Mira was cheerfully screaming on the roller coaster unaware of the person who was intently gazing at her from below.

When the roller coaster came to a stop, she was looking slightly exhausted but a smile was still plastered on her face. She thought about Clara and the rest then quickly removed the seat belt and when she was about to stand up from the seat, a figure abruptly entered, preventing her from getting down.

Her head jerked up and her eyes widened for a second before she quickly changed her expression and her bright eyes instantly darkened. “Y–You. What are you doing here?” she said while pointing her fingers at the man who had sat down beside her.

The roller coaster launched again and she almost bumped her head. Zach quickly held her in place and fastened her seatbelt.

Mira shoved his hands and quickly distanced herself from him. “Don’t touch me,” she said with a dark expression.

Zach sighed with a solemn look, then he gazed into her bright eyes and said softly, “I’ll explain everything, please listen.”

Mira’s body stiffened and she looked up with a pained expression, her eyes glossy with tears. “It’s too late Zach. There is nothing left to explain,” she whispered softly.

Then the roller coaster came to a halt. She removed her seatbelt and stood up, her back facing him. “I am contented with my current life… Please don’t look for me again.” And she paused and chuckled sadly. “Hehe, does it make you so happy to see me suffer?” She said and shut her eyes, stopping the tear that was about to trickle down her face.

Without giving him another glance, she walked out of the seat.

Zach stared at her back with a gloomy expression and sighed helplessly. He finally found her after searching for a very long time “Miranda,” he whispered sadly.

Mira walked dejectedly towards the ice cream stand with a hand placed on her burning chest. There was an indescribable emotion of pain inside her heart. She wiped the tear that had already trickled down her face and sniffed.

She looked up at the sky and sighed heavily. ‘What does he really want? Is he feeling guilty or what? Hehe,’ she thought depressingly and then heard hurried footsteps behind her. She turned back hopefully, only to see Jack running towards her.

“Mira, where have you been? I searched for you everywhere,” Jack asked while panting heavily and sweat trickling down his forehead.

Mira quickly changed her expression and rubbed the back of her neck while smiling at him apologetically. “Hehe, I went to ride the roller coaster.”

Jack was speechless and could only shake his head helplessly.

“Ehm, where are the rest?” she asked him while walking forward and Jack followed her.

“Clara and I left the girls alone at the ice cream stand to look for a lost baby,” Jack said in an accusing manner.

Mira gave him a forced smile and rolled her eyes while he was not looking. ‘Baby huh? Just you wait and see.’

When they reached the ice cream stand, they saw the twins eating another cup of ice cream and looking around now and then. They were obviously bored.

The kids spotted them and their eyes brightened instantly. They stood up excitedly and ran toward them.

Mira carried Mia and Jack carried Lea and they both thanked the ice cream vendor.

Jack asked Lea who was clumsily playing with his collar. “Where’s Aunt Clara?”

Lea shook her head with a puzzled look and Mia answered, “Mummy’s not back.”

Jack shook his head and laughed lightly. The kids obviously liked calling her Mummy.

Mira gasped and hurriedly said, “Oh no, what do we do?”

Jack rolled his eyes and gave her an ‘It’s your fault’ look. And Mira ignored him knowing well that she couldn’t retort because it was truly her fault.

They stood there looking around and after a while, Mira turned to Jack worriedly and said, “I think we should look for her.”

Jack nodded his head quickly and replied with an anxious expression, “Okay.”

“What happened to mummy?” Lea asked Jack in her childish voice.

“Mummy went to look for this baby and got lost,” Jack replied to the girl with a smile and gave Mira a provocative look.

Mira who was anxiously looking around heard him and took a while to register his words. She turned to him sharply with a raised brow. “You… I’m not a baby.”

Jack chuckled and said, “Then tell me who sneakily ran off to ride a roller coaster.”

Mira was speechless and thought, ‘This guy is very annoying.’

She pouted her lips, feeling offended, and quickly walked away to look for Clara with little Mia in her arms, leaving him behind.

Jack laughed and also followed her with the other twin in his arms.

Zach watched them from afar and his heart sank. Although he could only see the man’s back, he noticed from their interaction that they seemed close. “Has she married?” he muttered astonishingly and quickly shook his head. “Impossible.”
