Chapter 25: A Mole II

Some minutes later, Zach came out dressed in the same outfit as his brother. He sat down on the sofa before saying softly, “Big bro, now that they’ve known about sister-in-law, what do you think we should do?” Now that their enemies had discovered his brother’s weakness, he knew they would stop at nothing to bring him down.

Zach had already seen this coming but he didn’t expect them to find out so soon.

“Big bro, we need to protect sister-in-law,” he added slowly then sighed heavily while staring at his brother whose eyes were closed and he shook his head gloomily.

Just because of one mistake his brother made many years ago, he was determined to capture the man who was behind that incident, which led them all to this mess.

Carl listened to his brother’s words silently and so many thoughts ran through his head. A soft sigh escaped his lips.

Clara sat on the couch facing the TV and was happily eating a snack. She was wearing casual home clothes, a yellow t-shirt and black shorts, with her long hair cascaded on her left shoulder.

Her phone suddenly started ringing and she picked it up then saw her sister’s name displayed on the screen.

“Hey, Lily, what’s up, how’s Mum and Dad?” Clara asked cheerfully after she pressed the receive button.

And a timid voice was heard from the other end. “Big sis, the new year holiday is approaching… Ehm, will you make it?” her sister asked hesitantly.

Clara frowned and replied, “Of course, did something happen? what is wrong with your voice?” She wondered why her sister was talking so quietly.

“N–nothing, I–I just want to know if you’ll be able to return,” her sister said from the other side.

“Lily, you know I always come home for the new year’s holiday. Tell me what is wrong. Why do you sound like you’ve cried?” Clara asked worriedly.

“Hehe, it’s nothing, Big sis. Take care of yourself,” Lily said, her voice now brightened a little.

“Okay, Lily, take care of yourself too and read well for your exams. Send my regards to Mum and Dad, tell them I miss them so much,” Clara said softly.

“Will do, Big sis. Love you… Bye.”

“Okay, bye-bye.”

Clara put down the phone and wondered what was wrong with her sister. ‘Maybe she’s sick again,’ she thought gloomily.

Clara had been the only healthy person in the family. Although they looked fine, her parents and little sister always come down with little illness from time to time.

She remembered that their grandmother would always call her a bad omen bringing bad luck to the family. She sighed and put the thoughts aside then continued watching the TV.

After some time her doorbell rang and she went to open it with a smile, knowing well the people at the door.

“Hi, Mummy.”

“Hi, Mummy.”

The twins said concurrently in their cute voices and Clara’s heart melted.

Lara chuckled while looking at the twins then turned to Clara. “I’ll be off now. Sorry for troubling you.” She smiled gratefully.

Clara took the twin’s hands and shook her head hastily. “It’s nothing, Lara. And besides, I love my cute babies,” she said with a cheeky smile and the twins giggled.

“Bye-bye, mama.” The twins kissed their mum goodbye and went inside with Clara.

After that day, the twins preferred to stay with Clara whenever their mum was on night duty. So their nanny stopped coming and Clara wholeheartedly took care of them.

She took the twins inside and made milk for them before changing the channel to kids network as usual.

Some minutes passed by and the twins fell asleep then she took them inside the bedroom and carefully lay them on the bed before joining them.

She gazed at the ceiling and sighed happily then took out her phone to stare at Carl’s messages. He had been texting her these past few days to either ask what she was doing or in the night, he would ask how her day was.

Although their conversations had always been short, she felt really happy that she was at least getting to know him. ‘Hmmm, I hope he would love me too’ she thought dreamily. She didn’t just want to be his friend, her greatest wish was to be his love.

She put down the phone and closed her eyes with a blissful smile.

— At Cha mansion —

“Mummy. mummy, Big brother is here.” Lucy ran to her mum cheerfully who was in the garden and picking some flowers.

Lucy’s mother turned back with a slight smile on her face and saw her energetic daughter sprinting towards her with her eldest stepson strolling behind. She was wearing a simple floral dress and her features looked completely different from her daughter’s who inherited most of her father’s features except for her eyes which looked exactly like her mother’s.

Carl strode towards his stepmother and peck her on the cheeks. “Mum,” he greeted, smiling at her.

“I missed you so much, Son. How have you been?” His stepmother asked with a smile and handed Lucy the flowers she was holding.

“Mm. I’m good,” Carl replied softly with a nod. Although he was already six when his father married his stepmother, he liked her the instant she came into the house because she was very kindhearted and took care of them very well. Even though she didn’t have Lucy until eleven years later, she was never bothered and took them as her own.

“Big bro, come. Dad is in the study room, he’s asking for you,” Lucy said excitedly while putting one of the flowers in her hair.

“Come on, Son. Let’s go.” his stepmother held his arm and they walked into the mansion.

When they entered, his father was already walking down the stairs after coming out of the study room.

“Father,” Carl greeted and sat down on the couch then faced his father who was now sitting on the opposite couch.
