Clara was striding out of her apartment building as she was almost late for work when she suddenly bumped into someone. She gasped and looked up then she was met with an unfamiliar face.
“I’m so sorry, Miss. Are you okay?” the guy asked worriedly seeing that her forehead which bumped into his chest was slightly red.
Clara shook her head and replied hastily, “Yes, I’m fine.” Then she quickly left while checking her wristwatch.
The guy stared at her back for some time before heading upstairs.
“Oh no, I can’t believe I’m almost late.” Clara quickly descended the stairs almost tripping. She remembered that she had been waiting for Carl’s text and due to that, she slept late last night.
When she reached the entrance, she spotted a familiar car parked at the side of the street. Her expression softened immediately and she heaved a sigh of relief. “Today’s my lucky day I guess,” she muttered happily and skipped towards the car.
“Hey, Jack.” Clara sat down in the car and fastened her seatbelts.
“Hehe, Clara. You looked like you were about to go to war a while ago, what happened?” Jack asked with a chuckle remembering her anxious expression when she rushed out of the apartment building.
Clara turned to him with a smile and said, “I’m almost late for work, let’s go.”
“Oh,” Jack nodded with a smile. This girl would not stop amusing him.
“Big bro, are you going to sister-in-law’s place?” Zach asked, looking expectantly at his brother who was sitting in the back seat.
“Mm,” Carl replied while his attention was on his phone.
Zach was instantly excited and he muttered rapidly, “That’s more like it, Big bro… I thought you were going to give up since she has a boyfriend. And besides, there’s no woman in this world who could resist your charms, I bet sister-in-law will fall head over heels for you.”
Carl looked up at his brother and remembered that he didn’t know anything about what happened at the amusement park the other day. He contemplated for a while before saying, “He is her friend.”
Zach paused for a while before opening his eyes wide and excitement was all over his face. “Really?”
“Big bro, but that guy looks suspicious and he seems familiar like I’ve seen him somewhere before,” Zach added in an uncertain tone with his hand slightly tapping his chin with a dazed look on his face. And after a while, as if he had remembered something, he hastily turned to his brother almost jumping out of the seat with wide eyes. “Big bro, if I’m not wrong… That guy is undoubtedly Jack. It’s been so many years that’s why I didn’t recognize him at first glance.”
He stared at his brother who was resting peacefully in the back seat without a hint of astonishment on his face. “Big bro, you already knew?” Zach asked in a worried tone.
Carl replied, “Mm.” and let out a soft sigh.
Zach also did not say anything further and just focused on the road.
They soon arrived in front of Clara’s apartment building and Zach parked the car in a corner then turned to his brother who had been silent all the time. “Big bro, we’ve arrived. Hehe, shouldn’t we go inside?” Zach asked impatiently.
Carl looked at the big apartment building bustling with people and decided to give Clara a call.
“Look look. Isn’t that sister-in-law?”
Carl suddenly heard his brother say just as he brought his phone out and was about to dial her number.
He looked up instantly and spotted her with the bright morning light against her fair skin.
It had been long since he last saw her and even though they texted each other almost every day, his heart skipped a bit and a subtle smile appeared on his face.
Carl was still staring at her and was about to get down from the car when he noticed her looking around hastily as if looking for someone then she spotted something ahead and rapidly ran towards a car then got inside.
All that happened in a second and Carl was left perplexed. He gazed at the car she just entered and his expression darkened immediately.
“Big bro, isn’t… Isn’t that his car? Why is he picking up sister-in-law?” Zach asked while pointing ahead with shaking fingers. He knew his guess was correct but why was he with sister-in-law again?
“Big bro, are you sure Jack is just friends with sister-in-law?” He was afraid that things were about to get complicated and he turned to his brother with anxiousness all over his face.
Carl did not respond and slowly looked down at the number he was about to dial with a solemn expression. After a while, he opened his mouth and uttered, “Drive.”
“Big bro, do you mean we should follow them?” Zach asked and glanced at the car which was already driving away.
“No,” Carl replied and sighed. He need to take things slow. He knew Jack was still mad because of what happened.
Zach sighed and turned the car back on the road. He just hoped his brother would not give up sister-in-law just because of what happened in the past.
