Chapter 37: The CEO

Derek nodded his head and said, “Thanks a bunch, dude.” with a smile.

After John left, Derek settled the bill and they both left the coffee shop.

— Cha Corporation —

Carl sat on the large couch in his office with a dark expression while a middle-aged man stood in front of him, perspiring heavily.

“Speak.” he gazed coldly at the man with a murderous aura surrounding the atmosphere.

“I… I d–didn’t know about it, the contract w–was checked by m–my assistant,” the man stammered. He had been standing here for a long time and felt he was about to have a mental breakdown if his boss did not stop investigating him. He did not want to reveal that he had a shady agreement with the owner of the construction company before signing the contract, as that may cost him his life remembering the dangerous man who owned the company. Therefore he lay all the blame on his assistant.

Zach sat quietly in a corner and yawned then looked up at the man who had been repeating the same thing for the umpteenth time. He would glare now and then at David, who was standing close to his brother, while slowly flipping through the huge stack of documents that was given to him by his brother.

Carl narrowed his eyes and studied the man in front of him. He gave him a chance to confess but the dumb man kept lying through his teeth by putting all the blame on his innocent assistant. He had finally reached his limit and he turned to his assistant and said, “The contract.”

“Y–Yes, Sir.” David quickly handed his boss the contract and retracted to a corner. He was afraid Mr. Ning did not know what it meant to offend his boss and was even surprised that boss was giving him chance to confess. He sighed inside and slowly watched as the drama unfolded.

Carl flung the contract at the man who quickly took it with shaking hands. “Terminate the contract, I don’t care how you do it the company will not be responsible. . . and you’re fired,” he said gravely then rose to his feet.

“Huh?” the manager was baffled for a second and held the contract with a stupid expression while letting the words sink in then his pupils dilated and he slumped down on his knees. “P–please, S–Sir, I beg you… I didn’t know. . . please forgive me,” he pleaded with clasped hands and more sweat trickled down his forehead. He regretted having a deal with that detrimental man and how could he possibly breach the contract without getting hurt, his life was on the line.

“Sir, p–please reconsider, that is the best construction company in the whole country… if… if we breach the contract we can’t find a better one. . . w–we can still make some amendments. . .” Mr. Ning regained back his confidence a little and pleaded once more. He was determined to save his life no matter what it took.

Zach yawned again and closed the document in front of him then picked up another larger one which he slammed on the table and chuckled maliciously. “Shut up, old man, do you think Big bro is not aware of that?… If I were you, I would obediently pack my things and leave the company without causing any more ruckus.”

Mr. Ning was baffled by the young master’s speech and he cowered from the guy’s malicious gaze. Staying in the same proximity with the two brothers he had a feeling of danger lurking in the air, even though one was frowning and the other one was smiling. “B–but —_” he stammered again but was instantly cut off by.

“Get out!!!” Carl was now sitting in his swivel chair and he gave the man a ferocious glare.

Mr. Ning trembled and he felt his whole nerves break down. He stared at both brothers and felt they were even more dangerous than the man he was afraid of and quickly scrambled out of the office with all his limbs.

David shook his head in disbelief at what just happened. He was sure if the cowardly man saw the true side of his boss, he would surely die out of shock.

“But, Big bro, isn’t that step-uncle’s company? Why would they engage in such a shady deal with that old fat?” Zach stood up and went close to his brother with knitted brows after the man left.

“Yes, Sir. I don’t see why they would engage in bribery before they would get a contract…” David also added. As far as he knew, the Lin family, as also one of the richest families in the country, would not resort to such means to get a contract unless…

“Big bro, do you think they have ulterior motives?… Shit! I don’t trust that old man at all.” Zach ran his hand through his hair and paced around the office.

“Mm.” Carl made an affirmative sound. He had always been suspicious of that man since they were little and his instincts told him that he was up to no good whenever they met.

He looked up at his assistant and uttered, “Get the ones from abroad.”

“Yes, Sir,” David replied and heaved a sigh of relief. As expected from his boss.

“Big bro, isn’t that very expensive. . .” Zach said with furrowed brows and sat on the large couch that his brother was sitting on before.

David’s mouth twitched at the sides and he stared at Zach with disbelief while wondering if something was wrong with his head.

Zach glanced in David’s direction and caught him giving him a ‘Are you sick’ look. He scowled at him and turned to his brother again. “Hehe, Big bro. . . don’t you think David has a lot of free time these days? why not leave the project to him. . . I’m sure he can handle it very well.”

Carl frowned and wondered what his brother was up to again. He wanted to disagree when Zach quickly added with a mischievous grin.

“Hehehe. . . You can also have plenty of time for sister-in-law.”
