Chapter 36 (DON’T TRUST YOU)

“What are you doing up here?” Harry turned around and saw his Mum. She was carrying Jeff. “Mum.” He wanted to take Jeff from her but she refused to hand him to him. “Tell me what you are doing here first,” she said.

“I’m just watching the Servants work. And besides, this isn’t my first time standing here.” He stretched out his hand for Jeff again.

“Can you just give me my son?” he asked her when she refused again. “Why would I.” She rolled her eyes. “Mum, let’s not do this. Jeff is my son and I have the right to carry him whenever I want.”

“And oh that reminds me. Where’s the contract you took from me yesterday?” His Mum didn’t know what to say to him. She couldn’t tell him she gave it to Naomi whom she has been hiding from people for years.

“Boss, Emily.” Ron pointed to Emily who was coming over to work too with a scissors in her hand. Beside her were Naomi and Michael. “No,” Mum said under her breath.

She was shocked to see the three of them again. Harry turned around and saw them, he’d wanted to wave to her but his Mum was there.

“Emily look, there’s your son.” Michael pointed to the balcony. “Stop pulling my legs.” She rolled her eyes without looking there. “I’m serious.” He said but she didn’t look. “I’ve already promised myself not to fall in to any other lies.”

“This is Michael talking to you, not Naomi,” he said and Emily sighed. “Okay fine.” She looked up and there he was in Harry’s Mum’s hand. “My son!” she exclaimed. “See, I told you,” Michael smiled.

“Whoa! I wish I can see his face,” she said sadly. She didn’t see Harry who was looking at her.

His Mum turned and hurried away from the balcony without them even knowing. She went to her room and gave a call to Madam Gloria to take them all away.

“Let’s go kids,” she said to the servants after dropping the call. “But we haven’t done with the work.” A girl said to her. “Don’t worry about that. We’ll come back some other time,” she said and they happily started walking away.

They were all happy except Emily and Michael. Naomi has no interest staying there and she followed the servants away.

“I know it was her that told Madam Gloria to take us all away. I think she saw us,” Michael said and Emily sighed. “I know. That woman is really going far.” She exhaled. “Let’s go.” Emily and Michael went away too not because she wanted to. She had wanted to see Jeff closely.

“Do you know she did that on purpose?” Naomi said to them immediately they returned back to the garden. “Yes, we know.” Emily sat down on the bench.

“What do you want to do to that woman? I want to help,” Naomi said and Emily chuckled. “You keep saying this. Why do I feel strange about it? Are you up to something?” she asked her.

“Nope, I just like things with vengeance in it,” she smiled. “Oh okay.” Emily sighed and turned to Michael who was so lost in thought.

“What am I going to do about this, I can’t watch the tree of them together. They’ve already became friends and Emily has started bossing them. She went as far as sending Naomi to come get the contract. Oh God, those kids told Emily everything. What should I do now? Should I call Emily and tell her not to tell anyone about that?”

She paced around the room thinking of what to do. Evelyn was confused, her heart made a skip when she saw Emily with her kids. She didn’t want anyone to know about those kids not even Emily.

“Emily won’t take this easy, she would try to get back at me by using the twins. Is it okay if I show the kids to Grandma and their siblings now? Is it okay if I reveal them? But what if something happened. What if what I’ve been keeping for years come out to be true? Oh God!”

She sat on the sofa and exhaled deeply.

“If Emily exposed me now, things would be so difficult for me. I can’t face anyone. I still don’t want the twins, they aren’t healthy. Michael is still on braces and Naomi, she looks healthy but she isn’t. I can’t afford to break my reputation.” She supported her chin with her right hand.

“Mum, what’s going on here?” She was so lost in thought that she didn’t know Harry has entered the room. “What are you doing here?” she quickly stood on her feet. “I came to have a talk with you, Mum,” he said surprised by her behavior.

“I'm not in the mood now, come back some other time,” she said “But I want us to talk now. Mum, why have you been acting so strange? Are you hiding something from me or you are already feeling bad about what you did to Emily?” he asked and she chuckled.

“Are you kidding me? Do you think I’ll regret what I did to that girl? I will never do that. She deserves what I did to her and there’s nothing to regret about,” she chuckled.

“But your expression changed when you saw Emily earlier,” he said. “That’s not it. Just leave.” She pointed to the door. “I don’t know what’s happening but this isn’t how you’ve been treating me. You don’t even shout at me but now you do. Mum, why did you take the document from me? I need it.” He looked around the room.
