Chapter 38 (ABNORMAL)

“Forget it.” She had wanted to talk to him about yesterday but thought it wasn’t necessary as she didn’t want to remind him of his past. “Let’s go look for her.” She took the watery can from him and dropped it on the ground.

They went round the Quarters but couldn’t find Naomi.

“I wonder where she is.” Michael said “Have you checked the backyard?” she asked him and he nodded his head. “Then let’s go check it out. She might be there.” They made their ways to the backyard and there she was sitting on a bench reading a book.

“Naomi, we’ve been looking for you everywhere.” She quickly hid the book behind her when she saw them coming. “Oh.”

“What are you hiding?” Emily asked her. “Nothing,” she said. “You are hiding something. What is that book you were reading?” Michael asked. “I wasn’t reading any book.” She rolled her eyes.

“Naomi, you are lying. I always know when you are lying. Tell me the book you are reading.” Michael went closer to her. “Oh come on.” She brought out the book.

“It’s just a diary.” She sad. “Diary, whose diary?” Michael took it from her. “Since when did you start writing a diary? You didn’t even tell me.”

“Whoa, must she tell you she’s keeping a diary?” Emily was surprised. “Yes.” The twins chorused. “Oh okay,” she nodded her head. “But this isn’t your diary, this isn’t the way you write,” Michael said and Naomi nodded her head.

“Yes it’s not mine. It’s Evelyn’s,” she said. “Wait what! You took it from her room? Why?” Michael was shocked. “Yes I took it from her room. I just saw it on the table and I decided to carry it and see what she’s hiding from the world.”

“Who’s Evelyn?” Emily asked. “Harry’s Mum,” Michael sighed. “Oh my God!” she exclaimed. “Did you read anything unusual?” Michael asked her.

“Yes but I’m not done reading it.” He gave her back the diary. “Then read it all and tell us what’s in there,” he said. “Alright, you two should get going now. I don’t want any disturbance.” She waved them away.

Four days later, Harry and his mum were in the dining table eating dinner. His Mum wasn’t eating well like she always does and that disturbed him.

“Mum.” He called. “What is it this time?” she sighed. “You aren’t eating,” he said. “I’m not hungry.” She dropped the fork on the plate and stood up. “Where are you going?” he asked her.

“To my room,” she said and just as she was about to leave, the door opened and Ron came in with two traveling bags. They were surprised to see him with bags not until Grandma stepped in.

“Grandma?” Harry stood up. “Mum?” His Mum was shocked. “What’s all this? Why are you two acting surprised? Didn’t I tell you I’ll be home in two months time?” she chuckled and sat down on the sofa.

“It’s just that it’s so fast,” Harry said and she scoffed. “Then send me away.” She looked at Evelyn who was standing in one spot. “And you, didn’t you see me? Or you also don’t want me to return?”

“I… I…” She went closer “You are welcome home, Mum.” She faked a smile. “Stop faking it. I know the both of you don’t want me to return back to this house again and for your information, I won’t be traveling any time soon. Your sister wants me to stay with her forever but I chose here because you guys need someone to watch over you. Your behaviors are abnormal.” She turned to Ron who has returned back.

“Take the keys.” She gave him the keys to her room and he went back upstairs. “Where are the maids? The house looks so empty,” she asked. “They are in the kitchen,” Harry said. “Still working by this time of the day?” she turned to Evelyn.

“Do you know you are so wicked? I’ve told you times without numbers not to overwork those kids, they are humans like you,” she sighed. “I know many things have changed here and I’ll take care of it.”

“And you, go call the maids.” She said to Harry. He exchanged glances with his Mum before going to the kitchen.

The girls nearly pushed him out of the way when he told them Grandma was back and wanted to see them.

“Grandma, you are back,” they said excitedly. “Yes girl, I’m finally back. How have you been? No need to answer that because I already know the answer. Go clean my room and retire to bed.” She instructed them and they happily left.

“And for you…” She paused when she started hearing a baby’s cry. “Wait, isn’t that a baby’s voice crying?” she asked but no one answered her. She listened attentively and indeed, it was a baby’s cry.

“You brought the baby back?” she asked Harry. “Yes.” He answered “And where’s the mother?” she asked him again. Harry looked at his Mum and then at Grandma.

“Mum,” Evelyn interrupted him. “She left,” she said and Grandma raised a brow. “She left, to where?” she asked Surprisingly. “She ran away again.” She lied.

“Without her child? And you think I believe you?” she chuckled. “You sent her away right? Evelyn, you sent that girl away and took the little boy from her. Good gracious.” She shook her head.

“Go bring the child!” she yelled at Harry and he hurried upstairs. “And you, you’ll explain to me what you did to that innocent girl. I don’t trust you.”

Harry returned back with Jeff who was still crying.
