“Really? Okay then, I’ll ignore him.” She held Naomi’s hand. “I was so scared,” she sighed. “Don’t be scared, you can always come to me for advices like this.”

“And oh, I saw Evelyn leaving the house so early today. What happened?” Naomi asked. “You can’t believe this. But fist, call back Michael. He has to know this too.”

Naomi gestured to Michael and he hurried back.

“Emily wants to tell us why Evelyn left the house early today.” They listened to her as she started talking.

“Your Mum… sorry I mean Evelyn is hiding a very terrible mistake. I wasn’t spying on her but yesterday she left her phone in the living room after she Ranted on me. She left the house in a hurry and after some minutes, I was hungry and decided to go find something to eat in the kitchen.”

“When I came down, her phone was ringing and something pushed me to answer it. Her friend said the rest result was out. I was curious to know the type of test she did and I asked the friend. Lady and Gentleman, Evelyn is pregnant.”

“She’s what!” They exclaimed. “Yes, she’s pregnant. She lied to Grandma and Harry yesterday that her friend’s daughter who is in another city is getting married and they’ll be spending a week there. But the real thing here is, she’s going to terminate the pregnancy,” Emily explained.

“Oh my God, that woman. Can’t she at least be pious for once in her life? Oh God!” Michael shook his head. “It’s a shame to even call her our Mum. I hate her,” Naomi sighed.

“I hate her the most. Thank you for telling us this piece of information, Emily. I can never forgive that woman.” Naomi was getting so angry.

“I’m so sorry you two are going through this,” she sighed. “It’s okay, that’s our faith. But don’t worry, everything will be fine when we are out of here.”

“I’ll see to it that you two are out of here. I’ll get going now, see you later.” She went back to the apartment with full confidence to face Harry.

“Where have you been? Jeff woke up and was crying.” A maid said to her immediately she came in. “Where’s he?” she asked. “With Grandma.” Emily went to Grandma’s room. She was giving Jeff baby milk.

“Emily, my mind isn’t at rest,” Grandma said as she closed the door. “What’s disturbing you, Grandma?” Emily sat on the bed beside her.

“Emily, I feel like Evelyn is up to something. Something which has to do with her life. I don’t know, but I dreamt she lost her life while terminating a pregnancy. Emily, is she pregnant?”

Emily was shocked, she didn’t know if she should tell her what was going on or not. She was also scared that Evelyn might lost her life in the process. But how would she tell Grandma? She was scared.

“Emily, do you know something which I don’t know?” Grandma interrupted her thought. “N… no Grandma,” Emily said.

Deep inside her heart, she wasn’t pleased with what she said to Grandma. She wished she had just tell her the truth but she didn’t want to hurt the fragile heart of the old woman.

“I don’t know why I still don’t trust Evelyn. Emily, can I tell you a secret?” Grandma asked. Emily nodded her head, it would be rude to tell her no and at least, she would be hearing a secret from Grandma.

“It’s about Evelyn. Do you know why I still don’t trust her up to date?” she sighed. “When Evelyn’s sister got married, Evelyn was 19. She moved in with her sister, I opposed that but her sister wanted Evelyn to go live with her even for some months.”

“Just two months of staying there, her sister caught her red handed with her husband. What do you expect Evelyn to do?” she asked Emily “Apologize,” Emily said.

“Good, but Evelyn chose to be stubborn. And instead of her sister to tell me what was happening, she kept it as a secret thinking Evelyn won’t do that again. But as time goes on, she discovered they met at hotels and worst of it, her matrimonial bed.” Grandma wiped her tears.

“I was deeply hurt when I found out about it. Evelyn didn’t apologize to her sister again. I took her mum and it occurred to me that she was pregnant. She left home again, she didn’t return until a year later. She wasn’t with any child and she wasn’t pregnant.”

“When I asked her about it, she told me she got rid of it because she can’t keep a bastard. I left her alone and one day, she told me she would be going back to school. She left home for the second time and went to stay with her cousin whose house was closer to the school she was attending.” Grandma paused. She looked at Emily

“She repeated what she did to her sister with her cousin’s husband. But when she went to remove the pregnancy, she nearly lost her life. Her sister didn’t help, her cousin didn’t help, no one helped us and we didn’t have money.”

“While she was battling with her life on the hospital bed, a young man came and helped. He was the one that married her at last. That man is Harry’s Dad. He fell in love with her even when he learnt about her past from me. He still went ahead to marry her.”

“God! Oh my God.” Emily shook her head. She couldn’t believe Evelyn killed the same man that helped save her life. “You see why I still don’t trust her? That is why I chose to stay here with her and keep an eye on her. I’m getting old and I’m afraid she’s back to her last life.” She sobbed.
