The President's Daring Wife
Chapter 101: What You Need…
Chapter 103
“Eve, please c–calm down. Your babies must not be far,” Elena tried to coax her as Eve sat on the bed the next morning, bawling her eyes out.
Ethan had ransacked the whole hospital last night. They’d even alerted the authorities, and all the staff that worked in the nursery were investigated, but… Her babies were nowhere to be found, they were still missing. And the surveillance cameras caught nothing. Everywhere was dark.
“Eve.” The Stewardess rubbed her shoulders. “Please don’t cry, it can affect your health. Even if that person is cruel enough to kidnap the babies, I don’t think they’ll have the heart to hurt them.”
Hurt her babies? Eve cried harder. “That is what I’m scared of, Elena. What if they harm my babies!?”
“Shhhh, it’s okay.” Elena hugged her and patted her back. “Don’t cry, Eve. Let’s keep praying. Nothing will happen to the babies, the Young Master is out there with the authorities searching for them.”
“M–My babies.” Eve’s lips trembled and she sniffed rapidly. “My poor Mimi, Eric, Evan. Who is that cruel person, Elena?”
“The authorities will find them, stop crying.”
The door opened and Ethan’s grandfather came in with Matt. The old man seemed to have aged a decade more in one night. Unable to say anything, he limped with his cane and sank on the couch.
“Sister-in-law, this Young Master has failed you.” Matt approached her and hung his head. “I promised to protect the babies and this happened. If I don’t bring them back before tomorrow, I’ll forever hide my face and become a monk.”
He clenched his fists then turned around and strode out of the ward.
Eve’s eyes lingered on the door and she sniffed rapidly. “My heart wants to rip out, Elena. I just want my babies.”
“They’ll come back,” Elena reassured her and sighed heavily.
“My babies must be hungry. I can feel it.”
“I don’t think they’ll have the heart to let them starve, Eve. Please have faith.”
Eve shook her head, sobbing silently. A few moments later, the room vibrated with the ringing sound of her phone and she picked it up and answered it.
“Did you find my babies!?” She asked. There was silence from the other end and she frowned then glanced at the strange number.
“H–Hello…”
“If you want your babies, there’s one thing you must do, Eve.” The voice that came from the other end made her heart stop beating for a second.
Eve covered her mouth and gasped. “M–Mr. Hudson, please I beg of you. Don’t do anything to my babies.”
At that moment, Ethan entered the room with a haggard look. Matt was also behind him. And their expressions told her that the search was futile.
“M–Mr. Hudson…” Eve trailed off. “Please say whatever you want. D–Don’t harm my babies.”
Ethan’s expression changed as well as everyone else’s in the room. And Eve put the phone on speaker.
“What I want is simple. Tell your husband to hand over the family’s fortune to me, and your babies will be safe.”
“Grandson, don’t do this to my family.” The old man looked up. “Please let go of every bad intention.”
“Who are you to tell me that, Old Man.” Wade raised his voice. “I was merciful enough to spare your life. Be grateful that I didn’t intend to kill you, otherwise, you’ll be history as we’re speaking.”
“If you didn’t intend to kill Grandpa, what was your goal!” Matt yelled. “You should be ashamed for trying to use harmless babies to get what you want. You are stooping too low, Madman.”
“Third Young Master, is that you?” Wade chuckled. “Of course, I’ll answer your question. My goal was to lure your Sister-in-law back from that island. You should learn from me, Little Brother. Am I not smart?”
“Bah! You’re so rotten even devils will run from you. This Young Master doesn’t look up to maniacs!”
“Wade, please don’t harm my babies! Bring them back, please!”
“I’ll be waiting outside the ward, Eve. I give your husband only ten minutes to finish the handover.”
“Ah!– wait!” The man hung up and Eve struggled to breathe properly. “He– He said he’s outside the ward, Ethan.”
Ethan had already brought out his phone, and after making a phone call, he left the room with everyone.
Eve jumped from the bed and rushed after them with Elena. And true to the man’s words, he stood outside the ward in the hallway, leaning against the door of one of the VIP rooms.
“Where are my babies!?” Ethan was about to charge at him and Wade held up his hand.
“You wouldn’t want to try anything funny.” He shook his head, smiling. “Remember your babies are with me, Mr. Anderson. And I get to decide their fate.”
“What exactly do you want.”
“Hand over the company to me and every fortune this family has ever gathered,” Wade replied. “I’m not as heartless as this old man to kick you to the curbs. You can all go and live in that Villa or that stupid island. Apart from that, everything else belongs to me.”
“Leave him to me, Big Bro. This Young Master has made a promise to Sister-in-law and he won’t go back on his words!” Matt rushed forward and grabbed the man’s collar. “Mr. Hudson or whatever you’re called, bring out those babies right now before I break your head.”
“Unhand me, you tiny rat.” Wade only used one hand to push him aside and Matt landed on the floor. “This is not how you treat your older brother.”
“You’re not my brother! Grandpa doesn’t even know you! You’re just trying to steal away what doesn’t belong to you.”
“I don’t have your time.” Wade gave him a careless look then stared at Ethan. “I am waiting, Mr. Anderson. Bring out your phone and do the handover. In the next ten minutes, I can’t guarantee you your babies’ wellbeing.”
“You want me to hand over the company to you?” Ethan glared at him. “You can keep dreaming._
“So be it—” Before Wade finished speaking, hard footsteps came from every direction, and in the next minute, several police staff surrounded them, pointing their guns at him.
“Now I give you ten seconds to bring the babies out,” Ethan said darkly.
“Hehe.” Wade chuckled, his eyes wandering to the police. “So this is how you want to play it. You think getting the authorities will faze me? If I could come here unharmed, you should have been more prepared than this.”
The appearance of the policemen didn’t bring any ease to Eve’s heart. Staring at Wade’s expression, her apprehension only increased.
“You can have me arrested and sent to jail.” Wade went on. “But I promise you, you’ll never set eyes on those babies. Ever.”
“We shall see about that—” Eve stepped forward and Ethan paused in his words. “Eve, don’t go near him.”
Eve didn’t listen and she stopped in front of Wade.
“I can snap your neck, Eve.” The man gave her a dangerous look. “I don’t care about these police.”
“But you won’t do that.” Eve stared into his eyes. “You can’t also harm my babies, Wade.”
“What made you think that?” Wade smirked. “Is it because I told you that I care about you?”
“No.” Eve shook her head, her fingers trembled and she curled them around her dress. “It is because you care about this family.”
“Don’t dare me, Evelyn.”
“I believe you, Wade. I believe that you have been given a second chance. But you don’t know what you want… I do.”
“And what do you think I want?” His smile faltered, his expression turning dark. “Mrs. Anderson, I don’t have time for this nonsense.”
“I know what you want, Wade,” Eve said softly. “You regretted what you did, but it wasn’t only because you included me in your mission. It was your action toward this family that you regretted, but you don’t even know.”
“Evelyn—”
“Look inside you, Wade. Listen to your heart. You weren’t happy even after getting what you want in the past. Don’t you think the heavens gave you this second chance for redemption?”
“Shut up!” He glared at her and snatched a gun from one of the police then pointed it to her forehead.
“Sister-in-law!”
“Eve!”
Both Ethan and his brother exclaimed.
“I beg of you to please stop this, Grandson!” The old man held his heart and cried. “I made a mistake by letting go of your father, these people didn’t do you any wrong. You can get back at me if you want, but please bring those children out.”
“Wade.” Eve swallowed hard, maintaining his gaze. “We are your family, see. Your grandfather is here. Ethan and Matt are your brothers. I’m your brother’s wife, and those babies are your nephews and niece.”
“Evelyn, shut up.” Wade’s eyes turned red as he glared hard at her. “I swear I’ll pull the trigger and I won’t regret it.”
“Wade, where is your father?”
“I said shut up!?”
“Where is your mother, Wade?”
“Evelyn!”
Eve’s hand shook as she brought them up hesitantly. Then she gently wrapped her fingers around the gun. “You got wealth in the past and you weren’t happy. Can’t you see that you’re a victim of a grudge? What you need is happiness, and you can find it nowhere else apart from your family.”
“I don’t have a family!” Wade shouted, his hand shaking.
“But we’re your family.” Eve slowly pulled the gun down. “We are always your family, Wade. Nothing can change that.” She extricated the gun from his fingers and dropped it.
“Wade, come back to us. You have a good heart. If not, the heavens wouldn’t have given you a second chance.”
“But I don’t have a family,” The man dropped to his knees and said weakly. “How daring of you, Evelyn. I know what you’re trying to do.”
“I’m not trying to do anything stupid.” Eve knelt in front of him. “We won’t let the police take you away, Wade. We just want you to come back.”
“I don’t belong here.”
“Where is your father, Wade?” Eve asked softly. “Where is your mother?”
A tear dropped from his eyes and he shook his head. “Dad gambled. Suicide… And Mum was sick… She passed away.”
“Wade…” Eve wiped her tears.
“Do you know how hard I worked, Evelyn? I worked hard for many years to come to this city. To get my revenge.”
“Everything that is yours is here.” Eve took his hands and gave them a gentle squeeze. “I’m so sorry about your parents… We’re all sorry.” She glanced over her shoulder and looked at Matt and Ethan before returning her eyes to him. “But whatever you do will not change what has happened. Why stay in the past when you have a bright future ahead?”
“I don’t have a future.”
“Yes, you do, Grandson.” The old man dropped his cane and pulled him up. “You have your future here with us as your family. Please let me make it up to you. Forgive this Old Man for not being competent enough to care for his own family.”
“Eve is right, Brother.” Ethan pulled her up and faced Wade. “We can’t change the past, but we have the power on deciding our future.”
“You can bring Sister-in-law’s babies out now, Big Brother.” Matt pulled him away from the old man and hugged him. “Not everyone gets a hug from this Young Master. You can consider this a blessing and release the babies, right?”
“Wade.” Eve stepped forward with Ethan. “Can you please let things go now? We all want you to come back.”
“You gave me no choice, Evelyn.” Wade chuckled and ruffled up Matt’s hair. “This Young Master is holding me too tight. If I don’t say yes, I’m afraid he’ll squeeze me to death.”
Matt pulled away and Eve laughed then hugged him. “Please call me, Eve. What should I call you? Big brother?”
“Just call me Wade.” Wade patted her hair then pulled Ethan and hugged him.
“Can I also call you that?” Matt asked as he brushed his air.
“You don’t stand a chance. If you call me by my name, I’ll break your head, Little Bro. And you.” He looked at Ethan. “Just call me brother, Mr. Anderson.”
“No problem.” Ethan smiled and held Eve’s waist.
“This Old Man is the happiest man on this planet.” The old man wiped his tears. “Thank you, all, everyone. Especially you, Evelyn. How about a big family hug?”
“Not yet.” Wade shook his head and glanced at the opposite door. “You can come out, Emily.”
After saying that, the door opened and a beautiful lady stepped out, wheeling the babies in a long crib.
“Ah, my babies.” Eve pushed Ethan aside and hurried to the crib. The babies were fast asleep.
“I took good care of them, Mrs. Anderson. Please don’t worry,” the lady reassured her.
“Who is she?” Eve’s eyes went to Wade.
“Emily is my wife,” Wade replied and urged her forward. “Now we can have a family hug.”
Eve left the babies alone and Elena wheeled them away. She joined the hugging company, smiling brightly. And after pulling away, she took the lady’s hand. “Please call me, Eve. And welcome to the family.”
“Thank you, Eve.” Emily smiled. “I’m glad that my husband has finally come around.”
The policemen had long dropped their guns and they all clapped in unison.
“Congratulations to the Anderson family.”
“Mrs. Anderson is truly commendable. You have an awesome granddaughter-in-law.”
“I have two awesome granddaughters-in-law.” The old man chuckled. “Now there are two Mrs. Andersons in the house.”
“Grandpa is right. This Young Master can finally be free from Sister-in-law’s scrutiny since she now has someone to hang out with.”
“No, Matt.” Eve shook her head. “You now have two Big Sisters to watch over you. You can forget about getting into any trouble, right, Emily?”
“You’re right, Eve.” Emily squeezed her hand and giggled. “I’ve always wanted a cute little brother, anyways.”
