Chapter 7 Make Connections
~
Her Mummy!
Where did this little girl come from?
Where were her parents?
She clung onto him like a koala, calling him foreign names he'd never heard of.
Her Daddy.
What the hell…
“You'd better follow me to my Mummy right now,” the little girl added, her strength surprising Clyde as she pulled his legs.
How funny!
“Come on, Daddy-”
“No!” Clyde repeated. “I'm not your father.”
Then he noticed the stains on his pants.
The little girl's hands must have come in contact with sand before she approached him.
Sighting the dust on his pants, Clyde's frustration turned into annoyance.
He moved his leg, shaking her off in the process.
“Ouch!” The little girl landed butt-first on the sand.
Shocked for a second, her eyes were wide before they watered up, gathering a pool of tears.
She sniffled rapidly before her loud wails echoed in the area.
Clyde's demeanor wavered, a guilty feeling kicking in.
At the sight of the little girl crying, something tugged at his heartstrings.
Strange!
He picked her up, dusting off her dress. “I'm sorry.”
“Bad- Bad Daddy!” But she wailed louder, fisting her tiny hands and hitting him on the chest. “I'll tell Mummy you're a meanie!”
She jumped down from his arm and ran off in the opposite direction.
Watching her little figure disappear into the tall building, Clyde stood there for a few seconds, lost in a trance.
Weirdest kid he'd ever met.
Where did she come from?
Why did he feel bad when he shook her off?
Strange!
Staring at his suit jacket also stained with dust, Clyde cursed under his breath.
It was as if insects were prickling under his skin.
He needed to change.
The sight of the stains alone irritated him.
No longer was he mad at the kid. Her parents were at fault for letting such a little girl wander alone on this vast Island.
Clyde turned around, returning to the inn which housed all the guests.
He entered his bedroom, glancing at his wristwatch.
It was almost time for the engagement.
If that kid hadn't interrupted, he'd be with the others already.
Clyde headed straight to the closet and changed out of his clothes.
He was buttoning up the new shirt he wore when the door to the bathroom opened.
“Oh, Clyde… you're back so early.” Wrapped in a mini towel, Cora sauntered out of the bathroom, circling him.
She stopped in front of him, throwing her arms around his neck and leaning in for a kiss. “Came back for me?”
Clyde turned the other side, his back facing her.
Yet, she circled him again. “Come on, who got on your nerves?”
“Stay off.” Clyde pushed her aside and she landed on the bed.
As he finished doing his shirt's button, he wore the cufflinks and grabbed the new suit's jacket.
Cora watched him, confusion swirling in her eyes. “I thought we were here for a vacation-”
“What vacation?” Clyde scoffed.
If he didn't get the chairman position, he'd only ever dream about enjoyment.
Because his grandfather might even demote him to a COO or something worse.
Every day, his grandfather's attitude towards him got worse and worse.
Ever since Violet disappeared, Clyde's grandfather blamed him.
The old man would no longer even stand his sight,
Talk more of giving him a chance to aspire to be the next chairman!
Violet!
Thinking about her always made Clyde's blood boil.
If it wasn't for her, he would be CJ Group's chairman right now.
She just had to spoil his plans by disappearing from his life!
“Oh, Clyde… relax.” Cora rested on the bed, posing a seductive gesture. “No one's gonna compete with you for the chairman's position.”
No one but his Uncle.
Hadn't the man been more than ambitious for the past few years?
Clyde wouldn't bait on any chance.
“You're making this look more like a business trip when we're only here for Asher's engagement,” Cora complained.
“Get dressed.” Clyde grabbed a wristwatch. “The engagement is in a few minutes.”
If Clyde wasn't desperate, he wouldn't even come.
An old friend he'd long forgotten since high school.
But he had to make connections with other powerful businessmen if he wanted to take over the CJ Group without his grandfather's support.
That little girl…
Hopefully, he wouldn't bump into her.
