Chapter 22.

“How did it go?”

Fredrick asked the moment he returned home.

I handed over the result to him and he went through it.

“Yes, the doctor told me the same thing here.”

Really?

Thank goodness he found no fault in me.

If he had found out about the pills, I am sure he would have informed Frederick about it.

Phew.

And what else did he tell him?

I hope he didn't suggest to him what he suggested to me.

“It's a good thing you have no fault.”

He smiled at me.

“I know my little dove is healthy. Your uterus is just taking a rest and preparing to hold our bundle of joy.”

He chuckled softly.

“Or should I say bundles of joy?”

Pfft.

Quit dreaming, dude.

None of that is going to happen.

TWO DAYS LATER

I was woken up from my nap by the noises outside the room.

It can't be Fredrick because he traveled out of the city in the morning,

And it can't be the servants too,

They don't speak loudly in the house.

Who then could it be?

I stepped down from the bed and left the room to check who was making that noise.

And when I opened the door, Jessy and Harris were kissing in the living room.

What da!

My jaw dropped.

What on earth is this nonsense?

I felt like throwing a stone at them so they would depart from each other and stop that nonsense they were doing.

Jessy was the first to notice my presence, and so, she tapped Harris and he stopped kissing her.

“Hello, mother-in-law.”

Jessy waved her fingers, smiling.

“Hey, bitch, you are still in this house?”

What nonsense!

“Excuse me?”

I stepped out of the room and closed the door.

“You heard me right, bitch.”

I heard it the first time he said it, I just wanted him to repeat it.

“We thought you would have left this house after we went on a vacation. But here you are, eating the forbidden fruit.”

Jessy smirked.

“Take a look at her, baby, she is getting old.”

Harris laughed.

I was forced to look at myself in the mirror standing by the corner, but I don't look as old as they said.

I even look younger, and my skin is glowing, unlike Jessy who looks like she is 25.

I couldn't just keep quiet and allow them to insult me, so I retaliated.

“Did you guys drink something that made you both lose your senses?”

They exchanged glances.

“I see no reason why you would talk to me that way if you are in your senses. Now tell me,”

I turned to Harris.

“I know the estate is doing good and you are earning from it already. Is the money too much for you that it has affected your brain?”

He frowned.

“Are you insulting me now?”

He pointed at his chest angrily.

“Of course, clown.”

Hahahaha.

“Clown?”

He repeated and I nodded my head.

“Yes, clown. You know what? You guys should go in and have some rest, we have a lot to talk about later.”

I opened the door and returned to the room before they could say anything.

Calling him a clown must have hit him so hard because he was so upset.

“We should teach her a lesson, babe.”

I heard Jessy say to him.

Well,

Let's see who will teach each other a lesson in this house.

At the dining table during dinner, Jessy kept glancing at me and anytime our eyes met, she would grin and look away.

That went on for quite some time until Harris broke the silence.

“Dad, I have some good news to share with you.”

What good news?

What he said piqued Frederick’s attention and he stopped eating.

“My wife and I are in a good mood, Dad…”

“Speak or remain silent.”

Fredrick said, picking up his fork.

“We are expecting a baby.”

What!

Impossible!

Fredrick must have felt the kind of shock I felt because he froze and the fork fell on the plate.

He looked at me shockingly,

Then he frowned and stood up from the chair.

He gave Harris and Jessy one last look and walked away.

“What is wrong with him?”

Jessy scoffed.

“Perhaps he is jealous.”

Harris sneered.

“Jealous? Why? When does a father become jealous because his son’s wife got pregnant?”

“Well, you saw it, babe.”

Harris is out of his mind.

“He is your dad, show some respect, Harris.”

I snapped at him.

They both burst into laughter as if I had said something funny.

“What? Are you also jealous that I got pregnant before you?”

Seriously?

Why should I be jealous?

“Yes, she is, baby.”

Harris said.

“Don't you know that she has been waiting for the day that she would conceive for Dad?”

Silly,

If only he knew I had been the one avoiding it.

“Don't get too excited, you guys will soon split up.”

I wiped my mouth with a tissue and stood up.

“According to your imagination, right?”

Harris asked and laughed.

“For your information, Jessy and I are bound to fall in love together. We will never split apart, and no one can come between us.”

Dream on, boy,

Just wait for it.

“And the estate?”

He got up from the chair too.

“It is never leaving my hands…”

I didn't wait for him to finish what he was saying before leaving.

Fredrick left angrily so,

If I don't return to the room in time, he will think I am celebrating with those fools.

“Jessy is pregnant? Is that for real?”

He asked me as I stepped inside the room.

Fredrick looked so restless and he was pacing up and down in the room.

What is the problem?

Why does he look this worried?

“Yes, that is what they said.”

He sighed deeply, paused, and turned to me.

“Blair, we need to do something about this.”

Uhn?

Something like what?

What does he mean by that?

I was so confused,

But I couldn't ask him.

He stepped forward, placed his hands on my shoulders, and lowered his neck until he was looking into my eyes.

“Let’s make a baby, or babies.”
