Return of the Alpha Heiress
Chapter 53: The Tragedy She Will Never Forgive
Chapter 54
Aria’s POV
When I thought I would get a good rest the next day, the news about Alissa’s return reached me. I hurried up, got out of the house on time, and headed to the company thinking she would be there.
But she wasn’t; the employees didn’t even know she had been rescued and returned to the pack. That took me by surprise. The secretary didn’t tell me she wasn’t at the company, he sounded as though Alissa was waiting for me over there.
“She isn’t here,”
He said when I summoned him to my office. What was more surprising was the fact that he didn’t even know where she was.
“I only heard from someone that they saw her being transferred to her apartment.”
Apparently, it was just rumors. He didn’t even know the truth of the situation.
“So you are telling me that you didn’t see her face to face.”
“No…”
That really pissed me off.
“I am so sorry, Alpha Aria, I just wanted to be the first person to tell you Alissa is…”
I raised my hand, stopping him from proceeding. He just wasted my time coming down to the company when my body was still weak from the shifting. I needed so much rest yet he deprived me of that.
“Please do not punish me, I will…”
I stopped him again, picked up my bag, and left the office. Noticing he was following me, I paused and asked him the most important question.
“Did you or anyone inform her parents about this?”
“No, Alpha Aria. But if you permit me, then I will do that as soon as possible.”
With what he said, I just concluded that he was a dumb jerk. It wasn’t like Alissa was back. Why should I give him the go-ahead to visit her family and raise their hopes over what we weren’t sure of?
The way I eyed him made him understand that he had done a terrible thing and he started apologizing again.
“Just get out of my sight.”
I left the company annoyed, blaming myself for believing him. Hadn’t Kael already told me that Alissa would come back in one piece? I should have just waited for him to inform me if she was back or not.
As soon as the car drove inside the mansion, my eyes caught Kael, hurrying towards the parking lot. He wasn’t his best self, he looked like something terrible had happened that needed his attention.
“Good that you are here.”
He said, the moment he saw me.
“What is happening?”
“Elias just called…”
The way he sighed and shook his head sent me the message clearly: something terrible had really happened.
“Alissa is back…”
So it was true, the rumors weren’t false after all. But if she was back, why would Elias be the one to call Kael?
“Is she…”
“Goodness no.”
I sighed in relief knowing it wasn’t what I was thinking.
“But we need to go to the hospital to see if everything is alright.”
Kael and I left the mansion in his car, my mind reading negative thoughts. Alissa must never die, no, nothing must happen to her. And if anything happens, the Redmoon pack will pay for crossing my turf.
When we arrived at Elias’ hospital, he was at the reception talking to a nurse. Desperate to know Alissa’s fate, I didn’t even pay attention to the people greeting us.
“How is she?”
He sighed, shook his head, and held my hand.
“She is in a critical condition, Aria. Come with me.”
He turned towards his office but that wasn’t necessary at that moment. I just wanted to see Alissa, to know what condition she was in.
“Can you take me to her instead?”
Elias didn’t oppose. He took me to one of the VIP rooms on the fifth floor, not because she was one of the elite, but because she was the Alpha leader’s assistant.
Upon seeing Alissa, tears welled up in my eyes. She looked so terrible like she was involved in the highest level of torture.
“Alpha Aria?”
She started crying, trying to sit upright. But she couldn’t, she was in great pain because her voice was so frail.
I hurried to her, held her hand, and sat on the bed. Seeing Alissa that way, I couldn’t control my tears and I let them fall freely.
“Who did this to you?”
“Run, Alpha Aria, they are coming after you.”
Her eyes snapped wide and she started beating so fast. I got up, wanting to run outside to get help, but she grabbed my hand.
“They are after you, Aria, please run. This time, you won’t be able to escape from it.”
Alissa was warning me. But how would I run away from my pack and leave the people I rule behind? That was impossible.
“Who did this to you?”
She didn’t say a word, like she was scared to mention a name.
“The Supreme Alpha’s…”
She started coughing so hard, then suddenly started to tremble.
“Speak to me, Alissa. The Supreme Alpha’s what?”
‘Aria?’
Liza called but I instantly blocked communication with her. She was going to distract me from hearing what Alissa was trying to tell me.
“Speak to me.”
I held her shoulders and bent my head, my ear closer to her lips.
“I…warned…she…n…”
Alissa stopped talking, she stopped coughing, and her chest stopped moving. I called her name multiple times but got no response from her. Her eyes were wide open, even her lips were parted like she was trying to say something.
“Elias?”
I stepped aside when they entered the room.
“Alissa isn’t… her eyes…”
I pointed at her, my fingers trembling.
He unrolled the stethoscope around his neck, placed the diaphragm on her chest, and did other things that I had no idea about. Then shockingly, he looked at me, shook his head, and exhaled deeply.
“Alissa is dead.”
Those words hit me in my chest like a dagger. Alissa was dead? No way!
“You’ve got to check her very well, Elias, she can’t be dead. No, she has to tell me the people that tortured her…”
“Calm down, sis,”
Both Kael and Elias held my hand each.
“Get a hold of yourself, an Alpha leader must never show her weakness.”
As her face was covered with the bedsheet, anger swelled in my chest like a balloon filled with litres of water—ready to explode at any moment.
The redmoon pack dared to kill my pack member, the one always at my side just to instill fear in me. But they were wrong, they had just dug their own graves and they would pay for it.
Me, run away from my pack because of those rogues? Never!
And whoever had a hand in Alissa’s death, no matter the rank they held in the kingdom, they would rot in my hand!
