Chapter 79: The Secret Behind Our Parents’ Deaths

Aria’s POV

I didn’t waste time staying in the pack that day; I left headquarters immediately because the way Nina spoke didn’t show any sign of a lie.

On my way over there, I texted Jace that I was on the road but didn’t tell him what was taking me to the city.

When I arrived a few hours later, Jace had just stepped out of the meeting hall, and chaos had broken out. I didn’t need to be told what had happened because Jace already told me in his message the previous night that he was going to strip those Alphas of their title.

“You are here, let’s go.”

He held my hand, his expression blank as he took me down the stairs.

“What’s happening?”

Even though I tried to engage him in a conversation, Jace didn’t give in. He kept walking, dragging me behind him until we were out of the company. Then he released my wrist and sighed deeply before speaking.

“What brought you here?”

“Well, I would like for you to tell me what happened there but you don’t look like you want to say anything about it so, I came to request something from you.”

Hearing that, his face brightened up a bit and he held my hand again.

“What is it, Aria? Spill it out and I won’t hesitate to do it for you.”

I looked around, making sure the environment was people free and when he noticed what I was doing, Jace interrupted me.

“Let’s go inside.”

I followed him back to the company but this time, he took me straight to his office, ignoring some of the Alphas who were trying to engage him in a talk. Among them, I saw Gregory, standing at the far end of the hallway, clicking his phone. Seeing him in that state brought coolness to my heart. Finally, he was stripped of his Alpha title and everyone in the Silvermoon and Moonclaw pack would be free of his cruelty.

However, I had wanted to be the one to strip him of that title to take revenge on him. Nevertheless, Jace had done a great job that only he was capable of doing.

Before I could look away, Gregory’s eyes caught mine and I gave him a mischievous grin. He understood the message but only looked away in shame.

“So what was it that brought you?”

He asked, offering me a place to sit.

“To find the secret behind our parents’ deaths.”

His face flashed in anticipation.

“Here? How?”

“Nina told me everything I needed to know. She said when I come here, I should go to the study room in your mansion, the place you grew up in and…”

“Say no more, Aria. We need to go now.”

“You aren’t even scared that…”

“Scared of what?”

He scoffed.

“The only thing I am scared of right now is losing you.”

Jace took me to the mansion, which had become so quiet as there was no one left in it. Jace was kind enough to exile his uncle and his entire family from the city after they tried to attack him again. So he took me to the study room and helped me find the envelope that Nina had mentioned.

After a few minutes of looking for it in the right direction, we finally found it.

“What’s in there?”

I asked Jace, my eyes fixed on him as I walked towards him. He was so engrossed in reading the letter inside the envelope since he was the one who found it, and the expression on his face was blank.

“This letter was written by my parents,”

He said, handing it over to me with trembling hands.

“To your parents.”

He said the last word and sat down on the chair, supporting his head. I didn’t hesitate to check out what was written in there that had made Jace act that way. And when I did, I was as shocked as him.

Inside there, his parents had written to my parents that when their son came of age and they were fortunate to have a daughter, they should please allow Jace to marry me because that was the only way to save Jace’s life. At the end of the letter, they mentioned that they were in trouble and if anything happened to them, his brother and the king should be the first suspects.

I looked up from the letter, looking at Jace whose head was bowed and supported with his hand. He was heartbroken that his parents’ deaths were caused by his father’s trusted brother and the king who should be protecting his people.

“What do we do now?”

I squatted in front of him and asked. Jace looked up, wiped off the tears in his eyes, and forced a smile, dangerous enough to show he was ready for revenge.

“I will bring the king down.”

He got on his feet.

“No, we must bring the king down. I have this feeling that he is behind my parents’ death too.”

And we left the city that day for the King’s mansion. Surprisingly, Jace’s uncle and his family were all in the mansion when we arrived, and the moment they saw us, his uncle started acting the same way he did when he first saw me.

“Where is the king?!”

Jace thundered, making his way to the king’s chamber. Apparently, that wasn’t the first time he was going there because he went directly to the king’s chamber and no one tried to stop him. Oh, he is the Supreme Alpha.

“Jace?”

An old man with a long grey beard called weakly, lying on the bed. The moment his eyes darted in my direction, his pupils enlarged and his hands started trembling.

“Y…you…you are alive?”

That was it! The last clue I was waiting for.

“Speak whatever you know!”

Jace pulled out a gun and pressed it to his head.

Instantly, he started pleading for mercy and started spilling out the whole truth.

Turns out they found out that my mum and dad had a connection with the goddess and only their daughter could possess the strength to bring down the king and they used that opportunity to kill my parents after I was born and even stole and injected me with silver to stop me from wolfing out.

According to the king, they thought I had died, not knowing I was still alive, passing through hell in Gregory’s hands.

“If you and Jace ended up together, his uncle and I will not last a day on the throne. Jace, forgive me for…”

Overpowered by anger, Jace pulled the trigger and shot him. And no, not only Jace, I was hiding a gun too and the moment my anger took control of me, I pulled the trigger at the same time as Jace and shot the king too.

After all, he was the one trying to come between the man I love. He killed our parents and also injected me with silver.
