Chapter 28 (A FRIEND IN YOU)

The girl chuckled, she picked up her bucket and left Naomi’s side. She watched Michael and Emily laughed as they spoke. He looked so happy with her.

“I’ll tell you some other time.” He threw the clothe he washed in a bucket. “Hey, I just told you mine. Tell me yours.” Emily smiled. “I’ll tell you someday.”

They washed and rinsed the remaining dresses together. Michael picked the two buckets and the two basins and they went back to the Quarters chattering on their way.

From that day forward, Emily and Michael became very close. They became best friends that others thought Emily was dating a little boy.

Naomi on the other hand was so mad at Michael, she tried all she could to stop him from going around with Emily but he didn’t listen to her.

One day on a Wednesday evening, Emily went out of the Quarters to go check the flower she planted earlier. But as soon as she went out, she saw Michael very far away staring at something. His back was turned to her.

“Michael.” She called his name but he didn’t hear her. “What is he doing there?” she wondered. She decided to go check out what he was doing there. Michael was staring at Harry’s Mum who was speaking to her guest in front of the apartment.

“What are you doing here?” she asked him but he didn’t even look at Emily. “Michael.” She tapped his arm. “Let’s go,” she said but he didn’t move. She followed the direction of his eyes and they fell on Harry’s Mum. Her guest has left and as she turned to go back inside, she saw Michael and Emily.

She was so shocked to see Emily there after all the warnings she gave her. But one thing wasn’t right, she forgot to give her one instruction. She forgot to tell her not to mingle with any of the Servants.

“The witch!” Emily said under her breath. She has grown so much hatred for Harry’s Mum after what they did to her. It has already been a month but she didn’t see Jeff.

“You also think she’s a witch right?” Michael turned to her. “Yes, she’s heartless.” She bit here lip. Emily looked at Michael’s hand and it was clenched. “Michael are…”

“Michael!” Emily tightened her eyes. “Naomi what…” Naomi grabbed Michael’s hand. “Why did you bring him here?” she asked Emily angrily. “I didn’t, I met him here.” She defended herself.

“Lies, you brought him here.” Naomi looked at the apartment where Harry’s Mum was standing but she wasn’t there again. “Let’s go,” she said go Michael and they walked away leaving Emily there.

“This isn’t right. I have a feeling this woman did something to them,” she nodded her head. “But why is Naomi bossing Michael, is she in love with him? They look the same age. Maybe she likes him and hates seeing him with me,” she sighed and shrugged her shoulder.

“Let’s go check out my plants.” She went to the garden but found out the flower she planted wasn’t there again. “What da! Naomi!” she screamed. “This girl have gone so far and I will put her in her place today. I’m not her mate, I’m older than her.” She left the garden in ager.

“I’ll teach her a lesson she will never forget ever in her life again!” Emily stomped away with her fist clenched so hard.

As she left the garden, she saw someone sitting at the back of the Quarters. The person’s head was buried in between his knees. Emily wondered who that could be, it was already dark and so she couldn’t see the face.

“Is that Naomi? Good!” She went there looking so angry. “Naomi you…” Michael raised up his head. His face was wet with tears. “Michael?” She was confused. “What happened? What did Naomi say to you?” She was surprised to see Michael sobbing outside, alone in the dark.

“Emily.” He stood on his feet and hugged her. “What’s wrong?” She was so confused. “I’m hurt, my heart aches,” he cried out. “My God!” she exclaimed. “Come sit.” She held his hand and they sat down on a block bench.

“What happened? Tell me please,” she said worriedly. “Is it Naomi?” she asked him and he nodded his head. “What did she say to you? Tell me now and I’ll go out some senses in to her head. How can she make my friend cry, she will tell me the reason why she did that and…”

“She’s my sister.” Emily paused, she thought she didn’t hear him right. “I didn’t hear what you said.” She said and he cleaned his face. “Naomi is my sister, we are twins.” She was so shocked that she nearly choked.

“You are pulling my legs right?” Emily started laughing but saw the seriousness on his face. “What da!” she exclaimed. “Naomi is your twin sister? Wow! That explains it,” she nodded her head.

“But why doesn’t she want you to come close to me? I mean, she doesn’t hang around with you.” Emily was surprised. “Because she’s not in a good term with you,” he smiled. “Whoa!” She shook her head.

“Are you hungry?” she asked him and he nodded his head. “Yes,” he said. “Alright, wait for me here. I’ll be right back.” She stood up and hurried away. Michael wondered where she was going to get food for him to eat not until he saw her coming back holding a clothe to her chest.

“Here.” She sat down and brought out two bags of cookies and two can of soda. “Where did you get these?” he asked Surprisingly. “It’s my little secret,” she whispered to him. “You stole this?”
