Chapter 96 (THE BEGINNING)

“Let’s go, I’m ready.” They left the room and went out of the house leaving Jeff with Grandma. Some minutes after Emily and Harry left, Evelyn returned home. Grandma was in the living room when she entered. She was surprised to see Evelyn.

“What happened to you? You’ve lose weight,” Grandma said looking at her Surprisingly. “Come on Mum, can’t you even welcome me home?” Evelyn sat down on the sofa. “Why would I welcome you home? You left and never calls me. I tried calling you, you didn’t pick up my calls and didn’t call back.”

“What brought you back now? I thought you would spend a year there,” Evelyn sighed. “Mum, aren’t you happy to see me? I can go back if you don’t like my staying here.” She rolled her eyes.

“You can go back. After all, you don’t do anything good in this house. All you do is enslave people.” Evelyn shook her head. “Where’s Harry?” she asked. “Didn’t you see him on the way coming back? He went out.”

“Okay. And why is the house so silent? Where’s Jeff?” she asked again standing up from the sofa. “Jeff is sleeping,” Grandma said reading the book in her hand.

Just as Evelyn stood up to go to her room, Naomi came out of the room. At first, she thought she was seeing things until Naomi bit her lower lip and returned back to the room.

“Mum, who is that?” she asked her Mum just to be sure. “Who?” Grandma asked. She didn’t see Naomi came out of the room and the only thing she heard was the door closed.

“The girl that just came out of that room.” She pointed at the room. “Oh, you mean Naomi? She’s part of the Servants in the quarters.”

“What is she doing in here?” Evelyn was shocked. “She undergo a surgery and I brought her back here. Why is your face like that?” Grandma closed the book. “Why would you bring her in to this apartment? You should have left her there, the rest can take care of her.”

“Evelyn, you are so inhuman. How can you say this to me? That girl had a leg surgery. Bone marrow transplant, I would have sent them to their parents but they said their Mum abandoned them and Dad is dead,” she sighed.

“You know what, just go to your room. I’m not ready for your little talks now.” Grandma turned away from her. “Mum we will still talk about this. They can’t stay here, they are just Servants.” She picked up her bag and went to her room.

Evelyn turned the handle but the room was locked. She has forgotten she locked the room the day she left. She brought out the keys from the bag, unlocked it and went inside. She threw the bag on the sofa and kicked off her shoes.

“No!” She ran her hand in her hair. “This can’t be happening. They can’t stay here, not in this house. Why was I so stupid to have left home! Oh God!” She sat on the bed thinking of what to do.

“Emily is behind this, she waited for me to leave the house and brought the kids here. I wonder what else they’ve told Mum. Not now, no one must know who they are. I’m not ready for the shock, I don’t need the kids. I shouldn’t have brought them in to this house. I should have sent them far away from this country.”

“Madam Gloria, I told her to warn Emily to stay away from the kids. She must tell me why she let Mum knew Naomi was sick.” She stood up from the bed. Put on a flip flop and hurried out of the room.

Jeff was crying in Emily’s room but she ignored him and went down the stairs.

“Didn’t you hear Jeff crying?” Grandma asked her. “You can call the maids to attend to him,” she said and hurried out of the apartment. “Where is she going?” She shook her head and called one of the maids to go attend to Jeff.

She stamped to the Quarters but was surprised that she didn’t see even one servant there. She went to the garden too but found no one.

“What’s this?” she went back to the Quarters and found out all the doors were open. She entered and found no one or bags there. “They ran away? No way!” she hurried away and returned back to the apartment.

“Mum!” She called from the door. “Where are the Servants?” she asked. “What’s happening here? I can’t find any Servants and their bags aren’t in the Quarters.”

“Oh that. Harry freed them,” Grandma smiled. “I don’t get it. Harry freed them as how?” Her kegs were already shaking. “He sent them back to their families. You are so cruel, Evelyn. All the money you’ve been taking from Harry saying they were the salary of the servants was all lies. You forced them to work here and keep the money for yourself…”

“Mum, I’m not talking about that.” She cut her off. “Where did they go?” she asked again. “I said Harry sent them back to their families. Got any problem with that?” Grandma was confused.

“Yes Mum, yes. I have problem with that, tons of problems! How could you allow Harry to send them away!” she shouted. Michael who hasn’t seen her came out of the room.

“Why didn’t you stop him!” she yelled. “And why would I stop him? Harry has came back to his senses. You’ve been controlling his life and he has been doing all the things you wanted. Evelyn, Harry isn’t a kid again, let him be. He freed everyone to go back to their families because this is his house. And he got to find out the evil his Mum is doing.”
