Chapter 19: Who Is She!

And most importantly, was he telling the truth? If he was, then she was stupid to have leapt to conclusions. He might really like her and her thoughts were only clouded with not wanting the engagement that she had decided to misjudge everything.

“Brother Cedric…” Her throat tightened and no words could come out of her mouth.

He chuckled from the other end and said, “You don’t have to feel guilty, you only did what was right… Every sane girl would have acted that way… I’m very proud of you.”

Lucy lowered her head and smiled. Her heart swirled with so many emotions that she couldn’t pinpoint but she pushed them all down.

“Brother Cedric,” she said after a while. “Then, will you come again before the engagement?”

“I can’t promise that, My Love. Managing a big company isn’t easy… I don’t think I can really make it,” he said in a sad tone.

“Oh. Okay. Don’t worry, I understand.” Lucy shook her head. “About the wedding?” She asked in anticipation.

“We’ll talk about that later. Then, you can choose any date you like.”

“Really?” Her eyes lit up.

“Of course.” He gave a small laugh. “We’ll speak later. My regards to Uncle and Auntie.”

“Ok, bye.”

Lucy put down the phone, unable to believe what just happened. And Gina kept blinking, also in shock as she had heard their conversation.

“Gina”? She waved her hand in front of the girl, snapping her out of her trance.

Gina shook her head and patted her cheek. “Lucy, Is he saying the truth.”

How was she supposed to know? Lucy chuckled. Even if it was a face to face conversation, she doubt whether she would be able to detect that as she couldn’t read people.

“I don’t know,” she answered truthfully.

Gina sighed and nodded. “Can you trust him?” She asked with worry in her eyes.

“I don’t know.” Lucy looked down at her knees. “It’s too early to decide that.”

“It’s alright, don’t worry.” Gina squeezed her hands. “Let’s hope he’s genuine.”

Cedric put down his phone and chuckled. She was a tough nut after all. Women, they’re full of surprises. However, all they needed was a sweet talk and you’ll have them groveling for you.

He drummed his finger on the wide round table in front of him, his thoughts drifting to last night. Her softness and innocence were just a façade on the outside. Deep inside, he could envision a stubborn woman. And a very stubborn one at that. That was not how he would like things to progress. He had to change his strategy.

“Tsk tsk tsk… You’re a devil,” the guy sitting by his side said with a chuckle. “Now I’m even determined to win this game. You don’t deserve any girl in this world.”

Cedric picked up his card and laughed. “And you think she will deserve someone like you. She’ll soon be my bride, but your only plan is to have fun.”

“Fun is better than deception,” said another guy by his right. “And evil doesn’t pay.”

Now Cedric took his time to laugh heartily while his gaze darted between the twins. “I’m only learning from the masters of treachery.”

George picked another card and stared at it with a frown. “Well, we don’t compel women they come willingly.”

“Yeah.” His brother seconded. “It is heartless to lure them with lies and deceptions.”

“Not when it’ll be an advantage for you and you’ll be the one on the earning scale.” Cedric rolled his eyes while counting the cards in his hands.

The bar downstairs shook with loud music and he yearned so much to get this game over with and go have fun. Only one round remained and he was feeling anxious already. And the guys’ chatters weren’t helping either. He needed to concentrate.

“So greedy.” Greg shook his head in disappointment. “I should have known you’re now completely different. I would have come up with a harder game.”

“Thank you for the compliment.” Cedric gave a soft laugh. “Why do you think I own so many Casinos back in Country V?”

“He’s known as the king of gambling. I just found out a while ago.” George gave him a hard stare.

“That is not something to be proud of,” Greg scoffed.

Cedric knew he was winning and couldn’t be bothered by the guys’ words. He couldn’t care less about whatever they thought of him. He had told them he had evolved, but they didn’t believe him. Vengeance was sweet and he was taking great pleasure from the looks on their faces at the moment.

Even the heavens were with him these days and luck was playing by his side. To him, cards were a piece of cake. Besides, he always had one or two cards up his sleeves.

“Game!” He slapped the last card on the table and exclaimed.

The twins widened their eyes in disbelief but he had already anticipated that and stared at them with a triumphant smile. If they had come up with another game, they would have had a chance. Even so, he wasn’t a fool to let them know.

“Very well then.” George sighed, disappointed. “The deal is yours.”

“And the girl.” Greg waved his hand. “She’s already dealing with a lot. We’re no more interested.”

“Believe me, you wouldn’t want to get involved with her.” Cedric felt like he should boast at that last moment. His heart was already swelling with excitement. “You wouldn’t even try to.”

“Not in this city.”

The twins snickered.

“Go blow your horn somewhere else.”

“Whatever you say.” Cedric’s lips curled up and he stood up. Now that his business was done here, he had other important things to do.

“Take it easy…” He slapped them both on the shoulder and made his way downstairs. He needed to celebrate. And what better way to do that than whirling off the day with some fun.

The twins eyes lingered on the door after the guy left. Then Greg turned to his brother.

“Who is she?”

“You wouldn’t want to believe it.”
