The Mischievous CEO Won't Let Me Go
Chapter 20: Will She Be Cured
Chapter 20
A few days later…
The mansion was bustling with laughter and chatters of the servants as they carried on their activities in a festive mood. Inside the house, several boxes wrapped with ribbons were stacked in one corner of the living room, with some maids taking them upstairs.
Lucy glanced at the box a maid had just come inside with and she sighed. There was barely any space in her room and she wondered how many more they had left to bring inside.
“I wonder when they’ll come,” she mumbled while looking down at her hands. Cedric had informed her that they were on the way. It had been several hours now. What was keeping them?
“That’s not what you should worry about now.” Her first sister-in-law chuckled. “Let’s focus on making you look great.”
“Your right, Clara,” said her second sister-in-law. “The skin care specialists will arrive any moment. Go inside and change your clothes.”
Lucy looked between her sisters-in-law, they were both stunningly attractive. And they always seemed to glow more every time she saw them. Was this the effect of living with someone you love? Even with many kids, they always looked happy.
She wished she could also have the kind of bond they shared with her brothers. But that would require loving each other. After apologizing that day, Cedric rarely called her. She even tried to speak to him sometimes, but he always seemed to be busy.
Their conversations were almost always short and he would cut the call before they even speak for a minute, giving an excuse that he was busy. She let out a sigh, then stood up and walked inside the walk-in closet. Maybe after their engagement, things will get better and they’ll see each other more often just as he had promised.
When she came out of the closet, her room was more crowded. The children had come inside, playing and chasing each other around. And Gina walked in, holding two babies in her hands. Both twins had woken up and were wailing.
“Sister-in-law,” she panted as if she had just run a marathon. “I think they need milk.”
Her first sister-in-law took one baby and Lucy could see horror in her eyes. It was a hassle, living with three children. Most especially twin infants. She had always complained.
Lucy took the other boy from Gina’s hands and started rocking him. She chuckled as Gina slumped down on the couch and wiped the sweats on her forehead. She mumbled something about not wanting children, especially twins, and her sisters-in-law laughed.
Just wait until the kids stopped crying and she would fight everyone who tried to touch them apart from her. Gina had claimed the role of their Godmother immediately after they were born, saying they looked more like their father, who was her eternal crush.
Speaking of twins, her thoughts wandered to a particular person and she shuddered. Remembering that she had almost taken the weird thing he gave her out of the bag, she scolded herself inside. She just had to keep calm. Everything was going to be alright. Hopefully.
“I need to go to Carl’s room.” Her first sister-in-law stood up as the babies wouldn’t stop crying. She turned to her second sister-in-law and said, “Mira, please tell me when everyone arrives.”
A maid that had just entered took the other baby from Lucy and they left the room.
“Big Sis.” Lucy sat beside her second sister-in-law. “Do you also think my case is hopeless?”
Even though she didn’t know what that romantic affection felt like, It was certainly the thing that held couples together. How could she have children for someone she didn’t love? Cedric had said they would work on it. But will she be cured?
“Of course not, Lucy. Your case is not hopeless and you’ll certainly fall in love someday,” Mira said with a chuckle.
Lucy nodded slowly and sighed. She wasn’t going to listen to the psychologist’s words. Everything would turn out well in the end. Her eyes darted to Gina who had suddenly chuckled and she narrowed her eyes.
“You don’t need to worry about that, Lucy,” Gina said while picking up Little Mira who had suddenly fallen to the ground. “With Cedric around and the way he plays with words, you won’t even know when you fall into the ocean of love.”
Lucy pursed her lips and sat down. If not for the taunting gaze her friend was giving her, she would really think she meant every word she said. Gina had told her that Cedric’s words were too sweet for her liking and that she didn’t like men who talked too much. Some of them are hypocritic most of the time.
“I’m so happy for you, Lucy.” Mira stood up and held her hands. “Clara and I have prepared a surprise for you. Tomorrow’s going to be perfect.”
The children had run out and it was quieter in the room again.
Lucy smiled and before she could ask what kind of gift it was, the door opened and Gina’s sister-in-law stepped in.
“Didn’t I tell you to wait for me?” she gave Gina a pointed look while struggling with the large bags in her hands.
Gina gave her a guilty smile then took the bags from her hands and walked inside the closet. Lucy tried to take a peek inside the bags but was too late.
“Mira, where’s Clara,” Gina’s sister-in-law asked as she fanned herself with one hand while the other hand was on the huge bump in her stomach.
“She just left with the twins. I’m also on my way out. Let’s go grab something to eat,” Mira said and Maya nodded eagerly before they both stepped out of the room.
Gina returned and stretched on the bed. “Hehe, I can’t wait to see you branded tomorrow. From then on, the spotlight will only be mine.”
“Hmph, whatever.” Lucy sat beside her and rolled her eyes. Not like she liked all the attention. She just enjoyed the fun, which she was going to miss so much.
