Chapter 21: Get Him To Come

Hopefully, Cedric would take her places where she could breathe in the fresh air all day. He had mentioned going to the beach during one of their phone calls and she was really looking forward to it.

Ara came inside and told them the skin-care specialists had arrived. Even when she was saying it the girl didn’t seem excited like the other servants in the house. And Lucy’s worried gaze followed her back as she hurried out of the room.

“Hmmm.” Gina sighed and sat up on the bed. “You need to do something about her, Lucy,” she mumbled in a sad tone. “Otherwise, I’m not sure she’ll agree to follow you when you get married.”

Lucy nodded and also sighed. Ara had begged her that she should allow her to follow her after her wedding. But now that Cedric’s on the girl’s blacklist, would she change her mind? Lucy hoped note. She couldn’t imagine taking any other servant with her. Ara had grown more withdrawn for the past few days. She thought she would come around eventually, but it seemed like the girl had her mind set on not liking Cedric anymore.

“I’ll speak with her or even get Cedric to come here often.”

If they get used to him he’ll gradually enter their heart. Even she didn’t have control over it. And she couldn’t blame the maid. No woman would like to be stared at in the wrong way. It was humiliating.

“And next time, he shouldn’t drink before coming here. Argh! I can’t believe him,” Gina groaned and stood up. She took Lucy’s hand and they both walked out of the room and downstairs where the Estheticians were waiting in one of the guestrooms.

The waxing, exfoliating, and scrubbing took like forever. And Lucy was screamingly hungry by the time it was over. She didn’t even get to eat lunch and it had to be brought to her by the maids. Gina had kept her company throughout the whole process and she was very grateful.

Argh! Trying to look pretty was pain. And she pitied the celebrities who had to go through that always. Gina was used to it and she seemed to like it as she kept asking for her own skin recommendations now and then. But Lucy could not bring herself to enjoy it. The whole process was murder.

“Don’t worry, by the time they’re done and you see the result, you’ll like to go through it again and again,” Gina had comforted her when she almost burst into tears during the waxing process. They almost peeled off her skin for goodness sake.

The children had come in and turned the place upside down before running out to play somewhere else. And their mothers– Lucy wondered where they were until a maid came inside and informed them Cedric’s family had arrived. They must be attending to them.

The sun had almost set when they were done and after Gina helped her to her room as she couldn’t even walk properly, she bid her goodnight and left, promising that she would come early tomorrow as the engagement was in the evening.

She got ready and dragged herself downstairs as the whole family was gathered already in the dining room.

“What do we have here.” Her brother suddenly emerged from nowhere and she almost jumped. No one was in the hallway with her seconds ago. “Hehe, little cat. You almost scared me. I thought I’d seen a ghost.”

Lucy looked down at her glowing skin with a pout. And she shoved his hand away as he messed up her hair. She wasn’t in the mood to squabble.

“Tsk tsk tsk. I was even thinking of taking you to the basement to knock some sense into you.” He chuckled, seeing that she wasn’t fazed by his taunting. “Seems like your unlucky groom has started his job.”

Lucy took in a deep breath to calm her anger. Then she continued in her steps to walk past him. But he was keen on bullying her tonight. He quickly blocked her path and continued.

“Tell me, Little cat. What did that boy give you to make you this obedient. Don’t tell me you already—”

“Argh!” Lucy covered her ears to block his words and he started laughing. She was already dealing with a lot for God’s sake. And didn’t his wife say that he was in the basement and couldn’t come till tomorrow? Why was he suddenly here?

“Hehe, Little cat—”

“Zach.”

Her Big Brother’s voice interrupted him and relief washed over Lucy.

She hurried away from her crazy brother and ran into her brother’s arms. “Big Bro, you’re here. When did you come?” She asked eagerly.

“While you were busy putting on this ghost’s costume,” Zach answered her question with a chuckle then hurried away when her Big Brother gave him a glare.

“Big Bro, do I really look like a ghost?”

Lucy had also noticed that her already white skin had become lighter.

“Of course not. You look beautiful” Her Big Brother chuckled and patted her head. “Let’s go, everyone’s waiting,” he added and Lucy nodded, then held his arm and they walked downstairs. Her in-laws were waiting, and even— Cedric.

Her heart rate picked up and her hold tightened around his arm. The first time they came was only with his father. Now, she would also meet other members of his family. What would they be like? Would she like them? And on top of that, would they also like her?

“Relax.” Her Big Brother patted her on the shoulder with a smile and she smiled back.

Having him by her side at the moment, she felt reassured. Both her brothers loved her, but each had their way of showing their affection. They had been the source of her endless pampering since little, and she always got what she wanted. Not that she was complaining, in fact, she loved it.
