Chapter 35: Be His Girlfriend

Stores and houses all in one place. And people that all seemed to know each other. She walked into the store and her eyes were met on a huge number of phones sitting on counters. The shop attendant stood behind a tall glass box which was also filled with phones.

Lucy walked forward and spoke to the guy whose eyes were glued to her and staring at her in a trance. “Hi.”

But he didn’t seem to hear her but kept blinking his eyes.

“Are you alright?” Lucy’s brows furrowed and she waved her hand in front of him. That seemed to have brought him back to his senses.

“Oh, hello. How can I help you, Miss? Are you here to buy a phone? We’ve got different brands and models, and all at affordable prices,” The guy said with a wide grin.

“Actually…” Lucy fumbled with her purse and brought out her phone. “I’m here to sell one. If you could please—”

Before she could finish speaking, the guy snatched the phone from her her hand, taking her by surprise.

“Where did you get this?” He looked between her and the phone in shock.

“It belongs to me,” Lucy answered, while tilting her head to the side. She didn’t like the look he was giving her now. Because it was the same kind of look her mother gave her whenever she sneaked a snack behind her pillows.

“Are you sure it is yours?” The guy’s brows furrowed and he leaned forward to take a good look at her. His eyes traveled down her dress and the simple shoes she wore. When he returned to her face, his lips curled into a tiny smile.

“Of course.” Lucy nodded her head. But the guy didn’t look convinced, ekven though he still gave her that smile which was starting to make her feel uncomfortable.

“Well, do you have the phone’s receipt?” He raised a brow.

“Why would I need a receipt?” Lucy frowned. She didn’t even know where the phone was bought, it was gifted to her by her brother, on her last birthday. And was she supposed to have the receipt?

“I can’t buy this phone from you without seeing it’s receipt,” The guy said, as if hearing her thoughts. “Who knows if…” He let the remaining words hanging and Lucy immediately understood.

She scratched the back of her neck and gave a nervous chuckle. “I promise, it’s really my phone. If you don’t believe, you can check inside, I’m sure you can find thousands of things in there that will really prove I’m telling the truth.”

“Oh, really?” The guy chuckled. The look of disbelief was so prominent on his face, Lucy wanted to shout. If she wanted to leave this city early, she had to book a very fast flight. And to do that, she had to get this money as soon as possible. Why wouldn’t he believe her for goodness sake?

“I– I swear, I’m not lying, I really need the money. It is urgent.”

“Really?” The guy had on an amused look. He circled round the counter, and came to stand in front of her. “But I don’t see you around here… I’m sure you don’t live in this area.”

‘Oh,no.’ Lucy gulped and she took a step back. Did he recognize her? Her heart pounded in fear.

“You kind of look familiar.” The guy cocked his head to the side, while his frownd deepened. “Like someone I’ve seen on the news. A celebrity?”

“N–No!” Lucy shook her head quickly. “You have never seen me on the news. I’m not a celebrity,” she said frantically.

“Not a celebrity?” The guy asked and she bobbed her head rapidly. ’Now, if you could please buy the phone and let me get the hell out of here,” she wanted to say. But the guy wasn’t done yet.

“I very much thought so.” He chuckled. “But you do have a face of celebrity, has anyone ever told you that?”

“Huh?” Lucy tried to register his words for a few seconds. “Oh, yes I’ve heard that a lot.” She smiled. “Now, the phone?” She drew him back to the topic at hand.

“Oh, the phone.” The guy nodded and that look appeared again on his face. “I can’t buy this phone from you because I’m not convinced if it truly belongs to you.” He shook his head. “However.” He lowered his voice as a smirk appeared on his face. “I will consider making an exception, If…”

Lucy stepped back from his look as apprehension built in her heart. “I– If what?”

“If you will be my girlfriend.”

“Huh?” Lucy frowned. Did she have to be his girlfriend for him to buy the phone? “B–But we only just met.”

“I don’t think so.” The guy leaned forward. “From the moment you walked though that door. I knew it was you. You look so familiar, I’m sure I’ve seen you countless times in my dreams. This kind of beauty, cannot be mistaken any where. Be my girlfriend and I’ll buy your phone.”

Lucy took a step back from the crazy guy. This was the strangest proposal she ever received her whole life. “I can’t be your girlfriend,” she stuttered, “I don’t even know you.”

“But you want to sell your phone, right?” The guy chuckled. “I can see you’re in very much need of the money.”

Lucy blinked and her eyes darted everywhere but him.

“What do you say, Beauty.” He continued. “Will you be my girlfriend?”

Come on, she was already dealing with a lot for the sake of everything pure. Lucy groaned inside. And she needed to fly as soon as possible— wait, the flight. A thought suddenly popped up in her head. Wasn’t she leaving the town anyways? Well, he asked for it.

“How much will you buy it?” She looked up through her lashes and said.

The guy’s eyes lit up and his jaws dropped as if he couldn’t believe what he was hearing.

“Y–You will be my girlfriend?” He asked in astonishment.

“Who will be whose girlfriend?”
