Chapter 36: Stop At A Place

A voice came from the door and Lucy turned around to see the sudden intruder. But her eyes widened and her jaw dropped when she saw the guy that just entered the store.

“Jai…” She opened her mouth but couldn’t utter any other word.

Jai also seemed surprised to saw her. Then he looked between her and the shop guy.

“Lucy, what are you doing here?” He strode forward and stared at her in worry. “I was passing by when I sighted you from afar. I didn’t know my instincts could be right.”

Lucy blinked, still speechless. Talk about not bumping into someone familiar. How could this day get worse. “Jai, I– I am—” she finally find her voice.

But Jai wasn’t listening. He gave the guy a hard glare and yanked the phone of his hand. Then he turned to Lucy, and he all but pulled her out of the store.

“Urgh, let go of me. My money. Let go.” Lucy whined helplessly. However, he didn’t let go. And when they reached outside, he made her sit inside his car.

Lucy groaned again and knocked on the window, because he had locked her inside.

“Jai, come on.” She folded her hands when he joined her inside the car.

Jai shook his head at her and gave her the phone.

“What were you doing in there, Princess?” He started the car and Lucy whined once more.

“Isn’t it obvious? I was trying to sell this phone.”

“I don’t know… All I saw was two people trying to hook up.”

“That is because he wouldn’t but it until I agree to be his girlfriend.” Lucy pursed her lips.

Jai looked at her in disbelief and a small laugh escaped his lips. “That was very wrong, princess. If I haven’t got in. I’m sure you would already be saying your marriage vows by now.”

“Ah, never. That’s gross.” Lucy quickly shook her head. Marriage was the far thing from her mind. And with a guy she just met? Eeww. She must be the biggest fool in existence. But wait, wasn’t that the same thing that almost happened between her and Cedric? She almost shuddered.

“Besides, I was planning to ditch him,” she added with a sigh.

Jai chuckled again and said, “You don’t ditch men, Lucy. You tell them what you truly feel.” He softened his voice and breathed out a deep sigh. “Even that guy you got engaged to.”

“You saw the news,” Lucy muttered as a matter of fact. She wasn’t even surprised. And she wondered what he came doing at this kind of place.

“I know everything,” Jai answered her. “Everything that occurred since that night at the bar.”

“Urgh! You must also think I’m a fool now.” Lucy covered her face in exasperation.

“You did what was right,” Jai shook his head and chuckled.

“Really?” Lucy bit her lips.

“Yes. But with the wrong person.”

“Oh.” Her shoulders dropped and she relaxed back on the chair. “Now my life is messed up,” she said tiredly.

“Your life is not messed up.” Jai glanced sideways at her. “At least, not yet.”

Lucy looked at him and shook her head, already used to him speaking in riddles.

“Where are you headed?” He asked a few seconds later. “Don’t tell me you’re going to sell your phone.”

“But I need the money if I want to leave this place.” Lucy whined.

“You want to leave?” Jai squinted his eyes and turned to look at her properly.

Lucy covered her mouth then sighed. Well she already blurted it out. And now that he was starting to ruin her plans, she only had one option.

“Y–Yeah.” She nodded. “So would you please help me book a flight ticket?” She asked meekly.

Jai remained silent for a few seconds and Lucy held her breath.

“You really have to go?” He said with a frown.

Lucy nodded slowly and fumbled with her hands.

“Okay, I will help you.”

“Really?” Lucy’s brows went up.

“Of course.” Jai used one hand to pat her head. “If I don’t, it will be my biggest lose.”

Releif washed over Lucy and she gave him a broad smile. “That is very nice of you, I owe you a lot.”

“Yeah. You do owe me.” Jai laughed and turned back to the road. “But,” he said after some time.

“But what?” Lucy tilted her head. Was he going to give her conditions just like that crazy shop guy?

“We have to do something about your appearance,” Jai muttered. “We don’t want any one to recognize you at the airport, right?”

“Oh.” Lucy nodded in realization. She had also thought of that. “You’re right. That’s a great idea.”

“Yep. So we have to stop at a particular place.” Jai chuckled.

And true to his words, just after a few rides, he pulled over in front of a salon.

Jai took her hand and walked inside the salon filled with women. There were hairdressers and makeup artists all in one place. Some ladies were having their nails painted, somes were having their eyebrows fixed, and others were doing something weird to their legs.

Lucy tried to conceal her presence, by stepping back to hide behind him. But he shook his head and pulled her forward.

“Don’t worry, no one knows you here,” Jai whispered to her. He took her hand and made way inside.

“Oh, look who we have here.” A lady walked in their direction. She had such thick make up on, it was no doubt she worked there.

“It’s been like ages since I saw you, what a splendid surprise.” She placed her hand on Jai’s chest and said softly. “I hope you’re here to see me.”

Lucy’s head turned from Jai to the girl. They seemed to know each other. But not only her, almost all the girls inside the shop seemed to know him. Because immediately the first girl finish speaking, the other girls looked in their direction. They instantly left their clients and all came hurrying toward him, asking the same kind of action as the first one.
