Chapter 56: They Want To See You

‘She was pampered and got whatever she wants. She thinks she can have two men for herself, even displaying it in public.’

‘The one I pity most is that poor guy. I heard he came from another city. He’s very rich and handsome, I wonder what else she was looking for.’

‘Her family didn’t restrict her, she’s a total shame for her family. Not only did she make a name for herself, she has also tarnished every good image her family has been building up for decades.’

‘She deserves whatever is coming to her. From now on, I’ll stop following her.’

‘I thought she was an angel, who would ever think she’s the biggest vixen ever existed.’

‘My perspective of this world has changed. Beauty not only causes chaos. It is a tool for destruction. And I would love to congratulate our princess, for successfully destroying her own life!’

The angry notes displayed in front of her. Lucy’s heart was numb at the sight of those texts. The tears that flooded from her eyes, staining her face, and her hand that gripped the phone as it shook violently, was the only sign of her grief.

Every one of their words was more brutal than Thea’s. She didn’t want to keep on looking. It wasn’t going to change anything. This was the way people saw her now. Everyone just leaped to their own conclusion, without thinking if there was another side to do story.

A majority of the texts were even written by most people she knew. Her friends from college whom had been nothing but nice to her. Now, they were even the firsts to come out and lash at her in the media. Her number of followers had even dropped drastically.

A shameless vixen. Was that all they had been thinking of her all along while buttering her up and giving her wistful smiles. This was the reality she was now in. The world wasn’t rainbows and sunshine after all. And people weren’t all shade of true kindness. It didn’t matter that they pushed all the blame on her, but they even went ahead to bask in her misery.

Her only regret was that her family was forced to be pulled into this. They didn’t deserve it. It was her own recklessness, but she sure wasn’t at fault.

Lucy finally forced herself to look away while wiping away the tears that were almost dry on her face. The phone had long fell out of her hands.

She was still trying to collect herself when a sound jolted her and her eyes darted to her phone which now lay on the bed.

The ringing sound went on and when she picked it up, her brother’s name was displayed on the screen.

Lucy cleared her throat and answered the phone, then came her brother’s voice. She could sense anxiousness in it as well as grief. Despite the fact that he sounded calm.

“Lucy, are you alright?” Was the first thing he asked.

Lucy smiled and nodded. She replied, “I’m fine, Big Bro.” While keeping her voice as normal as she could.

“Good.” Her brother sighed, as if relieved. Then he asked the question she never expected.

He asked her if she was happy with Greg. Right, her family must have thought that she came here directly after she left the mansion, just like her father commanded. Lucy had a hard time forming an answer. That question came out of the blue. She never expected it. Even her brothers weren’t happy that she got entangled with the twins several months ago, why was her Big Brother suddenly asking her this? Wasn’t he supposed to be convincing her now to leave Greg’s place.

She finally managed to answer, “I’m very happy, Big Bro. Greg is treating me good.”

Then came silence. Her brother didn’t say anything, but she could hear his steady breathing.

It was unsettling. Lucy didn’t like the feeling building in her heart. If there was nothing off, her brother would definitely not ask her whether she was happy with a man they thought dangerous for her.

Then he broke the silence after a while and said, “Cedric returned.”

Lucy’s heart skipped a beat. Of course she knew Cedric had come back. But hearing it directly from her brother, made the anxiety rising in her increased. And she dreaded what he would say next.

“Father and Mum want to see you. They want you to come back to the mansion,” he added finally and Lucy took a while to register his words.

And she finally did, her breath caught in her throat and she sprang to her feet, the phone almost fell from her hands.

“Th–They want me to come back?” Her heart picked up a new rhythm she was afraid it would burst out of her chest. Did that mean her parents forgave her? They wanted her to return, she never saw that coming.

“Yeah,” her brother muttered a reply, but his voice didn’t sound optimistic as she expected. And Lucy realized there and then that it must have had something to do with Cedric. Her brother was not the kind that beat around the bush. He always went directly to the point. Was that why he had asked if she was happy with Greg before breaking this to her?

Lucy didn’t know what to feel at this moment. Her parent wanted her back. But what if there was more in store for her? She didn’t like the idea that Cedric must somehow be involved. She wouldn’t lie that she was beginning to get afraid.

“They are waiting for you. Make sure you come, okay?” Said her brother, in a doting voice. The tone he had always used for her. He didn’t change even a bit. He didn’t appear disappointed in her. Her brothers wouldn’t. Even though she knew they wouldn’t like to go against their parents, for her sake. They were still worried about her a great deal.
