The Mischievous CEO Won't Let Me Go
Chapter 55: Malicious Insults
Chapter 55
“Oh.” Lucy nodded in realization then her thoughts wandered to the phone’s seller.
“But that lady isn’t bad,” she murmured. “She even took care of me and let me spent the night at her place.”
Greg’s eyes narrowed but he didn’t say anything. He only stared at her in a daze, she couldn’t fathom his expression. He opened his mouth as if he wanted to ask her something, but kept quiet in the end.
“Her clothes are really nice. I want to buy them at her place.” Lucy went on, not liking the silence between them. He seemed deep in thought, even though his eyes were still glued to her face.
“I’ll get you a stylist. You can choose as many clothes as you want,” Greg finally said, after returning to the moment.
Lucy’s heart sank and she wondered what business he had with that area.
She really liked that lady’s clothes. She must also be expecting her to come back.
Then she did the one thing that came to her mind. If it worked on her brothers, there was no way it wouldn’t work on any one else.
She placed both hands on his chest and put on a puppy expression. Then she looked up at him and batted her lashes. “But I don’t want a designer’s dress, Greg. I want to buy my clothes from her.” Her voice was almost like a child’s and she added a sad tone to it. “Please…” She gave him a pout and batted her lashes again.
Greg seemed to have lost his tongue, as he stared at her, dumbfounded. His Adam’s apple bobbed up and down and his trailed to her lips.
“Lucy,” he said in a strained voice. “Oh, God. I’m in trouble,” he muttered almost helplessly as if those words were to himself. As if he was scolding himself.
Lucy was confused again. Her lips parted and she wanted to talk but he quickly removed his hand and shook his head, as if trying to dispel something. Then he made her stand up from his laps and she was all the most confused.
He also jerked up from his chair, his breakfast long forgotten.
“Okay, we’ll go there. But that should be tonight, when I get back from work.”
Lucy’s eyes lit up and she nodded frantically.
She wanted to ask him if she could bring Gina, but after giving her a gently pat on the head, he strode off, even avoiding to make eye contact with her.
Lucy stood alone in the dining room as he left the house in a hurry. She scratched the back of her neck and her brows furrowed again.
Why was Greg acting this way? She wondered again. The puppy-eyed look seemed to work on him too, but still, why did he look as if he had seen a ghost?
She couldn’t help but let out a giggle. Did she scare him just now? He wasn’t after all as troublesome as she thought.
If she wasn’t the one that terrified him, then something else must have. How she wished to know what it was.
She sat down and finished her breakfast, then toured his house. It was big and beautiful. She could even notice a basketball court in the backyard, through the large floor-to-ceiling windows.
Even though being alone all day while he was at work would made her feel lonely, she loved the silence and she could do whatever she wanted, without any one watching her or breathing down her neck.
Her gaze darted to the button on the wall which he asked her not to touch, and her head tilted to the side. It still sounded strange to her. Was he hiding something suspicious in there? Was it something embarrassing. But she promised herself to be obedient. She had to be careful around him if she wanted to continue living here. Especially now that she just found out he was a psychopath who could easily change personalities, she couldn’t risk getting into trouble with him.
When she reached her room, her eyes landed on her phone which was on the bedside table and still changing.
She plugged it off the charger and settled on the bed then switched it on.
Instantly, several notifications popped on the lit screen. From her social media accounts as well as her call logs, everywere was flooded with notifications.
Lucy paused and blinked, as her heart started pounding. She didn’t need to be told what those many notifications were about.
She caught her bottom lips between her teeth, then sighed. If she looked into them, she was surely not going to like what she would see. It was better to just ignore them and focus on more important things, like the several voicemails that were from her brothers and sisters-in-law. Most also belonged to Gina, a handful were from Jai.
Oh, Jai. Her thoughts wandered to the guy and another sighed escaped her lips. She would make sure to give him a call later.
Lucy lifted her finger to swipe away the notification, but instead her finger tapped into one and her social media homepage immediately popped up before she could have time to react.
Instantly, her eyes were met with a long line of posts all tagged with her profile. Now, she couldn’t look away even though she tried. Her eyes were just glued to those words. The malicious insults and gossips. That went straight to pierce through her heart like daggers.
‘She’s not a damsel after all.’
‘Her life is over, isn’t that great.’
‘She acted all nice and innocent. I know her, I took the same major with her. But let me tell you, she’s a wolf in sheep’s skin. Who doesn’t know she seduced almost all boys at school.’
‘Her types are supposed to be kicked out of the cycle. Just because she’s beautiful and her family is rich, she thinks she can do whatever she likes.’
‘Making out with a different guy when her engagement ring hasn’t even warmed her fingers. I say she has the guts.’
