Chapter 27: His Wife Isn’t Good Enough

Not a minute late, the stylists arrived. Eve sat in front of the mirror as they put makeup on her face.

“There’s a variety of designs to choose from. Which one do you prefer, Ma’am?” One of the stylists asked as she arranged some gowns on the bed.

“What color is Ethan’s necktie?” Eve accessed the gowns. The designs were on par with each other and it was hard to choose one.

“I think Mr. Anderson is wearing a golden necktie tonight.”

“In that case, I’ll take the red one with golden patterns.”

“That’s a nice choice. You have eyes for great things, Ma’am.”

Eve smiled through the mirror. After the stylist was done with her face, she pulled out the cap on her head and let her hair loose.

“You have great hair, Ma’am. What kind of hairstyle do you prefer? A bob, or a shoulder-length hairstyle with a bang, or you’d like us to add an extension?”

“No, make it wavy at the end, and leave some strands at the front.”

The stylists did as she instructed and when they finished styling her hair, Eve took the gown and they helped her change into it.

“It’s the perfect fit.”

“You have a great body, Ma’am.”

Eve twirled twice in front of the closet mirror. Now, she was literally sparkling.

“Next is the jewelry.” One of the stylists brought out a set of jewelry. “You have eyes for beautiful things, Ma’am. Which do you think will suit you best?”

“Keep the heavy ones aside. I think this will do.” Eve picked out a golden necklace that glinted against the light. The earrings weren’t too long. And the ring and wristwatch that came with them were the perfect size.

After putting the jewelry on her, the stylists squatted down and helped her feet into a pair of high-heeled shoes.

“And now for the pouch.” They brought her a matching pouch. “This is perfect. You look so surreal, Ma’am.” They made Eve turn around and she gasped at her reflection.

“I have worked with so many celebrities, and I must say I’ve never seen such beauty.”

“People talk a lot of things about why Mr. Anderson doesn’t go public with his wife. But now that I think about it, the reason must be that Mr. Anderson is cautious about other men coveting his wife.”

Eve’s lips curled into a smile and she nodded to the stylists. ‘Urgh’ If she knew she was this beautiful in her past life, she would have at least made use of her great looks to pursue a modeling career instead of wasting her brain cells on Mia’s instructions.

She thanked the stylists and they bid her goodbye then packed their things and left. Eve left her former bedroom and headed to the room she now shared with Ethan.

Ethan must be done getting ready hours ago, as both their stylists arrived at the same time. She walked into the room and found it empty. Was he downstairs?

However, before Eve could turn for the door, her eyes caught Ethan’s phone which just started ringing.

She picked the phone up from the bedside table and gritted her teeth at the sight of the contact display name.

“Sir, I would like to know what color is your necktie so I can wear a matching dress.” On answering the call, Jessie’s silky voice came from the other end. “Also about how to go there. Will you pick me up later, or can I head down to the Villa so we can go together?”

“Tsk tsk tsk.” Eve clicked her tongue, shaking her head. “You’re so pathetic, Jessica? Don’t you feel anything for hanging out with married men?”

“Y–You.” Jessie sounded confused for a few seconds. “Mrs. Anderson, what problem do you have with that? I understand that you’re jealous, but Mr. Anderson always goes to such events with me, obviously because his wife isn’t good enough. And for your information, Mrs. Anderson, the only married man I hang out with is Mr. Anderson. Also, watch out, because tonight, Mr. Anderson and I might do something that can affect all our destinies.”

When the girl was finally done talking, Eve’s lips broke into a smile and she sighed. “Oh, poor Jessica. For your information, Ethan is going to the party with me tonight. I’ve warned you not to think of competing with me, but you’re just too desperate. I won’t waste my time on you, because my Ethan is anxiously waiting downstairs to see my new look. Have a great night sobbing and cuddling your pillow.”

Eve hung up and scrolled through Ethan’s call logs. Jessie’s calls were too frequent. ‘Urgh.’

“What are you doing with my phone, Eve?”

Ethan’s grumpy voice came from the door.

Eve lifted her head and his dark expression disappeared. His eyes widened for a second and his lips parted.

“Oh, my, my Dear Ethan.” Eve sauntered toward him, smiling sweetly. “I wonder what formidable good deed I’ve done to deserve such a great-looking husband. Has anyone told you you’re the most handsome man alive?” She touched his necktie then smoothened his collar.

Ethan’s eyes accessed her body before he broke out of his trance.

“I hear that a lot.” He took his phone from her hand and turned for the door.

“Urgh! Ethan.” Eve followed him out of the bedroom. “I just complimented your looks. Can’t you at least say something about how I look?”

“Not bad.”

“Not bad!?” Eve controlled her hands from strangling him from behind. “Is that the only word in your vocabulary? Don’t you know words like beautiful, gorgeous, fantastic, or mouth-watering?”

“Stop being dramatic.”

Eve folded her hands, pursing her lips. They walked downstairs to the living room– Urgh, she had almost forgotten about his stupid brother.

“Listen to me, Skinny girl. Even if you spend years in a temple, praying day and night for this Young Master to notice you, you’ll have to die in disappointment. Because as you see, the heavens have blessed this Young Master abundantly, and only a goddess can stand next to him.”

Matt was pestering the maid. He was dressed in a red suit, and he walked back and forth like a peacock, with both hands in his pants pocket.

“Ahhh! I must be dreaming!” His attention came to the stairs and his pupils expanded. “Evelyn– I mean Sister-in-law, is that really you? No no, Big Bro must have sneaked another woman into the house. This is too good to be true.”

“Matt, watch your tone.”

Matt scrambled forward and Ethan gave him a warning look.

“Hehe, Big Bro.” He scratched the back of his neck. “Even if you bring another woman into this house, This Young Master will take your secret to the grave. Besides, Sister-in-law doesn’t deserve a place in your life. We might as well get rid of her.”

“Shut up, Matt. I’m beginning to believe that you really have a defect in your eyesight. Or maybe it is just your brain that doesn’t function well.” Eve glared at him and resumed walking out of the house.

“Ahhh! Evelyn– I mean, Sister-in-law. It’s truly you.” Matt hurried after her. “What kind of transformation did you undergo? I swear even the goddess in my dreams can only hold candles for you.”

“I know, right? Even a goddess can only hold candles for me.” Eve gave Matt a sweet smile before glaring at Ethan.

“Bah! This Young Master is just stating the fact. Don’t think I’m complimenting you, Sister-in-law.”

The Limo arrived and the chauffeur came out and held the door open. Ethan entered and Eve was about to follow him inside but Matt blocked her way.

“Don’t even think about it. My Big Bro and I are going together. Only this Young Master has the right to drive in such luxury.”

“Get out!” Ethan kicked him out of the way and pulled Eve into the car.

“Argh! Big Bro, wait. You can’t go without me. Open the door!” Matt knocked rapidly at the glass window as the Limo drove out of the Villa.

Suddenly, Eve felt a tug on her hand and she glanced sideways at Ethan. “What is it–”

Before she could finish speaking, Ethan pulled her close and his lips landed on hers.
