Chapter 30: You Asked For It

“What is going on?”

“Why are policemen here?”

“Is there a criminal amongst us?”

The crowd started murmuring and the soft music quieted down.

Cole stared at Eve, fists clenched and eyes flashing with anger. The policeman advanced towards her and her brows furrowed.

“Mrs. Anderson, Mr. Nathan has put a charge against you. Can you follow us to the station?” One of the policemen held out the handcuffs in his hand and said.

“A charge against me? For what?” Eve’s frown deepened. It wasn’t because of the beating she’d given him in the changing room at the boutique, right?

“What is going on? What brings this imbecile here? This Young Master has been ransacking the whole city to find you. You dared come here and press charges against my Sister-in-law?” Matt hollered, flailing his hands in the air.

More crowd gathered around and the whispers increased.

“What business might Mrs. Anderson have with this Young Man?”

“He doesn’t seem to be part of the social circle, but he doesn’t look ordinary either.”

“Ah, I think I know him. Isn’t he the eldest grandson of Mr. Hemsworth Nathan? His family is known to come from a military background.”

“Mrs. Anderson, Please come with us. You will hear whatever it is at the police custody,” The policeman said.

“Sister-in-law, don’t listen to them. This imbecile is seeking death. I’ll make sure I deal with him for daring to spoil our party.”

Eve’s confusion heightened as Matt nudged her behind him.

“Wait a minute, officer.” Cole held up his hand and stepped forward. “Since she wants to know what she did, why don’t I spill it out? Don’t regret asking Evelyn, because you asked for it.”

He stopped in front of them and scoffed.

“Everyone knows that Mrs. Anderson is the real daughter of the Maxwell family. She was brought up in the province for thirteen years until her real family found her.”

A hushed fell in the crowd followed by several gasps at once.

“But no one knows that Mrs. Anderson has been dating me for a long time now. In fact, she just broke up with me recently, because even after her marriage to Mr. Anderson, we still kept in touch.”

More gasps resounded in the hall and the murmurs increased.

“Evelyn.” Her grandfather came to her side. “What is happening here?”

Eve’s heart pounded as her eyes went back to Cole. ‘What is this idiot up to?’

“Also, Mrs. Anderson has forced me to do some things without my consent. I wanted to leave her after her wedding, but she forced me to be with her. She knows that I only have eyes for Mia, and she did everything to keep me by her side.”

Mia walked out of the crowd and stood beside Cole, and everyone’s eyes widened.

“As you all know, Mia was supposed to be in her position right now. But Mrs. Anderson wouldn’t even let her stay with the parents she grew up with. Immediately she came to the city, she forced Mia back to the province. That wasn’t enough, she also promised to make Mia’s life miserable by keeping us apart.”

“Do you even know what you’re talking about, Cole?”

“Let me finish what I’m saying, Evelyn. You asked for it.” Cole chuckled. “Now, as I was saying…” He faced the crowd. “After finding out that Mia and I are serious about each other, she became insecure and offered her body to me several times. Of course, I’m a man.” He shrugged. “So I fulfilled her wish.”

“But that wasn’t enough for Mrs. Anderson.” Cole shook his head. “Seeing that I was still interested in Mia, she lied to her husband that I was the one assaulting her. And see what Mr. Anderson did to me.” He brought some pictures out of his pants pockets and showed them to the crowd.

“Oh, my goodness. That is very cruel.”

“He looks unrecognizable.”

“I wonder how he survived with that much blood.”

“Argh! Enough with your lies, Imbecile. My ears are bleeding already.” Matt covered his ears and said loudly. “It is this Young Master that beat him up and not my Big Bro. How could you say my Sister-in-law has eyes for you? You’re so ugly that even a blind person will never fall for you. Tell me, in what way can you be compared to my Big Bro?”

“Mrs. Anderson.” The policeman stepped closer. “Since you’ve listened to Mr. Nathan’s accusation, it is time you follow us. Anything you say henceforth will be taken into account in the court of law.”

“I’d like to see you take her out of this place.” Ethan stood beside Eve. She wondered when he even arrived.

“Mr. Anderson,” the policeman said. “This is an issue regarding your wife. Please don’t give us a hard time, Mrs. Anderson.”

“Is this how you guys work? Why don’t you listen to her side of the story first?” Matt blocked the policeman. “I have told you that it is this Young Master that beat him up. I also won’t hesitate to repeat it, because I won’t be satisfied until I see him dead.”

“Why don’t you give In already, Eve?” Mia held Cole’s arm and snickered. “I was only silent in the past because your parents have taken good care of me. It wasn’t enough that I decided to be best friends with you. You still wanted to bring me down and harm my Cole.”

“Seriously, Mia. I thought you guys were great actors but I was wrong.” Eve folded her hands across her chest. “Cole, do your words even make sense? You said I forced you to be with me. You made it seem like I was so obsessed with you even though I was married. Matt is right. In what way can you even compare to my husband that I’d think of chasing after you? And Mia, you’re miserable enough. What benefit will I derive from making your life more miserable?”

“This is unbelievable. And to think that they were best friends.”

“This relationship is complicated.”

“The Young Man claims they’d been dating from the province. Then the Maxwell family found her.”

“Yes, who did he meet first? Mr. Anderson’s wife or the fake Young Mistress of the Maxwell family.”

“Children of these days with their drama. I think I’m having a headache.”

“Mr. Nathan, I was going to let you go because I don’t waste my time on insignificant people.” Ethan brought out his phone. “But you just pulled the last string by pointing accusations at my wife.”

“Go to the media room and play the recording.” Ethan put the phone on his ear and instructed. “And now, everyone shall know what kind of a fool you are.” He glared at Cole and held Eve’s hand.

Moments later, a loudspeaker sounded in the room and everyone looked up at the huge screen.

Playing on the screen was the incident that happened several days ago when Cole came to the Villa.

Eve’s eyes went to Ethan. When did he record it? Was it done by his bodyguards?

As people watched the scene play out, they whispered loudly and pointed at the screen.

“It turns out Mrs. Anderson was telling the truth.”

“It wasn’t Mr. Anderson that beat him up, it is actually this Young Master.”

“And to think that the second Young Master of the Anderson home looks younger than him.”

Cole’s expression fell and Mia’s palms left his arms, her hands shaking.
