The President's Daring Wife
Chapter 32: Congratulations Mrs. Anderson
Chapter 34
“Ethan, wake up!” Eve sat on the bed, shaking the sleeping man who wouldn’t budge. “Urgh! Ethan!” She whined.
“Evelyn, stop it.” Ethan groaned in his sleep. “What do you want?”
“You know what I want.” Eve didn’t stop shaking him. “Remember your promise to me last night. It’s morning already, let’s set out.”
Ethan opened his eyes, groaning. He reached for his phone on the bedside table and turned it on. “It’s four in the morning. Go to sleep, Eve.”
Eve shook her head. How could she go to sleep? In fact, she’d been having sleepless nights for several days now. If she didn’t take any action early, things might go out of hand.
“Ethan.”
Ethan dropped his phone and turned his back to her, closing his eyes.
“Ethan.” Eve shook him again and called out. “Are you going back on your promise now? You said you will take me to the hospital this morning.”
“We have to set out early, Ethan. This way, you can also arrive at work on time when we’re done at the hospital.”
“Eve!” Ethan sat up on the bed, groaning. “Stop being paranoid. There’s nothing wrong with you.”
“Ah, you can’t say that. And since you’ve promised to go with me, you won’t back out of it, Ethan.”
How could she not be paranoid? In her past life, she fell pregnant in the same month Ethan first touched her.
But now it had been more than a month since she woke up, and she hadn’t seen any sign yet. The course of events was rapidly changing, did it mean her pregnancy was delayed? Or was something wrong with her? And what if she didn’t fall pregnant in this lifetime?
Some opportunities came only once, right?
“Eve.” Ethan pushed her hands away. “Your period ended yesterday.”
“That’s the problem. Why did my period come?”
They’d been working hard for these past few weeks. Something was supposed to have happened already, wasn’t it?
“You’re so dramatic,” Ethan grumbled before sliding his legs off the bed. He stood up and entered the bathroom.
While Eve left the bed and entered the closet to find something to wear as she had already taken her bath.
She left the bedroom and hurried downstairs into the kitchen.
“Madam, you’re up early.” Elena and the maids looked surprised.
“Yes, Elena, Good morning. Is breakfast ready?”
“Hope you slept well, Madam.” Elena’s eyes lingered on the eyebags underneath her eyes and the maids greeted her. “The breakfast is not yet ready. We just turned on the stove.” She added.
“Oh, in that case, just boil some water and make tea for me and Ethan. Please make it fast, Elena.” Eve cupped her palms together and she hurried out of the kitchen without waiting for the woman’s reply.
“Tea and bread?” As they sat at the dining table, Ethan looked between the breakfast in front of him and Eve, a big frown forming on his forehead. “Evelyn, did you ask for this?”
“Uhuh.” Eve nodded while gobbling down her breakfast. “We must leave immediately, Ethan. We can’t waste time eating,” she said between mouthfuls.
Ethan shook his head and stared down at the food for a few seconds before finally deciding to eat.
“Hurry up, Ethan.” Eve drummed her fingers on the table, rapidly tapping her foot on the floor.
“Argh! Ethan, stop eating like a baby.” She stood up and paced back and forth.
“The tea is still hot.” Ethan gave her a hard look.
“Then let me help you blow on it.”
“Don’t.” Ethan’s glare intensified. And while he ate his breakfast, Eve resumed pacing around. “Sit down, Eve.”
“Urgh,” Eve whined. She opened her mouth to say something, but Ethan’s phone started ringing.
Ethan answered the phone and placed it on his ear. “It is still early,” he said to the person at the other end, glancing now and then at Eve.
“Can’t we reschedule?” He asked.
“Okay, I’m on my way.” After saying that, he hung up and dropped his phone.
“Who is that, Ethan? Is something wrong?” Eve rushed to his side and gave him an eager look.
“It’s Jessie.” Ethan took a tissue and wiped his mouth. “I have an important client to meet with. We’ll go to the hospital when I return home later.”
“Ah! Ethan.” He rose to his feet and Eve quickly blocked his path. “You can’t do this to me? Whoever that client is, I’m sure they can wait.”
“Stop being childish.”
“But you promised me. Remember our contract. I swear I’ll be mad if you don’t follow me to the hospital.”
Ethan picked up his phone and tapped into it. A few seconds later, Eve’s phone beeped in her bag.
“W–What did you do, Ethan?” She asked apprehensively.
“I sent you money,” Ethan replied. He dropped his phone into his pants pocket, picked up his suit jacket from the chair and wore it, then he nudged her aside and strode out of the house.
“Argh! Damn you, Ethan!” Eve cursed out loud as she stared at the alert message on her phone.
Damn him! Damn that Jessica! And Damn whoever that client was.
Eve wiped her imaginary tears and sank into the chair, moaning softly. She’d really die of devastation if she didn’t know what was happening to her.
She tapped into her phone and entered the app Elena had sent her. Would she find any taxi this early?
Eve decided to try her luck, but no taxi was around at that time. She left the dining table and strolled out of the building and stood on the balcony.
Gradually, the dark sky faded and streaks of light tore through the clouds, pouring down on the earth.
She tried the app again and, this time, located a taxi nearby which arrived in no less than ten minutes.
On arriving at the hospital, Eve headed to the gynecology department. Ethan had already made an appointment for her yesterday. They were supposed to come here last night, but he told her he was tired.
And this morning, that stupid Jessica just had to spoil her plans.
“Mrs. Anderson.” After hours of making her undergo several tests and taking her vitals, the OB-GYN came back with her reports.
“Congratulations, Mrs. Anderson. I have great news for you.”
