Chapter 33: If I Kill You Now, Am I Being Merciful

Eve sprang to her feet, her chest hammering and her nerves tingling.”G–Great news. What great news! Am I pregnant?” She clapped her hands and asked.

“Please sit down, Mrs. Anderson.” The OB-GYN sat on her chair and gestured for her to sit, smiling softly.

“The good news is, you are a hundred percent healthy, Mrs. Anderson. There’s nothing wrong with your system, and the chance of getting pregnant is also a hundred percent.”

Eve’s hope had reached the sky, but now it plummeted down to the bottom of the deepest pit.

“Ow.” She lowered herself to the chair and fiddled with her fingers. “If I’m a hundred percent healthy, why aren’t I pregnant yet?” She looked up and asked. “Please tell me, Doc. Is there something I’m doing wrong?”

“You aren’t doing anything wrong, Mrs. Anderson.” The doctor chortled. “But I’ll offer you some advice and prescribe some medication for you. They can help you accelerate the process.” She picked up a pen and scribbled some notes on a piece of paper.

“Do you know when your ovulation days are, Mrs. Anderson?” She dropped the pen and asked.

“Yeah.” Eve nodded. She had taken note of all those details.

“That’s good.” The doctor said, “I’d suggest you reduce too much activity on the other days and focus more on your ovulation days. Your uterus is fragile, and with too much activity, there’s a high chance of it being tampered with or contracting a disease. And instead of the good news we’re all anticipating, it can lead to grave consequences.”

“Oh, okay. I’ll take note of that, Doc.”

“Also.” The doctor went on. “Avoid too much junk food and focus more on a balanced diet. Here is the prescription.” She handed her the paper. “You can get everything at the pharmacy. I wish you luck, Mrs. Anderson.”

Eve thanked the doctor and left for the pharmacy.

While bringing out her card to pay for the medications, the pharmacy attendant told her that her payment had been covered.

“Huh?” She lifted her head and her brows creased.

“Mr. Anderson is the largest shareholder in this hospital. All your treatments are free, Mrs. Anderson.”

“Oh.” Eve nodded in realization. She took the bag of medicines and left after thanking the pharmacy attendant.

‘Urgh. Ethan.’ she didn’t want to be reminded of his name.

By the time she left the hospital, the sun had already come out and streams of people walked on the roadside.

Eve brought a facemask out of her bag and wore it. All thanks to the fact that the paparazzi had now recognized her, she could no longer go out in public with her face perceiving the fresh hair.

Was that even fair?

Eve’s stomach growled and she patted it. The doctor told her to focus on a balanced diet. No more junk food.

She sighted a convenience store ahead and crossed the street. The house had long run out of orange juice, she might as well grab some as well as other nutritious food.

While shopping at the convenience store, Eve’s stomach grumbled now and then but she ignored it. She retrieved her phone from her bag when she was done, and dialed Ethan’s number.

“Ethan.” The phone rang only for a few seconds before he picked it up. “You really are something. Did you even see any clients? Are you in a meeting right now?”

“The meeting has ended,” Ethan replied.

“Oh.” Eve pursed her lips and said, “I saw the gynecologist, she said nothing is wrong with me. Ethan, although we must work very hard, you have to be gentle with me from now on. I swear if anything happens to my precious uterus, I’ll turn into a ghost and hunt you forever.”

“You went to the gynecologist?” Ethan sounded confused.

“Uhuh. Did you expect me to sit back all day at home waiting for you? What if another client suddenly pops up? Aren’t you prioritizing your work over me?”

“Why did you go out alone, Eve?”

“Don’t I have the right to?” Eve rolled her eyes. “Come on, Ethan. Stop acting like a baby. I know you’re guilty for not going with me. In that case, you’ll make it up to me by treating me to a romantic dinner tonight.”

“You, Evelyn. Who said you could leave the house?”

“Cut the mean husband act, duh. I’m a free bird and I can fly wherever I want. Just admit that you’re guilty. I have a generous heart and I’ll forgive you easily.”

Ethan sighed helplessly from the other end. “Go straight home, Eve.”

“Urgh! You’re so boring. Yeah, I get it, I’m heading home,” Eve mumbled. “But wait, Ethan. Why don’t you keep me company on the phone while I go home?”

“I’m at work.”

“That won’t hinder you, of course.” Eve smiled. “Come on, Honey. Isn’t that what romantic couples do?”

“Don’t interrupt my work, Eve.”

“Argh! Just keep me company!” Eve yelled, dragging people’s attention. She ducked her head then cleared her throat and lowered her voice. “Ethan, remember you can’t make me unhappy.”

“You’re so troublesome.” Ethan sounded helpless. He made a sound to continue speaking but another sound interrupted.

“Sir, about our lunch date. Which hotel do you want me to pick? Are we also going to have dinner there?”

Eve’s mouth hung open and she blinked rapidly. That was Jessie’s voice. Was she going on a date with Ethan?

“Pick the nearest hotel,” Ethan answered her.

“Alright, Sir… I’ll go and get prepared.”

“Ethan, y–you.” Eve couldn’t close her mouth.

“I’m hanging up, Eve. Make sure you go straight home immediately.” With that said, Ethan hung up.

Eve stared down at her phone. She gripped it hard and gritted her teeth. ‘Hmph! Ethan, Jessica.’ Why were things getting more complicated? Had she underestimated that girl too much?

Eve held out her hand to stop a taxi, but her phone rang. She brought it out, expecting it to be Ethan, but a strange number flashed on the screen. A private number.

“Hello?” She answered the call, frowning.

“I have told you, Evelyn. You don’t dare trifle with me and go scot-free. You keep digging more holes for yourself. If I kill you now, am I being merciful?”

That was Cole’s voice. ‘Urgh.’ she had almost forgotten about the idiot.

“Cole, why don’t you give up already? Are you done basking in the humiliation from that night? If you still want more trouble, I’ll gladly give you a dose of your own medicine. Intimidating me will do you no good, why don’t you and your dear true love go and spend your honeymoon in hell?”

“Hehe.” Cole chuckled. “What you did to Mia, Evelyn. You’re going to get it back tenfold.”

“I don’t have time for useless people like you.” Eve scoffed and hung up.

Ethan had already angered her as it is. If she let that stupid Cole do the same, she wasn’t sure if she wouldn’t explode in the middle of the street.

The sun burned high up in the sky and she squinted her eyes then held out her hand again. A taxi was driving in her direction. However, as it got near, its speed accelerated and it aimed right at her.

“Ahhhhh!” The bags fell off Eve’s hands and she let out a scream.
