Chapter 87: Something Wonderful

The next day, Eve walked down the stairs, yawning. Her eyes wandered around the living room. Ethan was nowhere to be found. Great.

She headed out to the servants’ quarters and met Elena on the way.

“Do you need anything, Eve? It’s not yet lunchtime, but I can cook up a fast meal if you’re hungry again.”

“No need, Elena.” Eve waved her hand. She just finished a jar of glucose, she wasn’t hungry. “Actually, I was on my way to meet you. I’d like you to help me with something.”

“Okay, please say your request.” Elena gave looked at her intently.

“Well…” Eve hesitated. They both walked into the house and paused in the living room. “I’d like you to give me some suggestions. I want to give Ethan a huge surprise, but I’ve run out of ideas.”

“What kind of surprise?” The Stewardess’s eyes lit up.

“Erm, it’s about something important I’d like to tell him. It’s good news,” Eve smiled and whispered.

“Oh, I’d be glad to help you plan your surprise, Eve. Do you want to make it big or just between you two?”

“I’d prefer to make it Big.” Eve gestured with her hands. “Maybe I can invite some people. It’s great news everyone must know.”

“That’s so thoughtful of you.” Elena chuckled. “If you want to make it huge, then I suggest we throw a party. You can invite your family and the Young Master’s family. Would you like to hold the party in a hall or just here at home?”

Eve leaned against the couch, tapping her chin. “I don’t think I’ll need to rent a hall for this. Let’s just put up balloons around the house. And we can have some music and nice food.”

“Very good.” Elena clapped. “Leave it to me, Eve. I’ll make sure everything is prepared. By the way, when are you going to hold the party.”

“The weekend. Ethan will be at home and everyone will be free.”

“The weekend it is. I won’t disappoint you, Eve. It will be the greatest party everyone has ever witnessed.”

“Thank you, Elena.” Eve smiled at her before turning around and heading upstairs. She walked past the bedroom and proceeded to Ethan’s study room then pushed the door open.

“You promised to spend the whole day with me, Ethan. Why are you working?” She walked to his desk and looked at the computer screen.

“You fell asleep and I was bored.” Ethan glanced at her.

“But you could cuddle with me. Isn’t that what we agreed on?” Eve sat on the chair’s armrest, resting her head on his shoulder. “Ethan, why did you go back on your promise?”

“Stop whining. I wasn’t sleepy.”

“Urgh, even if you weren’t sleeping, you could keep up your promise.” Eve clung to his arm and tugged at it. “I have something to ask you, Ethan,” she said after a while.

Ethan looked away from the screen, urging her with his eyes to go on.

“Who is that girl in the photo with you?” She murmured. “Is she your friend? A past girlfriend? A crush?”

“None of those. She was a colleague.”

“Really?” Eve gave him a skeptical look. “What kind of colleague?”

“We were modeling for a brand,” Ethan replied. “It was a one-time job.”

“Ah, is that it?” The serious look in his eyes convinced Eve that he wasn’t joking. “You once worked as a model, Ethan?”

“Nope. I was made to volunteer,” Ethan answered. “I was at the beach that day when they approached me.”

“And you couldn’t turn them down?” Eve wrapped her arms around his neck and he nodded. “That was so generous of you. One would believe you and that girl had something going on between you two.”

Ethan returned his attention to the computer screen and swiped the mouse.

“Did you get paid for the job?” Eve asked.

“Nope. I turned it down.”

“Why?” Eve put on a frown.

“It would mean I was in need of money and the brand ambassador might bother me to take more pictures.”

“You could just take the money and turn him away.”

“I could beat him up, Eve.” Ethan gave her a sideways glance. “I don’t have the patience to endure being pestered.”

“Ow.” Eve nodded in realization. “Good thing they were sensible not to bother you. When you were in the military, Ethan, did you have a hard time? It seems you went through strenuous training.”

Otherwise, why would he be this short-tempered and also strict?

“I didn’t.” Ethan’s eyes were fixed on the screen. “I only spent a few years.”

“But you’re too strict, Ethan…”

“Eve, let me work.”

“Urgh, am I disturbing you?”

“You’re pestering me.” Ethan gave her a helpless look. “Just let me finish this. I’ll join you later.”

Eve stood up from the chair and grumbled. “That’s not fair. You were supposed to spend the whole day pampering me. Ethan, I’ll get back at you!” She yelled and left the study room.

Her stomach grumbled as she walked down the stairs and Eve caressed it gently, sighing inside. Her precious babies… How much longer would it take for her to know their genders? What if they turned out to be girls? Or a boy and a girl?

Her mood lightened up and her lips spread into a smile. Eve sat on the living room couch and turned on the TV. Several minutes later, one of the maids called her for lunch, and Ethan came down and joined her.

“How will you feel if I tell you something wonderful, Honey?” Eve looked up from her food as they sat at the dining table.

“Something wonderful?” Ethan dropped his spoon. “What is it?”

“Nothing.” Eve shook her head, laughing softly. “I just want to know how you’re going to react to a wonderful news. Ethan, will you jump in joy or scream out to the sky?”

Ethan narrowed his eyes then shook his head before he continued eating.

Eve sighed in contentment and ate slowly. “Honey, I want you to take me shopping sometime. Since we got married, you never accompanied me to the mall.”

“When do you want to go?” Ethan dropped his spoon and asked.

“Ah, you’re going to take me shopping?” Eve’s pupils expanded and she laughed. “How about Friday? We can even go out on a dinner date.”

“I won’t be free on Friday. Remember we have a lot to do this week,” Ethan reminded her.

How could Eve forget? The company was currently doing some cleaning up. All the employees were being accessed and scrutinized, and the bad ones were being screened out. It would take a whole week to wipe out the mess caused by the Ambitious Employees Club members.

“Let’s make it Saturday,” Ethan suggested. “I’ll take you out in the morning and we can spend the whole day outside.”

But Saturday was the weekend. What about her plans with Elena? Eve smiled and nodded. She could just give him the surprise on Sunday.

“Hubby.” Eve suddenly remembered something and laughed. “Is it true that even your grandfather avoids you when you’re mad?”
