The President's Daring Wife
Chapter 86: I Want You To Trust Me Fully
Chapter 88
“Can you listen to yourself, Mrs. Anderson? I know you are looking for a way out, but please don’t implicate me in your problem. Mr. Anderson and every good shareholder and manager in this room know well that I have been nothing but loyal to this company.”
“Well, let’s see if you have truly been loyal.” Eve snickered. “And don’t interrupt me again, Jessica. You’ve had your forum, now it is mine.”
Eve glanced at Ethan then the other people across the table, her gaze sweeping past Amanda and the two middle-aged men who looked as pale as a sheet.
“I joined that Club to fish out the traitors, to begin with. Yes, I have carried out missions for them. They gave me files to sneak among the president’s documents. They asked me to plant a chip under his desk to know every important conversation he has. But tell me, Amanda.” Her eyes fell on the Lady. “What did I tell you about that chip?”
“You said it malfunctioned because the only way you could place it was under his chair. And since the president always sat on the chair, we couldn’t hear his conversation properly.”
“Mira, you…” Mr. Alan pointed at her.
“The chip didn’t malfunction. I was the one that damaged it.” Eve shook her head. “And also those documents you asked me to sneak into his files… Well, I sneak some after replacing them, while for others, I simply threw them away.”
“Why did you do that to us, Mira?” Amanda rose to her feet.
“Isn’t it obvious? You are planning to bring down my husband. So it’s true, I acted as a spy, but only to protect this company.”
“Since it has come to this!” Mr. Clinton also stood up. “We won’t admit to any of those things, Mira. You can take us to the authorities, but you don’t have any evidence of us asking you to do those things.”
“Oh, really?” Eve put on a disappointed look then chuckled. She played with the device in her hand and pressed the switch button. “This voice recorder is more than enough to serve as evidence. In it, I have recorded every conversation we’d ever had during those meetings. Also, I didn’t forget to record all your names in it.”
She stopped speaking and looked at Ethan. “These are not the only people that are planning to bring this company down, Honey. Jessie is correct again. There are many of them scattered around this company.”
Silence descended upon the room as voices started playing from the recorder. Eve skipped from one conversation to another, as the minutes trickled by and turned into an hour.
“We can spend the whole day listening to these conversations, this recorder still won’t come to a stop. But I’m sure that you’ve gotten your answers from the ones you’ve listened to.”
“This is outrageous of you, Mira!” Mr. Alan exploded.
“Please call me, Evelyn.” Eve gave him a sweet smile. “It is Evelyn Anderson.”
“You…”
“Mrs. Anderson, don’t think that only by recording those conversations, you have come clean and can be labeled innocent.” Jessie scowled with a bitter expression. “You might have done that to escape punishment in case your secret is revealed someday.”
“Oh, I haven’t forgotten about you, Jessie.” Eve faced her and chortled. “And I won’t explain myself further, at least not to you. But I have one thing I must ask everyone. Please, when you see a threat to a company you are working in, what will be your first reaction? The bad employees, I don’t need answers from you.”
“Well… When there’s a threat to this company and I happen to notice it, the first thing I’ll do is investigate it.”
“For me, what I’ll do first is to alert the security department.”
“No, I think I’ll also investigate first. And after getting solid evidence, I will immediately alert the president.”
“That’s right. No one in their right mind will keep quiet when such kind of thing is going on under their nose.”
“So, Mrs. Anderson, have we answered your question?”
“You’re all correct, gentlemen. Thank you for your contribution.” Eve curtsied with her hands. “I can see that even though there are employees in this company that have hearts of a pit’s bottom, there are also many whose hearts shine as bright as gold.”
“That’s right, Mrs. Anderson. You are truly commendable.”
“I can see that we share the same viewpoint.”
“Now we clearly understand your reasoning. Not everyone is brazen and capable enough to take up such a dangerous act and wander into the enemies’ Den.”
“Sure sure. You guys flatter me.” Eve smiled sweetly. “And back to you, Jessica.” She turned to Jessie. “Didn’t you claim that you were aware of this club’s existence? You also claimed that they approached you once but you turned them down… That means you have been aware of their operations for a very long time now. You also know that they are embezzling funds from this company. Tell me, Jessica. Is this how a loyal employee works?”
“When did you hear me say that!?” Jessie yelled. “I can see that you’re trying to corner me, Mrs. Anderson.”
“Really? Am I the only one that heard when she admitted it?” Eve put on a confused look.
“Don’t take us for fools, Jessie. We weren’t deaf when you said that.”
“When Mrs. Anderson asked you the question, you instantly admitted that you knew about that secret club.”
As the shareholders spoke out in agreement, Jessie’s expression fell. “D–Don’t listen to them, Mr. Anderson. M–Mrs. Anderson did that intentionally. She cornered me.”
“How did she corner you?” Ethan glared at her.
“Mrs. Anderson doesn’t like me and everyone knows that. She chased me out of your office because she thought you and I were having a relationship. She’s too insecure, Sir. She can do the same to other of your employees if you allow her.”
“No one is talking about your feud with Mrs. Anderson or her relationship with her husband,” one of the shareholders spoke up. “Don’t divert us from the topic.”
“But it’s true that Mrs. Anderson has always been jealous of me!” Jessie was flustered. “Because I’m better than her and because I can take care of her husband better, she will do anything to get rid of me!”
A hush fell on the room and everyone stared at Jessie in shock.
“Tsk tsk tsk.” Eve snickered and shook her head. “I think you just landed yourself into that hole, Jessica.”
Jessie gasped and covered her mouth. “P–Please don’t misunderstand. I– I was only.”
“So you have been giving my wife a hard time.” Ethan cut her off. “You have always coveted her position, Jessica.”
“No, Mr. Anderson!”
“From now on, you are no longer needed in this company. Eve is right, you are the biggest traitor. You knew something like this is going on for a long time, yet you didn’t alert me.”
“P–Please, Mr. Anderson.” Jessie scrambled out of her chair and knelt in front of Ethan. “Those people are dangerous. Even though I turned them down, they warned me not to say anything.”
“That is not enough reason!” Ethan snapped. “Take her out, Security! And make sure she never sets foot here again!”
“Ahhh! Mr. Anderson, please don’t do this to me. I swear I love you! I love you down to the bottom of my heart!” Jessie screamed as a security man dragged her out.
Silence descended again and Ethan stared in Amanda’s direction. “As for you people, you are going to get what is coming for you.”
They all ducked their heads in shame. One of the middle-aged men dabbed at the sweat on his face with a hankie, while the other one sniffed his tears.
“I hope you guys will be more than ambitious in jail. Because you are not going to leave there any soon.”
More than twenty policemen barged into the room and seized all of them. Eve could only watch the scene in wonder.
“Wait a minute…” She stopped them before they left. “Please make sure you investigate them very well. They are still hiding a lot of things, especially about some bigger fish to catch. Their mission is to bring this company down, but I think that bigger fish is their goal.”
“Thank you, Mrs. Anderson. We’ll take it up from here.” While the policemen left, the remaining managers and shareholders clapped and whistled.
“Great job, Mrs. Anderson. You are very daring.”
“What more can we expect from the president’s wife?”
“If all wives are like this, we men will always be in seventh heaven.”
Eve laughed and waved at them while sighing inside. She hadn’t expected things to turn out this way. But that Jessica acted too fast. She still had one very important thing to know about… It was nothing but that bigger fish.
Hopefully, the policemen would get their answers this time.
Ethan called off the meeting and she left the hall with him. As they stood inside the elevator heading down to the parking lot, he caught her off guard by pinning her on the wall and kissing her hard.
“Do you realize what you just did, Eve?” He pulled away and said softly. “You just saved the whole company.”
“I know.” Eve smiled. She gazed at him, and suddenly, she had the urge to cry.
When Ethan lost his company in her past life and she woke up after getting this second chance, she thought it was all because she’d been a bad wife. However, other forces were also involved. It turned out his employees had a greater part to play in it.
“What kind of reward do you want? Whatever it is, I’ll make it happen.” The look in his eyes reflected the joy in her heart.
“Your full trust. I want you to trust me fully, Ethan.”
“I trust you a hundred percent.” Ethan stroked her hair. “Ask for something else.”
“Th–That will do.” Eve hugged him. “As long as you trust me, we will be alright.” She nuzzled her face on his chest and sighed inside.
Everything was over. ‘Maybe it’s time to tell him the great news.’ she couldn’t keep it in any longer.
