Chapter 89: Side With Him And Sign The Divorce

Eve’s heart couldn’t stop beating. She looked out of the car’s window again and again as Ethan drove them through the city.

“What do you think happened to him?” She asked.

“We’ll know when we get there,” Ethan replied.

“Do you think he’s sick, Ethan?” Eve glanced out of the window. “Please drive faster. We must get there soon.”

“Relax, Eve. Nothing’s going to happen.”

“How can you tell me to relax!?” Eve snapped. “The more time we waste, the worse things can become. It’s my Grandpa for goodness sake! You know I can’t relax!”

“Eve–”

“Just drive faster, Mr. Anderson!” Eve yelled.

“We can’t break the traffic rules,” Ethan said calmly. “Do you want the police to come after us?”

“I don’t care if any police come after us. If you can’t drive faster, just give me the damn wheels, Ethan!”

“You can’t drive at all.”

“Are you challenging me!?” Eve held his hands. “Just give me the wheels and see how I’m going to race through this city! Argh! Ethan, drive faster or give it to me!”

“Sit still.” Ethan pushed her hands away. “You will cause an accident.”

“No, I won’t sit still! Just give me this stupid steering wheel!”

“Evelyn!”

After a lot of fighting in the car, they finally arrived at the mansion. Eve jumped out of the car and hurried inside the house while Ethan followed behind.

Her footsteps slowed down as she walked into the large living room, and her eyes wandered around, a small frown forming on her face.

“They don’t seem to be home.” Ethan voiced out her confusion.

Eve nodded then a realization came to her. “Ah! What if he’s already at the hospital? What if they have rushed him to an emergency?” She grabbed his collar and shook him. “Ethan, please do something. My Grandpa is too young to die!”

“I told you to relax.” Ethan extricated her hands from his collar. “Eve, you’re overreacting. No one said he’s sick.”

“But no one’s home! Even the servants aren’t around.” Eve’s eyes darted everywhere again. “Do you think they’ve all gone to the cemetery?”

“Stop overthinking, Eve. Your thoughts are running wild.”

“Argh! Why are you so calm, Ethan?” Eve grabbed his collar again. “I swear if anything happens to my Grandpa, you’ll be the first person I’ll get back at.”

Ethan opened his mouth to speak but footsteps came from the stairs. Eve’s eyes darted in that direction and her eyes lit up at the sight of the maid.

“Where is everyone, Samantha? You were the one that called me, right?” She pushed Ethan aside and rushed to the girl.

“You’re right, Young Miss.” The maid gave her a gentle smile. “Your grandfather asked me to call you immediately. However…”

“However, what?” Eve asked frantically. “Where is my Grandpa? Is he alright?”

“Young Miss, please calm down.” The maid held her shoulders. “I must have scared you on the phone. Of course, your grandfather is fine. He just went out with some friends, he said he’ll be back soon.”

“Huh?”

“Your grandfather asked me to call you because he misses you a lot. He told me that I should make sure you come immediately. However, after I called you, some guests came and invited him to play golf outside.”

“You mean my Grandpa is fine.”

“Yes, he’s very fine.”

Eve sighed in relief and collapsed into Ethan’s arms, patting her chest.

“I told you nothing happened. You almost gave yourself a heart attack, Eve.” Ethan gave her a disapproving look.

“Young Miss,” the maid said softly. “I have prepared the meal your grandfather asked me to cook for you. While we wait for him, why don’t you fill up your stomach? I’m sure you’re very hungry.”

“You’re right.” Eve rubbed her stomach. “Ethan, let’s go and eat.”

“Aren’t we supposed to wait until he comes?” Ethan frowned.

“Granpa won’t mind. If you won’t eat, I will. I’m starving, Ethan.” Eve hurried to do dining area and sat on a chair.

She grabbed a plate and served herself then poured some juice into a cup.

“You’re right, Young Miss.” The maid followed them to the dining room. “The food might lose its warmth before your grandfather returns. And if he finds out that you didn’t eat, he might disapprove of it.”

“Ethan, won’t you eat?” Eve asked as she gobbled down the food.

“I’m not hungry,” Ethan said flatly.

“Come on, Honey. I know Granpa only invited me. But he’s so generous, he won’t frown upon you eating his food.”

“You…”

Eve gave him a sweet smile and picked up a plate then served him. “This is delicious food. She even cooked all your favorites. Don’t you think it’s Grandpa’s secret way of indulging you?”

“That’s right, Young Master. He specifically asked me to cook these dishes. He must have known that you would come with Young Miss.”

“Why are you still here?” Ethan glared at the maid and she lowered her head then scurried away.

“Ah, what was with that attitude, Ethan?” Eve sat back on her chair after serving him.

“She’s too nosy.”

“You’re unbelievable.” Eve rolled her eyes and continued eating. “This isn’t the way you treat your own servants. I’m sure she didn’t do anything wrong.”

“Eat slowly,” Ethan commanded and she scoffed.

“Aren’t you gonna eat?” Eve looked up at him after a while. “If you don’t eat, Ethan, and my Grandpa gets angry, I’m going to side with him this time and we can sign our divorce.”

“Are you serious?” Ethan narrowed his eyes.

“Of course, I’m not serious.” Eve turned back to her food. “But you must eat, Honey. Even if it’s a little. That will make Grandpa happy.”

Eve finished the food on her plate and Ethan took only two spoonfuls. She urged him to eat more while pouring him a glass of juice.

Then suddenly, the cup fell out of her hand and shattered on the floor. Her vision became blurry and a sharp pain gripped her stomach as her head hit the table.
