The President's Daring Wife
Chapter 90: I Want The Truth
Chapter 92
Eve opened her eyes and a white ceiling loomed above. Her vision blurred for a few seconds before it slowly got clearer, and the smell of disinfectants invaded her nose.
Where was she?
Her eyes left the ceiling and her hand wandered to her stomach. A dull ache coursed through it. She looked around the wide room with only one bed and a couch then two chairs.
A water dispenser stood in a corner and she swallowed… Nothing. Her throat was dry. Eve struggled to sit up and something sharp pricked at her hand.
Looking toward her left hand, her eyes fell on the needle inserted in her arm, and it traveled up to the IV drip attached to it.
‘Urgh.’ she rubbed her forehead and let out a groan. At that moment, the sound of the door opening pulled her attention towards it and a petite figure in a blue uniform walked in.
“You’re up, Mrs. Anderson.” The nurse flashed her a bright smile and checked out the IV fluid. “Seems like it’s almost finished.”
“W–What happened to me? Why am I here?” Eve breathed out, her voice barely audible.
“It was mild poisoning, Mrs. Anderson. You passed out and were brought here. Don’t worry, you’re now in good condition.”
‘Poison!?’ Eve gasped and her hand flew to her stomach. “M–My babies…”
“Your babies are safe.” The nurse flashed her another smile. “But I advise you to be careful with what you eat from now on. If you were brought here any later, it would have affected your babies’ health.”
Eve sighed in relief. Her heartbeat eased and she rubbed her stomach.
The nurse adjusted the IV drip and she turned around then left. Eve closed her eyes, praying in her heart. Thank goodness, her babies were safe. How in the world did she get poisoned? Was it the food she ate? And where was Ethan?
‘Ah! Ethan.’ her eyes flew wide and another gasp left her lips. Ethan also ate that food. Was he alright?
Eve was about to jump off the bed and dart out of the ward when the door opened. The figure that stepped inside was Ethan, however, she didn’t have time to sigh in relief, because the expression on his face spelled trouble.
“Ethan—”
“Evelyn, you’re pregnant!?” Ethan growled. “How long did you intend to keep hiding it from me?”
“Oh, no. Please don’t misunderstand. I–I….”
“You what?” Ethan strode forward and towered over her. “Why didn’t you tell me, Eve? Don’t I have the right to know? And It has been two months. You are two months pregnant and you kept it a secret!”
“S–Stop yelling.” Eve gave him a fearful look. “Can’t you see I’m sick? Now remove this drip and get me some water.”
Ethan ran a hand through his hair, the other hand holding his waist. He glared at her then reached forward for the drip and removed it.
“Ouch! Be careful.” Eve winced and held on to her arm. “Ethan.” He returned with a cup of water and Eve took it then looked up at him. “Don’t be mad.”
“I want the truth.”
“W–Why weren’t you poisoned? You seem alright, but you also ate the food.”
“I’m not gluttonous. Eve, don’t divert from the topic.” He gave her a warning look.
“Are you saying I’m gluttonous? I couldn’t resist the food because I was so hungry. Will you blame me for that?”
“Eve–”
“Come on, Honey.” Eve put the water cup aside and pulled him to sit beside her on the bed. “I swear I hid it from you with a good intention. Remember you were on a trip at that time. And I was at my peak in investigating the bad employees. If I told you, Ethan, would you allow me to continue going to the company?”
“No,” Ethan replied. “That was dangerous. Evelyn, you could endanger the babies.”
“I– I know.” Eve nodded and sighed. “But I was being careful. I was cautious around each of those members.”
“Why didn’t you tell me when I returned? It has almost been a week.”
“I planned a surprise party. I wanted to break the news to everyone. You can ask, Elena about it. Please don’t misunderstand me, I swear I wasn’t going to hide it for long.”
“Evelyn, you…” Ethan looked speechless. He finally let out a sigh and hugged her tightly. “Don’t repeat this kind of thing. It is dangerous.”
“Be rest assured. From now on, I won’t step into any danger, Honey.” Eve laughed softly. “By the way.” She pulled back, her eyes lingering on his face. “How did you react to the news, Ethan? Please tell me.”
“When the nurse told me you’re pregnant.” Ethan tucked a stray strand behind her ear. “What did you expect me to do at that moment?”
Eve sighed and opened her mouth.
“Of course, I was scared, Eve. I was scared that I might lose you all. I couldn’t even bring myself to be happy because of the danger looming ahead.”
“I’m so sorry about that.” Eve took his hand and placed it on her stomach. “I– I didn’t want that to be your first reaction. I wanted you to jump in joy and scream out to the sky.”
“It’s not your fault.” Ethan smiled. “Now that you’re all safe, I’m happy.”
“Huh?”
“I said I’m happy.” Ethan hugged her again. “Thank you, Eve. You’re giving me two babies at once.”
Eve pulled away and rubbed her eyes. “Ethan, you’re smiling.” She gasped.
His smile became brighter and she teared up. “Oh, my goodness.” Eve flung her arms around him. “My husband is so so handsome. If your looks reached the sky before, it’s now elevated to the highest heaven. Ethan, can you smile more often from now on? You look more friendly and approachable.”
“Whatever you say.” Ethan pulled her away and she laughed, her eyes lingering on his face.
“Now, I want all my babies to resemble you. Our family will be a home of beauties.”
“You’re also beautiful, Eve.” Ethan stroked her chin.
“Of course, I know I’m beautiful.” Eve giggled. “I can’t wait to find out our babies’ genders. If they’re boys, I’d love them to look like you. If it’s a boy and a girl, the boy will take after you while the girl takes after me. And if they’re both girls, they can both take after me.”
“You want clones of you?”
“Ethan, you didn’t object when I said both boys will take after you.” Eve poked at his arm. “It’s only normal for the girls to take after their mother.”
“That’s no problem. I just hope they won’t be as troublesome.”
“You think I’m troublesome?” Eve pursed her lips. “Are you trying to pick a fight, Ethan?”
“No, I’m not.” Ethan shook his head. “When did you plan the surprise?”
“Tomorrow.” Eve glanced at the digital calendar on the wall. “Erm, do you think we should still hold it? We can invite the whole family and celebrate.”
“About that…” Ethan frowned.
Eve also frowned and she was about to voice out her confusion when the door flew open and her family barged inside.
