Chapter 11 Can't Wait

Looking down, Violet chuckled.

A bitch!

“Listen to yourself, Cora.” She turned around. “Don't you have a guilty conscience?”

“About what?” Cora snickered, twirling a strand of her hair in a finger. “Clyde and I are perfect together.”

Indeed.

Clyde and Cora were a match made in hell.

Unsatisfied adults who lust after each other.

Verily, they were perfect together.

“Clyde doesn't know you're here.” Cora switched demeanor, her cunning smile transforming into a stern look. “You’d better stay out of my man's way.”

Violet laughed again.

When they both deserved each other, who was she to interfere?

Clyde!

The most heartless man in history.

“You both go and rot in hell!”

“Whatever.” Folding her hands across her chest, Cora rolled her eyes. “If you're serious, do the engagement fast!”

“Vi…”

Someone knocked at the door.

Asher.

“Violet, are you alright?” His anxious voice sounded again.

Cora's switched on her smile.

Saying, “Yeah… everything's fine,” she turned and opened the door.

“Violet and I are just getting to know each other,” she said to Asher. “Sorry for stealing her for some secs.”

“That’s good. No worries.” Asher smiled, looking relieved.

“Take your time. I'll wait outside.” He glanced at Violet and then left the washroom.

Yet,

The suspicious look in his eyes was still there.

Asher wasn't a kid.

He must have sensed something was wrong.

Violet just hoped that he didn't hear snippets of their conversation.

Sigh!

Why was she wasting her time on Cora?

Clyde was here, of course.

Violet was shocked, but that's all.

His appearance shouldn't make her jeopardize the engagement.

She'd let nothing come between her and the engagement.

Without sparing Cora a glance, Violet made to walk past her to leave the washroom,

But Cora grabbed her arm, exerting pressure.

Giving Violet a cold look, she whispered, “Stay away from Clyde. I might consider not telling him you're here-”

“I'll appreciate that!” Violet snatched her arm forcefully, throwing her a glare.

Then she composed herself and walked out.

Asher was standing in the hallway.

With both hands in his pants pocket, he tapped his feet anxiously.

When he saw her, worry flashed in his eyes. “You keep running off. What's wrong, Vi?”

Violet smiled and took his hands,

A gesture that brought shock to his eyes.

“Was feeling unwell,” she replied. “I feel better now.”

“Good.” His lips curled up. “You got me worried. Shall we?”

“Sure.”

Asher led her down the hallway, his fingers interlocked with hers.

The strange and foreign feeling overwhelmed Violet's heart.

But she took in a deep breath.

She could do this!

“Hey, Vi. There you are!” Freya joined them.

She eyed Violet secretly, mouthing “What happened?”

Violet shook her head.

Then Freya mouthed the words, “What's that secret?”

Violet definitely wasn't going to spill it to her best friend now.

Not in Asher's presence.

She signaled her with her eyes, mouthing the words, “It can wait.”

All the while,

Asher didn't have a single clue they were communicating.

He kept looking at his wristwatch. “There's still time.”

“Since all the guests are here, why don't we just exchange the rings?”

Asher threw her a surprised look. “Really?”

Violet nodded.

“Oh, I'll alert everyone then!” Freya volunteered, and then she ran off.

“Well, you're full of surprises.” Beside her, Asher laughed.

The suspicion in his eyes was completely gone.

He loosened up, his demeanor returning to normal. “I was the eager one before, but you seem more eager than me.”

Violet only smiled, masking the turmoil in her heart.

Hopefully, they'd get this over with as soon as possible.

In the past, Asher couldn't wait,

But now, the tables had turned.

Violet could not wait!
