Chapter 115 The Biggest Fool
Hesitating at the door, a part of his mind told him not to step inside.
She might yell at him, lunge at him, hit him, or even do something worse.
A few moments ago when she revealed that furious side of her, he'd almost thought she was a different girl, totally different from the docile and affectionate woman he knew.
“Ash, I'm so sorry!” Yet, she surprised him by apologizing first.
Standing from the couch, she rushed into his arms and hugged him tight, sobbing slightly. “I'm sorry for misunderstanding. I- I didn't know she was your friend… I- I thought… I thought she might snatch you from me!”
She choked on her sobs, burying her face in his chest as if ashamed to face him.
What did he do to deserve this?
How would she react when she found out this was all a play?
Asher’s heart tightened, a foreboding heaviness settling on his chest.
He wanted to hug her back, but his hands hung mid-air.
No!
This is getting out of hand.
Could he carry on?
Shouldn't be tell her the truth right now?
Why could he not control himself?
“Honey, I said I'm sorry!” She stared at him, her eyes full of tears. “I shouldn't have believed you're capable of such a thing. I- I shouldn't have acted crazy!”
How well did she know him?
Was she so confident in him?
And how would she react when she eventually knew that this was all a lie?
“Ash-”
“It's okay. Let's go home,” He forced the words out of his mouth and grabbed his jacket.
Uncertainty flashed in her eyes, more gloom cascading her face.
She seemed afraid.
She seemed more worried that he didn't offer her any words of comfort.
Well, how could he comfort her when he himself was drowning in guilt?
He took her back to the hotel, and throughout the car ride, he couldn't bring himself to say anything.
The silence was disturbing and yet satisfying.
He could go on like this forever if only that would prevent a lot of problems.
When they arrived, James was pacing back and forth in front of the suite.
Asher threw him a dark look.
No matter what, he shouldn't have let her out of his sight.
Knowing that he was in for an earful, James silently backed away and entered his own suit.
“Honey!” She held him desperately one more time, giving him a hopeful look despite the tears in her eyes. “Please let's not go to bed in such a bad mood.”
She was trying all means to make amends.
If only she knew how hard he was also trying not to lose his defenses.
Asher entered the suite with her, still silent.
He headed straight to the bathroom to take a long warm bath and clear his head.
By the time he was done, he hoped she had fallen asleep already,
However, he came out to find her standing outside the bathroom.
Asher flinched, almost cursing out loudly.
Starkly aware of himself, he gripped the towel around his waist.
But then, his mind relaxed a bit, a feeling that scared even he himself surfacing.
What's there to hide anyway?
She'd already seen all of him even if it was in her drugged state.
He thought she would keep on apologizing…
He was ready to tell her that everything was fine and she shouldn't worry,
After pulling himself back together, he was set again to continue this mission and keep things running smoothly,
Yet, she surprised him by just walking past him and entering the bathroom.
She no longer apologized or cried for him to forgive her.
Sighing heavily, Asher entered the closet and changed into his nightwear.
He rested on the bed, but for a long time, sleep did not come to his eyes.
When he sensed her leaving the bathroom several minutes later, he quickly shut his eyes, pretending to be sleeping…
No, he shouldn't have.
As she crawled onto the bed to sleep beside him, his senses were on high alert.
She rested her head on his chest, spreading her arm across him.
Hopefully, she couldn't hear his heartbeat.
He should have gone for something heavier instead of a silk pajamas. Now he could feel every inch of her body against him.
“I'm so sorry, Ash…” Her whispers echoed in the silent room. “I love you, please stop hurting me.”
She must have thought he was deeply asleep.
She even reached out to touch his eyelashes and brows. As she trailed her fingers down the outline of his nose, it took him the utmost self-control not to give himself out.
“I love you, Ash…” She sighed. “Please don't let this misunderstanding affect the beautiful bond we share.”
Then he felt her lips against his.
A light kiss…
It was all it took to reignite the flame in his heart.
Unable to bear it anymore, Asher opened his eyes, kissing her back as he would when he couldn't control his urges and desires.
She gasped at first, jolted by his action. Yet, seconds later, she melted in his arms, letting him take the lead.
This is his second biggest regret.
The second night he would definitely never forget.
If he had exercised a little bit more self-control, it wouldn't have ended like this.
But like the night before, he was still a fool. He'd let his desires control him. He'd lost himself once again.
In the wee hours of the morning, his eyes were wide open, staring at the ceiling in a daze.
She lay naked in his arms, sleeping soundly beside him.
Asher got up. He got dressed and headed to the rooftop.
Smoking on an empty stomach wasn't something he'd usually do, but he wished more than anything that this cigarette could numb his feelings.
Still, the regret inside his heart had only become suffocating.
Damn!
He was a jerk!
He was the biggest fool in history.
“Violet, I'm sorry.”
Which of the Violets was he even apologizing to?
