Chapter 114 Deceived Her

“It's no wonder you ignored the phone calls,” She continued, the tears streaming down her face. “It's no wonder you want James to leave you alone.”

What was she doing here?

How did she even get here?

Shocked, Asher didn't know how to react.

As if caught red-handed committing a sin, he parted his lips, but no words came out.

“Why are you doing this to me, Ash!?” She wiped her tears furiously. “You've never loved me, have you!?”

She stomped forward and peeled Freya away from his arms. When she raised her hand to slap him, Asher finally reacted.

“It's not what you're thinking.” He caught her hand mid-air.

However, she gave him a look of disbelief full of uncertainty.

She'd lost trust in him.

He could see the hate in her eyes.

Wasn't this what he'd been avoiding?

Right now, she looked hurt and his heart beat uncomfortably.

She sobbed, snatching her hand away. “Then can you explain it in a way I'll understand… In a way that won't only hurt me further?”

Yeah. How was he gonna explain it?

She wasn't supposed to be here.

She shouldn't be in the same space as Freya.

“Vi- Vi, you!” Freya blinked rapidly, looking speechless. “What's all this drama about? Aren't you happy to see me?”

“You're trying to snatch my husband away.” She turned to Freya. “If I pretend to be happy, won't you call me crazy!?”

“Huh?” Freya's eyes flashed with confusion. Her eyes darted from Asher to her, and then she laughed. “Ha! I get it! But, Vi, you're so heartless. Instead of being happy about my return, you decided to play this huge prank! Do you want me to die of a heart attack? When did Ash become your husband?”

She looked confused as well as if Freya was speaking in a foreign language. “Honey, you shouldn't have stooped so low to hook up with a crazy woman.”

“You-” Freya's eyes widened.

Asher sighed heavily, running a hand through his hair.

Confused at the moment, he didn't know how to intervene in the ladies’ reaction to each other.

How he wished she never came here.

Now that Freya was here, how was he gonna explain everything to her without risking exposing it to Violet?

“How dare you call me crazy, Violet? Your bestie went missing and you didn't care to look for her. Now you're accusing me of hooking up with Ash, who by the way isn't your-”

“Freya, let's have a word.” Asher grabbed her hand before she completed her words. “I'll explain everything to you outside.”

“What explanation? Just let me give her a piece of my mind!” Freya protested. “I can't believe Violet would abandon me this way!”

Without her consent, Asher forced her out of the room.

To make sure she didn't follow them, he took Freya up to the motel’s rooftop and hesitated.

The wind was unusually chilly tonight, biting at his skin the same way his conscience was doing right now.

“Tell me already before I die from this cold!” Freya yelled at him. “What did you do to my bestie!? Why did she think that you're her husband and I'm the mistress? Ash, did you become villainous and kidnapped then brainwashed her?”

Asher shook his head.

He took in a few deep breaths before addressing Freya's question. “I didn't brainwash her. She's not the real Violet-”

“What!?”

“I- uhm, this is a long story, Freya.” Asher tapped his feet impatiently. “I just hope you won't judge me.”

Folding her hands, Freya gave him a dry laugh. “Why should I judge you when you've turned psychotic and made a clone of Violet? Is she a robot? Do you love my bestie so much to go to this length?”

“She's not a robot,” Asher murmured, not finding it funny. “She's real. She's a human.”

And then, he went ahead to explain all the events that had happened, starting right from when he was notified about her accident.

“I'm keeping her only for Violet’s sake. Once she regains her memories, we're parting ways,” he added.

Freya looked stunned.

She shook her head and then laughed.

“Ash, how do you want me to believe this silly story? Violet has been my bestie for countless years. I know her. It's her!”

It must be difficult to differentiate her from Violet, but it wasn't impossible.

Freya was only disoriented, that's why she couldn't tell the difference.

“Can you keep this a secret?” He asked. “At least, don't inform Violet yet before she regains her memories.”

“The heck I'm keeping this huge matter a secret!” Freya disagreed instantly. “That clone might be a serial killer or more! Violet never had a twin, I'm not comfortable.”

“She's just a weak girl who has lost her memories.” Asher gave her a helpless look. “She won't hurt even an ant.”

It was her fragile state that melted him.

He felt guilty already even before she regained her memories.

He dreaded the day she would wake up to the truth.

Freya paced back and forth!

She shook her head constantly as if trying hard to not believe. “You shouldn't have pretended to be her husband. Do you even love Violet?”

“Didn't you hear my explanation?” Asher gave her a tired look. “It wasn't my choice.”

Freya paused.

She sighed and rubbed her forehead. “Damn! Men. I just got deceived by one, and now here's the guy who claims to love my bestie being someone else's husband.”

“Freya-”

“Yeah! I get it! I understand everything!” Freya raised both hands in the air. “I'll only let that girl go because of her weak state! She called me a mistress-”

“Stop acting petty!”

“I'm not acting! I'm being petty! What if she snatches you from my bestie!?” Freya shot back.

Giving her a helpless look, Asher pulled her forward. “Did you get cheated on? You can't hate all men just because one was a jerk.”

“The biggest jerk!” Freya scoffed. “It's a random guy I hooked up with. I almost lost my life because of him- that scumbag lied to me. Anyway, I'm done with him.”

Asher nodded. “Stop dwelling on bad experiences.”

They left the rooftop after a few minutes.

Asher returned to the suite to find her still there, sitting on the couch.
