Chapter 121 Realizing His Feelings
At The Hospital
Inside the VIP Ward, Asher sat on the chair by the bed, staring at her solemn expression as she slept soundly.
An inexplicable guilt hit him, and he couldn't help but reminisce about the past.
Freya was actually right.
He, indeed, took advantage of her.
He could have controlled himself, yet he didn't.
Several times he’d broken his own vows to himself. He'd lost control again and again as if he was never aware of his own body.
Even at the rooftop, he'd initiated that kiss.
Asher didn't know what had come over him.
A gentle peck of reassurance suddenly turned into a wild fiery kiss, and that was when Violet and Freya barged in.
Damn!
Was luck never by his side?
How strange it was that he never regretted his action. How funny was it that he was more worried about her health.
Moments later, she shifted on the bed, dragging his attention.
Asher reached out and stroked her hair, pulling some strands out of her eyes.
As she fluttered them open, he was lost in a pool of vulnerability and innocence.
“Honey…” She whispered. “Where am I?”
And then without waiting for his response, she glanced around the room.
A subtle frown settled on her forehead as if she was trying to recall what happened.
She sighed in the end and reached out to hold his hand. “I guess I had a bad dream. Can we go home now?”
Clearly, she didn't want to discuss it.
But it would always be at the back of her mind obviously.
Asher couldn't hide it anymore.
He was done keeping secrets.
Violet’s appearance had just changed everything, and the doctor wouldn't lie to him. The medical reports couldn't be faked.
Despite knowing that, he'd still suspected that she was up to something.
Maybe she wasn't.
Maybe she was just an innocent girl who was completely clueless about this new world she found herself in.
“We need to find your family.”
“Huh?” She gave him a confused look. “Why, Honey? I spoke with Mum yesterday, remember?”
But she wasn't her real mother.
Lucy was Violet’s mother.
Asher shook his head. He hesitated before speaking. “I'm so sorry. But there's something you should know.”
He spilled everything gradually, studying her expression and relieved that she didn't show any sign of fainting.
Shock flashed in her eyes now and then, and when he was done narrating the whole story, she appeared speechless.
“I am very sorry.” Asher got to his feet and sat on the bed beside her. “I- I shouldn't have done such a thing.”
He didn't know things would end up like this.
He never knew that he could develop feelings for her.
At first, he'd tried to convince himself that he'd only felt those feelings because she looked exactly like Violet.
But hadn't he flared up in Violet’s presence?
Hadn't he spoken out his greatest fear in the heat of the moment?
Violet didn't refute his words which only meant that his assumption was correct.
Was it even guaranteed that Violet would ever come back to him?
“So you mean that my real name isn't Violet?” She sniffled. “Then who am I? Where did I come from? Where are my real parents?”
His heart twisted with an indescribable ache, seeing her weeping.
Asher pulled her into his arms, hugging her gently. “We’ll find out once we return home. Just know that my feelings for you are true.”
“What about Violet?” She pulled away and stared at him with teary eyes. “Are you abandoning her for me after everything?”
It had been many years indeed, but it was high time he realized that he and Violet would never belong together.
If he hadn't before, then he did yesterday. The only man who could make her lose her stance was Clyde.
As long as Clyde existed, she might never look at another man.
“With other women, I can control myself. But I can't even control my thoughts when it comes to you. I love you. It’s not a lie.”
Hearing that word from him must have chased away her sadness.
She broke into loud sobs, but this time she was smiling.
Shifting close, she hugged him tight. “I love you too. Even after my past memories come back, I’ll still love you always.”
Asher sighed in contentment, stroking her back.
At this moment, it was as if a heavy load had been lifted off his shoulders.
He still cared about Violet, but it was high time he poured his romantic feelings onto sombody else.
