Chapter 120 Afraid To Lose Her
After Asher’s outburst, a deadly silence descended.
Violet’s lips parted in shock, yet, not a single word left her mouth.
As if caught red-handed committing a bad act, she sunk her head in shame.
Memories of her and Clyde in intimate positions flashed through her mind.
Memories of him touching her, and memories of her responding to his touch.
She lifted her head and faced him.
Staring into his eyes, she saw the hurt.
She felt it.
Violet didn't see it coming.
She never expected Asher to know- she never thought that he’d think about such things.
But his statement wasn’t a lie, which made matters worse.
Which was why even as he stared at her with questions in his eyes, seeking clarification, she couldn't defend herself.
Of course, she'd been selfish in this relationship and had no right to blame him.
“Let’s go.” She took Freya’s hand.
This time, Freya didn't protest.
She was eerily quiet, her expression sad and regretful.
Outside the hospital, Violet took in a long drag of the fresh air, struggling to hold back her tears.
Was this her biggest fear?
Why did things have to turn out like this?
“I'm so sorry, Vi…” Freya touched her hand as they drove back to the Villa. “I shouldn't have let anger control me. I- I should have kept my mouth shut.”
It was already too late.
Violet felt more disappointed in herself.
She shouldn't have slept with Clyde no matter what.
Then maybe she wouldn't feel so guilty.
The car ride was silent.
When they returned to the Villa, Mimi was already back from school.
She was playing soccer outside with Harry but instantly abandoned it when she sighted them.
“Mommy! Aunt Freya! Come join us!” Mimi squealed, pulling at their hands.
Violet wasn't in the mood, and the way Freya threw daggers at Harry, it was obvious that she would decline the invitation.
“Have you done your homework, Baby?” Violet asked, stroking her hair.
“Yes, Mummy. Uncle Harry helped me do homework. Daddy was busy in the study room. Uncle Harry is keeping me company.”
“That’s awesome, Baby. I’ll go and check on Daddy. Have a great time with Uncle Harry.”
Mimi nodded and skipped away.
When Violet straightened up and glanced around, Freya was nowhere to be found.
She must have walked away while she was conversing with Mimi, probably because Harry was in sight.
Violet sighed and entered the house.
She headed straight to the master bedroom instead of the study.
Right now, she had no desire to see the man despite longing to know how he was coping.
She took a long shower, standing under the cold water until goosebumps spread across her skin.
Realizing that she was catching a cold, Violet stepped out and wrapped herself in a towel.
She didn't care to change, and sat on the bed, spacing out for a long time.
After what had just happened, would there ever be a chance for her and Asher?
Would they be able to live with each other in the future with the knowledge that they'd both cheated consciously?
Was this the end of their relationship?
Was she overthinking it?
“When did you come back?” A voice startled her, snapping her back to reality.
Clyde stepped into the room.
From the dark cycles underneath his eyes, it was obvious that he hadn't caught a wink of sleep.
“Where are you coming from?” He sat beside her, his voice hoarse with tiredness.
Violet shook her head.
Was she going to tell him that she went to see Asher?
Would she be able to narrate what happened?
“You got me worried, you know…” Clyde went on. “I thought you left me. Despite saying you believed in me, I thought you were scared.”
Recalling what happened last night, Violet felt regretful.
She stared into his eyes and saw fear and hurt.
All she saw was a man who was afraid to lose her.
“I’m sorry.” She looked down, fiddling with her fingers.
Clyde held her chin gently, making her look at him. “All that matters is you’re back. Please don’t leave me, Violet.”
Of course, she wouldn’t.
She couldn’t entertain the idea of ever leaving him.
And at that moment, she decided to come to terms with her feelings.
Violet shifted close and hugged him, resting her head on his chest. “Clyde, I have to tell you something.”
