Chapter 21 The End of Their Relationship

Violet froze in her tracks, hearing his words.

His legal wife?

The words resounded in her mind, echoing in her ears.

He was lying!

They were already divorced!

Didn't he sign the divorce papers?

Violet was sure she'd sent the divorce papers through his driver.

She was a hundred percent sure that the driver delivered her message.

Asher also turned around, facing Clyde.

One couldn't tell the expression on his face, but he suddenly laughed, shaking his head.

“Well, now that's an expensive prank.”

“It's not a joke.” Clyde maintained his stern gaze. “If you don't believe me, ask Violet.”

That she was his legal wife?

No way!

Violet was no longer his wife.

It had been five years… they were no longer a couple.

“Let's go, Asher.” She took Asher's hand, turning around to walk away,

However, Asher didn't budge.

He stared at her, his expression still unreadable.

While Violet stared back, pleading with her eyes.

She couldn't answer the question Clyde told him to ask her.

She didn't know what Clyde was up to.

To her relief, Asher didn't say anything.

Finally, he moved, following her into the Villa.

Violet could feel Clyde's gaze on her back.

His sharp eyes bore through her, spreading goosebumps across her skin.

Yet,

She didn't glance back, her attention fixed on Asher.

“You can't hide forever, Violet!” Clyde stated behind her, his words bringing a new kind of dread into her heart.

Still, Violet didn't look back.

She, in fact, picked up her pace, hurrying towards the Villa.

Asher's silence was unsettling.

He was very silent throughout.

Even after they got inside the Villa, he neither glanced at her nor spoke with her.

She couldn't read his expression,

Violet couldn't tell what he was thinking.

Did he believe Clyde's words?

Did he think he was lying?

What exactly was going on inside his mind?

If only Violet could pry open his mind and see for herself.

His thoughts.

Somehow, she dreaded whatever Asher was thinking.

It was her fault.

She should have told Asher long ago.

Violet never planned for him to find out this way.

“Mummy…” Mimi had been silent too, the little girl was probably shocked as well.

She finally shifted in Violet's arms and whispered, “So you're married to Daddy.”

Violet sighed.

Mimi must have sensed the tension between her and Asher. The reason why she was whispering.

Stroking her daughter's hair gently, Violet murmured, “You must be tired. Take a rest.”

She made her rest her head on her shoulder, patting her back.

When they stepped foot in the Villa, everyone was present in the living room.

They were all chatting happily.

The bodyguards must have told them the good news already.

“Mimi's back!”

“Oh my gosh, it's Mimi!”

“Thank goodness you're safe, Mimi!”

They all stroked Mimi's hair their expressions bright with happy smiles.

“Violet, hope you're feeling fine already.”

At Asher's mother's question, Violet forced a smile.

How could she be fine?

She was feeling worse with this foreboding feeling in her heart.

Violet had a feeling that very soon, their happy smiles could change into something else.

She looked at Asher,

But he avoided her gaze.

“Well, let's celebrate Mimi's return!” Someone suggested.

However, Mimi was already dozing off.

Her baby must be exhausted.

Before Violet declined, Asher beat her to it.

“It's late, Guys… Mimi needs to sleep.”

Violet watched him, a strange emotion filling up her heart.

If only she could read his mind to know what he was thinking.

“You're right, Ash.” His mother agreed, smiling from ear to ear. “Please put her to sleep.”

“You're still sick, Violet…” Asher's father added. “Get some rest.”

They bid everyone goodnight.

Violet proceeded upstairs with Asher.

Walking behind him, she couldn't take her eyes off his back.

The silence was killing Violet.

It brought an apprehension to her heart, heightening her worry.

Violet couldn't go on like this.

She had to speak with him.

She couldn't sleep on this issue without hearing what was in his mind.

Violet doubted she could even get any sleep.

So when they reached her bedroom's door, she paused and faced him.

“Ash-”

“Good night,” in a heavy tone, he murmured.

Asher didn't wait to hear what she wanted to say.

He didn't meet her gaze but turned around and left.

Violet blinked rapidly, her heart sinking.

Was this it?

Was this the end of her relationship with Asher?
