Chapter 25 His Gift
Violet couldn't look away despite wanting to.
Staring into Asher's expressionless eyes, if only she could get any reaction from him.
She went to see Clyde without Asher’s permission.
She'd planned to tell him first, but Asher seemed to be avoiding her after the incident last night.
Was he mad at her?
Why didn't his expression reveal that?
What exactly was he thinking at the moment?
Above all, Asher's impassive state scared her the most. Violet couldn't convince herself that he was okay with all that was happening.
She gulped, struggling to control her heartbeat.
Yet, suddenly, Asher held her hand, stroking her palm gently.
At that moment, all of Violet's fears and anxiety washed away, leaving in its wake a calm and peaceful mind.
Asher’s reassuring gesture only meant one thing.
Thank goodness he wasn't mad at her.
Violet looked away as the place sank into silence.
Something else had caught Mimi's attention outside and she had her eyes glued there.
After the long tiring ride, the helicopter finally landed at the top of MJ Corporation, Asher's family's company.
“Yay! We're finally back!” Mimi cheered, jumping in joy as they walked out of the helicopter.
She looked around, her eyes falling on Asher's assistant and other employees who were waiting for their arrival.
In their hands were gift boxes, their faces holding radiant smiles.
“Congratulations, Mr. Sydney.”
“Ms. Hayes, Congratulations on your engagement.”
“What a perfect couple you are.”
“How amazing that we finally got to see Ms. Hayes' face.”
“Indeed, she's a great beauty.”
“Oh, how cute you are, Little angel.”
“I heard her name's Mimi.”
“Oh my gosh, that's so sweet. I never knew Mr. Sydney had a secret daughter with Ms. Hayes already.”
“This cute girl sure looks a lot like her Mummy, but she got Mr. Sydney’s eyes.”
“Ah! This calls for a double celebration.”
The employees murmured among themselves as each came forward with a gift.
Violet blushed, glancing away.
If she knew they would be surrounded by so many people the moment they landed, she would have asked Asher to make other plans.
After a long time of not mingling with a lot of people, this kind of felt strange.
However, her daughter seemed to be the outgoing type.
She easily blended in with the employees, offering them hugs and kisses as they dropped the gift boxes.
“Awwn, our little boss is so generous.”
“Isn't she the cutest?”
“Of course, she must have taken after her beautiful Mummy.”
Hearing that, Asher cleared his throat. He'd been silent, watching everyone with a smile.
He didn't also clear the misunderstanding when the employees assumed he was Mimi's father.
“You mean I'm not generous and kind?” he addressed the employee who said the last statement.
The lady gasped and straightened up. “Ah, no, Mr. Sydney. Mimi must also have a generous mind just like her father.”
“You've been so kind to us.”
“You're the best boss.”
Asher chuckled, nodding to their compliments.
He appeared to have a warm relationship with his employees, unlike a particular someone whose employees trembled in his presence.
Violet found her mind wandering to Clyde again.
Just the thought of him made her shudder, and an uncomfortable feeling settled in her mind.
Why was she suddenly having this bad premonition?
“That's enough. Leave Mr. Sydney and his family alone. Go back to your work, Everyone.” Asher's assistant dismissed all the employees before ordering the bodyguards to take the gift boxes away.
Mimi whined seeing that. “Where're you taking them to? I wanna have mine now.”
“You can have them once we reach home.” Asher picked her up. “By the way, I've got a surprise for you and Mummy.”
“Oh, really, Uncle Ash?” Mimi's expression brightened.
Asher pinched her nose and nodded. “I'll take you somewhere amazing! You guys are gonna love it!”
“Can't wait! Can't wait! Let's go right now, Uncle Ash!”
Mimi tugged at his arm, pulling him to leave there immediately.
She was all enthusiastic about seeing the surprise Asher had for them, even momentarily forgetting about her Daddy.
However, Violet didn't have a great feeling about this surprise.
Where was Asher going to take them?
She held her hand, his touch snapping her out of her reverie.
With Mimi in his hand, he took them down the elevator that connected to the parking lot.
Now and then, Violet stole glances at him as the driver started the car.
But Asher was engrossed in chatting with Mimi who sat between them.
“Uncle Ash, that place you're gonna take us. Is Daddy also there?”
“Not really.”
“Well, can we see Daddy after visiting there?”
Asher didn't hesitate before nodding. “If your Daddy's willing to see us, of course.”
“Uncle Ash, don't worry. Daddy will definitely want to see us!”
Breathing out a soft sigh, Violet stared out of the window, admiring the scenery of the city.
She even pulled down the window to have a better view, something she'd dared not do before.
Well, the man she'd been running from had already found her.
What was the point in hiding behind tinted windows anyway?
The car took them not to her home, but down the opposite end of the city.
“That mall is so huge, Uncle Ash. Can we visit it sometime?”
“I'll bring you once I'm less busy.”
“Pinky promise?”
Asher continued chatting with Mimi, the duo leaving her out as if they'd forgotten about her existence in the car.
Violet focused on her thoughts, and also on the bad premonition rising in her heart.
The more they neared the residential area, the more her heart sank.
This area housed so many Villa estates and was popular for its expensive houses and top-notch luxury furniture.
Many affluent couples rushed to acquire one of the villas, especially the newlyweds.
It wasn't what she was thinking, right?
Was Asher buying her a house?
“We're gonna live here from now on,” Asher said after they arrived.
Violet hadn't gotten over her shock yet that the Villa he brought them was among the biggest in that area.
Hearing his statement, she spun around to face him, her heart skipped a beat.
“I've hired enough servants to take care of our daily needs.” Asher went on. “Mimi has her own Nanny. She'll be fully looked after whenever we're both busy.”
Screaming in excitement, Mimi wandered off, running upstairs to probably check out the rooms.
Violet hoped she wouldn't get lost.
This Villa was so huge.
She couldn't believe Asher bought this with his money.
She never thought he could be this extravagant and generous.
But…
“I know what you're thinking.” He took her hands in his, stroking the ring on her finger. “But now that we're officially engaged, don't you think that it's only right that we live together?”
