Chapter 24 Went To See Him
…
Violet stomped back to the Villa, her shoes digging into the sand, dragging her movement.
She didn't like the mischievous look on Clyde's face.
That heartless man was definitely up to something.
Only God knew how much courage she'd summoned to confront him.
She wasn't surprised by the shocked look on his face. She was just wary of the subtle smile that formed on his lips when she stated that request.
Clyde was now her enemy.
He insisted that she followed him.
He insisted that she was still his wife. Wasn't he going to blow her cover?
How was she gonna face her family when the news got out?
What would be their reaction?
Indeed, she wasn't going to like the outcome. Violet had a strong feeling about that.
And the last thing she wanted was to offend her family again, putting an end to their peace once more.
“Violet, where did you go?” Freya’s voice called out from a distance.
She stood in front of the large doors of the Villa, waving her hands. “You're up this early. What's up?”
The last person she expected to see waiting outside was her best friend.
Violet thought Asher would be there. But last night after Clyde walked in on them, he left her standing alone outside without a word.
“Come here, Vi.” Freya hurried to her and hugged her. “On this chilly morning, you're already outdoors. What's bothering you? Aren't I your bestie anymore? Why're both you and Asher being so secretive?”
Violet sighed.
She'd already made up her mind to tell her best friend everything.
Freya might be understanding enough to come up with a solution, unlike her family, who would only get mad at her. Well, she deserved it.
“Wait, Violet! You're kidding me right now, aren't you!”
Once inside her bedroom with Freya, Violet let it all out.
She expected this reaction from her but never expected Freya to go all berserk. “Vi, this is very bad! Why didn't you tell me earlier that Clyde is on this Island? That heartless man is definitely up to no good!”
Indeed.
Clyde’s appearance was like a curse.
Just when Violet thought things were going the way she planned.
“It's no wonder Mimi wouldn't shut up about finding her Daddy!” Freya cursed under her breath. “So she's got it right this time.”
Shutting her eyes, Violet breathed out an exasperated sigh.
If Mimi continued going around, telling everyone that she'd found her Daddy, it was only a matter of time before she introduced them all to Clyde.
No!
She had to find a way to stop that from happening.
“Violet, you need to leave this Island!” Freya spelled out her thoughts. “Spending another day here with Clyde and your family in the same place. No one can guarantee what will happen next.”
Violet nodded.
Warning Clyde to stay out of her way might only be a waste.
He wouldn't listen.
Sigh! The engagement.
Fiddling with the ring on her finger, Violet chewed her lips anxiously.
“Don't worry, Girl.” Freya sat beside her. “Clyde might be the cruelest villain in existence, but I don't think Asher will give up on you easily. Besides, we can always take him to court if he tries to make things difficult for you.”
But fighting against Clyde in court meant she had to get her family involved.
That might not be the best option at the moment.
Unless it became her last resort, taking Clyde to court would definitely not be too good for her.
Standing up, Violet walked inside the closet and began packing.
In ten minutes, she and Freya had already packed up everything.
“Where's Mimi, by the way?” Freya asked. “I hope she doesn't-”
A knock came on the door, interrupting Freya's statement.
Asher appeared, holding Mimi in his hands.
On the man's face was a blank look, while Mimi looked as if she'd just been bullied.
“Mummy! Uncle Ash’s bodyguards wouldn't let me go to Daddy. Tell him to let me go!”
“He has already left, Mimi,” Asher murmured. “Can't you see the helicopter is gone?”
Violet's eyes lit up.
Did Clyde really leave?
Did he grant her request then?
It was too good to be true though.
And when Asher secretly winked at her, Violet sighed inside in disappointment.
She had no choice but to act along. This must be the best way to distract Mimi.
“Well, he dropped his address.” She took the girl from Asher's hands. “So once we arrive at the city, we'll go visit him immediately.”
“Really?” Mimi gave her an inquisitive look. “Mummy, are you telling the truth?”
“Uhuh.” Freya chipped in. “We're all gonna set off right away to catch up with him!”
Mimi nodded.
Funny how the girl didn't look happy at all.
She was supposed to be jumping in joy, but she just stared at the adults as if something was amiss.
“It's okay, Mimi. We'll meet your Daddy soon, okay?” She patted her hair. “Mummy won't take you away from him.”
But first, Violet must leave this Island to avoid Clyde bumping into her parents.
“I believe you, Mummy.” Mimi pursed her lips. “I- I thought Daddy would wait for us. It's okay, Daddy loves running off. If I catch him next time, I won't let go!”
With a determined look on her face, Mimi clenched her fists.
Violet smiled despite the gloom filling up her heart.
Why did fate have to be so cruel?
Throwing a knowing look in Freya and Asher’s direction, they both nodded at the same time.
“I've already bid them goodbye. We’ll take off immediately.” Asher grabbed hers and Mimi's luggage then left.
“I'll join you guys soon.” Freya gave her a brief hug. “Take care, okay?”
“You too.” Violet returned the hug.
They bid everyone goodbye quickly, evading her parents’ and Asher's parents’ inquiries about why they were leaving the Island so suddenly.
Violet only sighed in relief when they were finally inside the helicopter and it rose high in the air.
As the Island got smaller below, she stared at that cabin.
“Mummy…” Mimi whispered in her ear. “You went to see Daddy this morning before he left, right? Was that why you weren't in bed?”
Violet held her breath.
Beside her, Asher who had been staring at his phone and was eerily quiet, stiffened up.
Instinctively, she glanced up and their eyes met.
