Chapter 28 Make Him The Happiest Person
…
At The Island
Clyde paced on the balcony, his gaze straying to the Villa far head.
Now and then, he'd check his wristwatch.
It was almost evening.
Violet was really something.
Didn't she promise she'd let him see his daughter?
Was that promise a lie?
Since morning, he'd been patiently waiting for her to appear with Mimi.
He'd respected her request of keeping a safe distance.
Although her request didn't make sense because he saw no reason why he shouldn't meet her family, he still respected it.
But now, it seemed like he would have no other option than to barge in on her in that Villa.
If it turned out that she lied, God helped him-
“Honey, you're still here?” A familiar voice called out from a distance.
Cora.
Why did she come back?
“Thank goodness! I thought you'd have traveled somewhere else.” She stopped in front of him, flashing him a smile. “So what happened after saving that stray kid? Did you find her parents?”
Stray kid?
Clyde didn't pay her attention until she mentioned that word.
He pinned her with a glare, accessing her from head to toe, scoffing at how provocatively she was dressed. “What do you want?”
Cora gasped.
She frowned a bit then pursed her lips. “Why're you staring as if you want to butcher me up? I came back for you, of course.”
She retained her smile and grabbed his arm. “Guess what! I just confirmed that Asher and his fiance have left the Island. The family is also about to leave, so it means we can have this Island all to ourselves. Asher won't mind.”
As she spoke, she pulled him inside the cabin.
Cora straightened up and threw both arms around his neck.
Staring at the man's handsome face, she couldn't control her heart from racing.
Cora couldn't believe she was in the same proximity with him again.
This Island was already empty with only she and him left on it.
What if?
What if…
“You mean they're gone?” Clyde wasn't pleased by what she said, and she wondered why.
His expression darkened, and he literally pushed her away.
What was wrong with him?
Retaining her smile, Cora stood up and approached him again. “It's okay, Sweetheart. Asher might not bid you goodbye, but maybe he left due to an emergency. How about we turn this visit into a vacation? I've already taken care of most of your work at the company.”
But Clyde didn't seem to be listening to her.
Consumed by rage, he kicked the chair standing in his way.
His clenched fists shook, his arm muscles tensing up. “How dare she?”
He mumbled those words under his breath, but Cora heard them loud and clear.
S-She?
Who did he mean?
Was he referring to-
No way!
Cora must be overthinking. Clyde didn't know Violet was on this Island.
He might be referring to someone else.
“Uhm, Honey.” She held his arm. “Did you hear what I said? This Island's peaceful and quiet-”
“Shut up! We're leaving immediately!”
His harsh command pierced her heart, breaking down her hope.
Cora yelped as he nudged her aside and grabbed his luggage.
It had been many years since she'd last seen him looking so angry.
Who offended him?
Clyde rarely rejected her advances outrightly.
Well now, he not only rejected her but also looked as if he'd kill her.
What the hell had happened to him?
She dared not say anything though.
Sighing in disappointment, Cora helped him pack his things inside the luggage.
Clyde was so focused and fast. The dark aura surrounding him was suffocating.
She dared not say anything.
Even after they left the Island, she dared not even sneeze as the helicopter rose high in the air.
Clyde jabbed at his phone, dialing a number.
Rage boiled inside him like lava, threatening to erupt.
So Violet tricked him.
That dumb woman had outsmarted him again.
Taking deep breaths couldn't calm his anger.
He was more mad at himself for believing her.
As the phone rang, he tapped his feet anxiously on the ground.
The moment the other person answered the call, he barked out instructions. “Find out where Asher Sydney lives.”
Then he hung up at the same time as the girl sitting beside him gasped.
Clyde frowned and glanced at Cora.
She stared at him as if she'd seen a ghost. Her lips parted and she blinked constantly.
“W- What do you want Asher's location for?” She stammered. “Is it the business collaboration?”
Who was Cora kidding?
She wasn't born yesterday.
It shouldn't be that Clyde found out.
It mustn't be!
Damnit! That wench! Didn't she warn her to stay away from her man?
Clyde didn't answer her question, but Cora already knew it.
What now?
After a lot of struggling, she would finally get a chance to become Mrs. Crawford.
No way would she allow any wench to take that position from her.
“Honey…” Shifting close to him, she dropped a palm on his lap. “Did you know what that designer said? My wedding dress is gonna cost a few millions. Since we're gonna have a low-key wedding, shouldn't we go for something cheaper?”
Cora held her breath, staring at him, anticipating his reply.
It was as if an eternity had passed by before he finally opened his mouth and grunted. “Do whatever you want.”
Cora smiled.
Giving her the go-ahead meant he was still interested in the wedding.
She sighed in relief and rested her head on his shoulder, giving him a side hug. “Remember I promised to stay with you forever. I'll take responsibility for what happened five years ago, Clyde. I'll make you the happiest person.”
