Too Late, Ex-husband

Chapter 29 Strike First
The happiest person?
Clyde was only going to be happy if he got what he wanted.
And if things went his way, Cora didn't have to sacrifice herself.
He closed his eyes as the helicopter took them out of the Island.
They arrived in the city at night.
Funny how he'd constantly come to this city for a business trip.
He couldn't believe that the woman he'd been searching for had always been here.
Cora had fallen asleep during the journey and when she woke up after they landed, she looked around dazedly.
“W- Where are we? Clyde, I thought we were going back to IvoryHills.”
Clyde ignored her question, walking away from the hotel's rooftop.
As Cora raced after him, he checked his wristwatch.
It was night already.
Although the city never sleeps, most of its inhabitants would have.
Clyde had waited for the other person's report.
But so far, he hadn't given him information regarding Asher's whereabouts.
The bodyguards had already taken his luggage to one of the VIP suites.
Clyde was ready to retire for the day, but Cora was getting annoying.
“Honey, you haven't answered any of my questions.” She stopped him in the hallway. “Why're we in this city instead of IvoryHills? What do you need Asher's address for?”
Was it necessary to tell Cora that he'd already found Violet?
Would he handle any more of her tantrums tonight?
Clyde was already having enough headaches, and Cora was giving him more.
Some of his anger had dissipated and he could think clearly.
Sighing, he held her shoulder while stroking her hair with the other hand. “Remember that car you've always wanted. I've had it delivered to your home at IvoryHills.”
Her eyes lit up and her lips parted. “You don't mean it!”
“I'm not kidding,” he murmured. “Unless you don't want it anymore-”
“I do! I do! I love it, Honey!” She hugged him tight, squealing in excitement. “Can't wait to see it tomorrow. You're the best!!!”
Clyde patted her back.
Now he had to have that car delivered tonight. “It's getting late. Go to sleep.”
But Cora clung to him like a koala baby. Eyes shining with excitement, she flashed him her brightest smile. “We can share the hotel suite the way we did at the Island.”
Well, there was only a single cabin left on the Island.
Not now though.
“There are several VIP suites you can choose from. Make yourself comfortable.” He let go of her and then entered his suite.
Cora stood outside the door.
With his presence gone, it suddenly felt as if she was dipped in ice water.
Was Clyde avoiding her intentionally?
What happened?
What changed?
Her fingers dug into her palms and she gritted her teeth.
Did she even need to ask?
Violet's appearance again had already started changing things the way it did many years ago.
The title of Mrs. Crawford was rightfully hers in the first place. But a strange girl from nowhere had to come and snatch it.
Would Cora allow the same thing to happen again?
Wasn't she going to be a fool twice if she let that damned useless girl snatch her man again?
Fumming, She entered the opposite suite and slammed the door.
Cora paced back and forth for a while.
Clyde was already devising ways to send her back.
The hell she was returning to IvoryHills to take a look at some damned car!
How would she be able to enjoy the luxury or have peace of mind when Violet was back in the picture?
She grew up together with Clyde?
She knew him more than anybody else.
She deserved him more.
If her hard work wasn't enough to get her Mrs. Crawford's position, then she'd do anything.
“Hmph!” Cora dug into her purse for her mobile phone.
Once she brought it out, she tossed the purse aside.
It had been long since she last communicated with him. But it seemed she would have to let go of her sanity if needed.
“Urgh! I must be dreaming. To what do I owe this honor?” A deep tired voice belonging to a man sounded through the phone.
Cora rolled her eyes. “Herman, there's something we need to discuss.”
The shuffling sounds of fabrics came next, halting the moans in the background. “Lemme guess… you're agreeing to my offer.”
Cora sighed.
Clyde was going to kill her for this.
Well, she would die either way if she didn't get him in the end.
“I heard you're out of the city…” Herman added. “When will you come back to IvoryHills?”
“Tomorrow,” Cora murmured.
Then she hung up, detesting the next words that would come out of his mouth.
She tossed her phone on the bed and sat down, breathing out a heavy sigh.
For real this time, Violet Harris was never going to escape her clutches.
Cora couldn't wait for an opportunity the way she did five years ago.
She'd been lucky once,
But she wasn't sure if she was going to get lucky again.
This time, she had to strike first and fast!
… The Next Morning …
Clyde woke up to the sound of his phone ringing.
As expected, the call he had been anticipating since last night finally came in.
He'd planned to fire the guy anyway if he didn't give him a reply this morning, and then hire someone more competent.
“Mr. Crawford, I have tracked his location. Continental Villa Estates is only new, but Mr. Sydney has already acquired a Villa in it.”
Continental Villa Estates.
It was the most expensive chain of Villa estates, and a lot of businessmen were struggling to buy some shares.
“Not bad.” Clyde hung up.
He left the bed and pulled the curtains apart, letting the bright morning light flood into the room.
He took his time to admire the view before dialing a number in his phone.
At the third ring, the other person answered the phone, probably after a lot of hesitation.
“Asher Sydney.”
“Clyde Crawford.”
Clyde smiled at the way he spelled out his name so confidently. “I already know that you took my family to Continental Villa Estates.”
Asher was silent from the other end before he laughed softly. “I also know that you retrieved that database.”
“So?”
“Violet Harris is now my fiance. She still has a choice to be with whomever her heart desires.”
Asher’s statement incited laughter from him.
Clyde couldn't believe he was trading words with the man instead of exchanging fists.
Who cared whether Violet chose him or not?
She was his wife! His responsibility.
“Very well, then. Don't say I didn't warn you, Mr. Sydney.”
“Likewise, Mr. Crawford.”
