Chapter 32 Her doppelganger

Violet's expression darkened, his words hitting the right spot directly.

She struggled to keep in her rage, controlling herself from yelling. “That's very interesting coming from someone who never wanted her in the first place.”

Surprised at the calmness in her tone, Violet smiled when Clyde's scoff sounded.

Wasn't he shameless for saying that?

If his medications had worked on her, would her baby even be in existence?

What right did he have to question her about Mimi's safety?

“Whatever you say, Violet Harris…” The man grumbled in a disapproving tone. “Just so you know, I won't allow the same thing to happen again. My daughter stays with me from now on.”

The heck!

Clyde hung up immediately after saying that.

He had to be kidding!

No way!

There was no way he would just take Mimi from her.

She dialed that number again, but he didn't answer the call.

Violet was almost consumed with anxiety, afraid that the heartless man meant what he said.

When she tried the second time, however, he answered the phone. “What the hell do you want, Clyde!”

“You.” He chuckled. “I want my family, Violet.”

His family.

He said it with so much endearment as if he cared.

As if he wanted that family in the first place.

Violet would never forget his betrayal.

She would never forget that conversation she'd overheard him having with his mistress, Cora.

She took in a deep breath, stopping herself from erupting.

Trying to sound as calm as possible, she feigned indifference. “Just tell me what you want. I want my baby back home in the next thirty minutes.”

“Oh, you can come pick her up yourself…” He drawled. “Golden Mall. How about you join us there?”

The Golden Mall.

Was that where he took Mimi?

To do what exactly?

Violet could remember that mall because they drove past it yesterday.

Mimi even had Asher promise to bring her when he was free.

Urgh!

Violet rolled her eyes, realizing that Clyde had hung up the phone again.

Without wasting a second, she grabbed her handbag and shoved her phone inside it.

Then she grabbed her shoes from a corner and slipped them on.

There wasn't any driver in the house or an extra car to take her out.

The neighborhood was so empty that Violet took fifteen minutes before she luckily found a cab.

Damn!

Glancing at her wristwatch, she tapped her feet in anxiousness as the car drove her out of the neighborhood.

Hopefully, they were in that mall as Clyde said.

The last thing she wanted was to have that cunning man play tricks on her.

When the car pulled over, she literally jumped out and rushed inside the mall.

A large man dressed in a security uniform stopped her at the door, giving her a huge frown. “Miss, I hope you know where you're going.”

Like seriously?

Violet had to glance twice at the huge banner outside the mall.

Of course, she was in the right place. What's with the security man's attitude?

Ignoring him, she walked past and entered the mall.

A place as huge as this one was supposed to be filled to the brim with customers, however, it was so quiet and almost empty like a library.

Glancing around in confusion, Violet's eyes searched through the small crowd for signs of either Clyde or her baby.

“How may I help you, Miss?” A sales lady approached, frowning. “I hope you have a membership card.”

For what?

Was this one of the shopping malls where one needed to register first before coming to shop?

Did such malls even exist in this city?

“Uhm, Miss…” the lady's frown transformed into a condescending scowl, probably sensing her confusion.

She accessed Violet from head to toe and then clicked her tongue. “Our products here are top-notch and limited edition. Only the affluent socialites and customers with a membership card are allowed in here. If you're looking to shop, there's actually a public mall down the street.”

Violet shook her head.

It was no wonder the security man gave her that attitude.

“Unfortunately, I'm not here to shop.” She went to the point, her eyes scanning the crowd. “I'm looking for someone.”

“Oh, are you sure?” The sales lady didn't seem to believe her.

In fact, she grew more apprehensive and instantly blocked Violet's path. “Security! What were you doing that this lady entered here without inspection?”

She didn't only get the security man's attention but also the attention of the few people going through the racks of clothing.

Great!

Just great!

The last thing Violet wanted was to be the center of gossip.

She couldn't even recall the last time she'd attracted so much attention.

“Although this lady is beautiful, she doesn't seem to belong here. Is she here to steal?”

“Wasn't it just yesterday that a lady disguised herself as a heiress and came here to swindle our most valuable jewelry?”

“Tsk! These young ladies are so greedy nowadays. They'll do anything for attention and fame.”

“This place needs more security.”

The people gathered around, speaking loudly as they all gave her disgusted looks.

Violet fought the urge to roll her eyes.

Seriously, she could just wait outside for that heartless man instead of facing this embarrassment.

And why the hell did Clyde not tell her that she needed a membership card?

Right!

She wouldn't even be surprised if Clyde was the person who set up this humiliation party for her.

When the security men arrived, they didn't wait for any command before seizing her. “I knew you weren't here for good,” the first man said. “Young lady, follow us for investigation.”

Just like that?

Violet couldn't pinpoint what was happening.

Why were these people being too wary and aggressive?

Was this really a set-up or what?

“Mister, if you suspect me of any crime, this isn't the right way to handle it. Besides, I didn't touch anything.”

“But you're about to,” He replied. “You look similar to that lady who tried to steal from us. Are you her accomplice?”

“Right! This young lady and that thief look alike.”

“It shouldn't be a coincidence.”

“She must be her sister.”

“Damnit! That lady ran off by luck yesterday, but we're not gonna let this one go until she tells us her whereabouts.”

The sales ladies looked serious as they spoke,

And some of the customers even looked angry.

This wasn't an act, was it?

Were they kidding?

Violet didn't even have a sister, why would there be someone who looked exactly like her?

Was this part of her bad luck or what?

“What are you waiting for!?” One of the sales ladies shouted. “Take her away before she escapes!”
