Chapter 36 A Coincidence

At The Amusement Park.

Violet panted heavily, holding her knees as she struggled to catch her breath.

Mimi had run off again, and it was so difficult to catch up with her.

Well, she gave up!

The workers were by her side, protecting her anyway as she jumped from one fun ride to another.

But actually,

Mimi wasn't the only person she wanted to catch up with.

If only she could get close to Clyde and drag him to a corner, then she was going to give him a piece of her mind.

Yet, ever since they arrived at the Amusement Park, the man seemed to be avoiding her intentionally.

He was either making a phone call or having fun with Mimi.

To say that the duo had left her out was an understatement. Violet felt like a complete stranger, standing in the middle of nowhere.

Urgh!

Groaning in frustration, she let go of the idea of chasing after them and dragged her feet to the carousel ride.

As she sat on one of the horse statues, her breathing gradually turned to normal and she watched them from afar.

Mimi was having fun.

It showed in her radiant smile and excited giggles.

Had her baby ever looked this happy before?

Violet couldn't recall the event. Even on her birthdays, she would sometimes be half gloomy, wishing her Daddy would be there like other kids’ parents.

Violet sighed, staring at the two figures in a daze.

The mighty man, who looked completely out of this place, carried the little bubbly girl on his shoulders.

He rarely smiled, however, both his teeth were now showing.

If Clyde was so good with children, why didn't he want one in the first place?

Right!

Violet had almost forgotten.

It wasn't that Clyde didn't want any children.

He just didn't want one with her. Which made it puzzling that he was treating Mimi well despite that.

“Ma’am, Mr. Crawford asked me to give you this.” One of the workers walked up to her with a strawberry-flavored ice cream.

The jumbo-sized cream sitting on its huge cone had her mouth watering, and the savory flavor beckoning to her.

“No.” Violet's hand halted mid-air as she was about to take the ice cream.

Was she supposed to take anything offered by Clyde?

Definitely, no!

He avoided her all day, and now he was offering her ice cream.

Clyde only wanted to have things go his way. Well, that was impossible.

The staff walked away after she rejected the ice cream.

Violet sighed in disappointment.

She would have really loved to have it, at least to curb the hunger in her stomach.

All thanks to Clyde, who had sabotaged her peaceful morning and taken her daughter away. She didn't have breakfast, and it was almost launch time.

“Bored?” The familiar voice sounded behind her, almost whispering in her ear.

Violet frowned.

She'd got to be imagining things.

But then, he tapped her from behind and she turned around with a gasp, almost falling off the horse.

What now?

Violet's lip parted in shock, confused as well as wary.

What was Asher doing here?

Was it just a coincidence?

“You came to have fun without me, Vi.” He gave her a playful flick. “Isn't that unfair?”

Violet's eyes fell on his clothes.

Instead of the business suit he left home with this morning, he was now dressed in a casual outfit.

She must be imagining things.

“Where's Mimi?” Asher broke his gaze from her, and glanced around the place, looking confused. “Hope you didn't let her out of your sight.”

Oh, Mimi…

Ah, Mimi!

Violet's senses instantly became alarmed as Asher mentioned her baby's name.

Damnit!

Clyde was also here.

How was she gonna explain it to Asher?

What if he misunderstood?

“Are you alright?” Worry flashed in his eyes and he reached out to touch her cheek. “You don't look good.”

That's right.

She didn't have a good feeling about what might happen next. It must have shown on her face.

Clearing her throat, Violet forced a smile and answered his question. “Mimi's nearby with one of the workers.”

“Really-”

“Are you hungry?” Violet cut him off, jumping down from the moving Carousel.

Her anxious action almost got her wounded as she tripped the moment her feet touched the ground.

Thank goodness Asher caught her immediately, saving her from the embarrassment.

“Hey, be careful…” He said gently, snaking one arm around her waist to hold her steadily, while his other hand held one of her hands.

His face was so close that Violet could feel his breath fanning her face.

The awkward position made her blush, and she tried to stand straight. “I- I'm fine. Thank you.”

Yet, dizziness hit her head when she attempted to move.

She must have been so exhausted and famished.

Now she couldn't even feel her legs.

And the man holding her didn't let go. His hold became tighter, in fact, and a subtle smile formed on his lips. “You look beautiful when you blush.”

Violet's heart raced, hearing his words.

She couldn't avoid eye contact and the smile inside his eyes was contagious.

Heck! What was happening?

“Wifey! Are you having fun!?”

The sarcastic voice, deep and full of irritation broke through the awkward silence.

Violet gulped, quickly returning to her senses.

Clyde appeared, holding Mimi, storm dancing in his eyes as if he'd shred them apart.

Wifey!

Why did he call her that?

It seemed Clyde was intentionally finding trouble.

Strange how Asher didn't seem to mind though.

He let go of her, helping her to stand on her feet before facing the grumpy man. “Mr. Crawford, what a coincidence. How did you find our baby?”

Asher’s sarcastic side was even more scary.

If Violet was him, would she have offended Clyde this way by saying that?

No doubt, those words hit the right spot. Clyde’s face hardened, his eyes frosting over. “She is not your daughter.”

“Violet is not your wife!” Asher retorted.
