Chapter 37 His Whole World

Tension filled the air, and a deep silence fell across the place.

As if time had stopped, the men went into a glaring battle, each throwing daggers with their eyes.

Staring back and forth from one man to another, Violet sighed exasperatedly.

They weren't about to get into a fight, were they?

Well, she wouldn't be surprised if they did. The desire to tear each other apart was evident in their eyes.

The unspoken tension was louder than the fiercest scream.

“Daddy…” Mimi shifted in Clyde's arms, the little girl obviously unaware of the tension between both men.

Her interruption came in handy as both men instantly retained their normal expressions.

“Since Uncle Ash is here, why don't we have fun together? Uhm, Daddy, I'm also hungry.”

“Mm. We'll go to the nearest restaurant outside the Park,” Clyde suggested, offering her a smile and patting her head.

Violet didn't like that idea.

What if Clyde left the amusement park with her baby and never came back?

She couldn't just follow them when Asher was here.

“Actually, I'm hungry too, Baby.” Violet used the opportunity to snatch Mimi from Clyde's arms. “There's a fast food spot nearby that sells the best noodles in town.”

“For real?” Mimi's eyes sparkled with joy.

Violet nodded although she wasn't so sure about that.

But on their way here, she'd sighted the fast food stand and the aroma was tempting.

The noodles had to taste great.

“It's on me,” Asher offered. “Let's take you to eat the best noodles.”

He ruffled up Mimi's hair and they were about to leave.

Violet didn't dare to glance in Clyde's direction.

His deep gaze bore a hole through her back and she could feel him glaring at her.

Well, great riddance.

She could just use this chance to ditch him and leave the amusement park with Asher.

“Daddy's coming too!” Mimi declared. “Daddy, do you wanna taste the best noodles in town?”

Clyde’s face contorted. “That's unhealthy, Baby.”

“Mummy says it's the best.” Mimi disagreed. “Please come with us, Daddy. I promise you'll love it.”

Seriously, there was no way Clyde was going to follow them.

Mimi was just wasting her time.

Violet smiled inside, finding this as the perfect opportunity to get the man off their backs.

The day Clyde ate food from a public place, especially fast food, that day might be the end of the world.

Even the Chefs who cooked his food were carefully handpicked by the family's Butler.

He would only eat outside if it was very necessary. No matter how hungry he was, he'd rather eat at a five-star restaurant.

Holding back her smile, Violet pinched the girl's nose. “You can't force people to eat with you. Actually, everyone has their preferences.”

Mimi pursed her lips, disappointed. But then, she gave in again. “We'll be back in a jiffy, Daddy. Please don't run off, okay? Remember we have to ride the roller coaster and visit the hunted house.”

Well, that wasn't going to happen.

As soon as they were done eating, Violet would make sure they snuck out of the amusement park without Clyde or his bodyguards noticing.

But her hope was far-fetched.

“Wait up.” Clyde stopped them as they walked away.

The way Violet snatched Mimi from his arms, he snatched her back, giving her a pointed look. “I didn't say I won't join you guys. Besides, Mimi's preference is mine.”

Violet gasped.

Damnit it!

He didn't mean what he just said, did he?

She exchanged glances with Asher whose smile had faded.

This was bad.

Having these men in the same place would definitely not be good for her.

Mimi was the happiest, and she hugged Clyde's neck. “I know my Daddy loves me the most. You're gonna love the noodles, pinky promise.”

“I sure will.” Clyde chuckled.

Violet had no choice but to lead the way.

Her heart sinking in disappointment, she walked side by side with Asher who wasn't so enthusiastic either.

But behind them, the father and daughter chatted cheerfully.

“Daddy, did you know that Mummy loves noodles?”

“I do.” His deep gaze on her back made Violet’s hair stand on end. “I used to be the best noodles Chef in the universe.”

“Wow! That's amazing!” Mimi exclaimed. “How many people love your noodles, Daddy?”

“Just your Mummy.”

“Really?”

“Mm.”

“Why don't others love it?”

“Because they never got to taste it.”

Violet squeezed her eyes shut, wishing she could just disappear.

Their conversation brought back one of the memories she'd almost forgotten.

She couldn't believe Clyde still remembered it.

Those late-night snacks. His special noodles recipe, and her eagerness for more.

She sighed.

What's the point in recalling that memory when it was nothing but a lie?

All his good treatment towards her wasn't genuinely from his heart.

Those memories weren't worth recalling.

“You must have loved Mummy so much, Daddy.”

Mimi's excited tone as she spoke brought a slight numbing ache to Violet's heart.

Clyde never loved her.

Was he going to lie to Mimi that he did?

“No…” despite hoping that to be his response, Violet didn't expect he'd admit the truth.

Mimi's sadness was evident in her tone as she mumbled, “You didn't love my Mummy?”

“I didn't just love her. She was my whole world.”

Liar!

How Violet wanted to scream that word in his face.

But it was already awkward that they were having this kind of conversation in Asher's presence. She couldn't make things seem weirder.

Violet picked up her space, hoping she would no longer hear them.

If only they could get to the noodles spot as soon as possible. The place was still a few distance from them, and her baby's conversation with Clyde was killing her.

“Slow down.” Asher caught up with her. Holding her hand, he offered her the gentlest smile. “If you're not comfortable here, we can go home.”

If only Violet could do that.

Mimi would never allow her.

Why didn't Asher seem affected by the conversation by the way?

It was as if he didn't hear Clyde say those words.
