Too Late, Ex-husband

Chapter 44 Ultimate Danger
Nobody leaves?
Asher had only told her that he'd tightened the Villa’s security so Clyde couldn't barge in on them like yesterday.
He didn't tell her not to leave this Villa.
Besides, this was a critical moment.
“Are you crazy!?” Freya said the same words in her mind.
Violet couldn't believe the bodyguards. Were they even supposed to say that at this moment?
“Ma’am, we're only following instructions.” The second bodyguard didn't bat an eye. “Please don't blame us.”
“Well, don't worry, Ma’am.” The maid chipped in, her hands shaky as she fetched water in a bowl from the bathroom. “W- We will be able to revive her. The little Miss has only fainted.”
She sprinkled water on her face and then wiped her face with some of it.
None of the methods worked.
Violet got to her feet, hugging her baby. “Just go and get the driver! If anything happens to her, I'll hold you both accountable.”
But more than anybody else, Violet was at fault.
She couldn't deny that.
If she hadn't given Mimi a hard time despite knowing her health condition, this wouldn't have happened.
She'd let her anxiety get the best of her. Wasn't she a horrible mother?
“Ma’am, please don't be mad. You can give Mr. Sydney a call. If he agrees, then-”
“Shut it!” Throwing him a glare, Freya brought her phone out.
She dialed Asher’s contact, and the phone rang for a while.
Wasn't it ridiculous that they needed Asher's permission first when her baby's life was on the line?
Asher could be busy or even be attending a meeting at the moment.
“Just let us out of this damned place before you both lose your jobs!” Freya screamed at the bodyguards. “As you can see, Ash is not close to his phone!”
“Ma’am, please understand us.”
“We're only following instructions.”
The bodyguards looked unapologetically calm.
They both stood by the door, blocking their paths even.
Freya had to keep dialing, ignoring the stubborn guards, while Violet muttered every word of prayer she could, wishing her baby was safe.
Finally, Asher answered his phone.
Freya explained everything to him, but the first thing he asked was, “Are you sure she's not pretending? Mimi's very smart, you know!”
“Ash! The heck!” Freya exclaimed. “No matter how smart she is, we're all adults. This is not a plaything.”
“Well, I can ask the doctor to come over,” Asher replied. “It's easier, and-”
“But, Ash!” Freya cut him. “How long is it gonna take him-”
“Freya, I'm busy. Mimi will be fine, okay? Tell Violet not to worry.”
Asher hung up.
Violet couldn't believe what she was hearing.
If Asher was probably here, he would see that none of them were kidding, and her baby's situation wasn't a joke.
Well, she wasn't going to wait for any doctor to appear.
Who knew from what distance he was coming?
Who knew if he might even make it here in the next twenty minutes?
“Out of my way right now!” She stated coldly, sending a chilly gaze in the bodyguards’ direction. “Let me out or not, you'll lose your jobs either way. I'll make sure of that.”
“B- But, Ma’am-”
The bodyguards exchanged glances, their calm demeanor faltering.
“You heard her, right?” Freya backed her up. “She's the mistress of this home. How dare you defy her orders?”
“But Mr. Sydney says he'll summon the doctor-”
“To hell with that!” Freya rolled her eyes. “Your Boss listens to her, and she can decide if you keep this job or not!”
The bodyguards shifted uncomfortably.
Hesitantly, they moved out of the way.
Violet didn't waste any second. She rushed out of the room, hurrying downstairs as fast as her legs could carry her.
“Slow down, Vi,” Freya called out and hurried after her.
Well, Violet couldn't stop.
They had to get to the hospital as soon as possible.
The fear was overwhelming.
She was running out of breath.
She had to remain calm, but her nerves weren't cooperating with her.
Again, no extra car was in the Villa. Violet stood outside in confusion until Freya caught up with her.
“Get a hold of yourself, Vi…” She took Mimi from her hands, staring at her frightfully. “We'll take my car.”
Right!
She'd almost forgotten that Freya came with her own car.
Violet couldn't wait to get to the hospital. This neighborhood was quite new, and they couldn't locate any clinic nearby.
“Violet, just relax…” Freya glanced sideways at her now and then as she raced the car out of the neighborhood. “See, we're almost there. Calm down, okay?”
“I- I'm calm,” Violet stuttered. Yet, the sound of her voice gave her out.
She couldn't control it.
Her body trembled and her anxiety only got bigger.
The fifteen-minute ride to the hospital took forever.
With the help of the hospital staff, they wheeled her baby to the emergency room.
Violet walked back and forth outside, including Freya who kept on instructing her to calm down. “She is safe now, Vi. Please have a seat.”
Why was she always careless when it came to her baby?
She'd almost lost her on the Island.
Was she about to do the same?
Would she not learn her lesson until it was too late?
“Please sit down, Violet… This isn't good for your health.” Freya even grabbed her shoulders to stop her from pacing back and forth.
Well, her body was out of control.
How could she stay still when her baby was still inside there?
“Urgh, Violet!” Freya was beginning to get irritated. But then, her eyes lit up as the doors to the emergency room opened and a Doctor came out.
Both Violet and Freya rushed over. “How's she, Doc?”
“If you've brought her any minute later, Young Lady, your child's life would have fallen into ultimate danger.”
The doctor's words stunned her.
Violet stilled, her heartbeat stopping for a second.
But her baby's life was luckily out of danger with the doctor’s intervention.
However, what if they'd come a minute late?
“Now answer my question, Violet Harris.” Another Doctor came out of the emergency room, giving her a cold look as if he'd skin her alive. “Whose custody does she deserve better? Mine or yours?”
