Chapter 65 The Future Mistress

The Next Morning.

Violet woke up to an empty bed.

She wasn't even surprised that Mimi was awake already and had wandered off this early.

She sat up on the bed, stretching her arm.

But wait…

Something didn't seem right.

Last night, she'd been so overwhelmed with exhaustion that she went to sleep without minding her aching feet.

It was so sore that the pain spread through her legs.

But now, the pain was gone.

The soreness of her feet was gone as well.

Strange.

She'd been walking around barefoot, and she even feared that she would find tiny bruises on them this morning.

Letting go of the confusing thoughts, Violet left the bed and washed up in the bathroom.

She changed into a dress better than what she wore yesterday to spite Clyde's family.

Well, now that she'd agreed to stay here, she would have to dress and behave according to the family's rules.

Scratch that!

Pleasing Clyde or his family wasn't on her list.

If he could sign the divorce before the one month was exhausted, she'd be the happiest person.

Violet changed into a simple floral dress. Instead of styling her hair, she let it flow on her shoulders.

She went for light makeup as well, and the only jewelry on her was her engagement ring.

“Good morning, Young Miss- oh, my goodness, what are you wearing?”

As Violet stepped out of the room, she walked into the Butler who looked as if he'd seen a ghost.

The man rubbed his eyes, then he stared at her from head to toe. “Y- Young Miss… A- Are the rumors true?”

The rumors that she'd gone crazy?

That she'd just been released from a mental hospital?

Violet almost laughed at the man's expression.

Of course, everyone would expect her to wear tight and expensive dresses paired with heavy jewelry and make-up.

Every day in the Crawford Household was a hassle.

Every day, one had to dress up and be neat and flawless. Not even a strand of hair should be out of place.

Well, Violet wasn't going back to living such a hectic lifestyle. She had only abided by those rules before in order to please Clyde and make his family happy.

Disregarding the Butler's question, she asked, “Have you seen Mimi?”

The middle-aged man's shock gave way to a happy look at the mention of Mimi's name.

He nodded rapidly, his face beaming with a smile. “You did a great job raising such a smart and cheerful kid. She has won all the servants’ hearts, Young Miss.”

Mimi had the charm of winning everyone's hearts.

Of course, she got that quality from Violet which she couldn't help but be proud of.

“Well, breakfast is ready. I'm here to wake you and the Young Master up, but I heard from a maid that he has gone to visit his grandfather.”

Oh, so Clyde wouldn't be present for breakfast.

Should Violet feel intimidated to sit with his parents when he wasn't present?

His mother might try to bully her the way she'd always done.

The couple always treated her worse especially if Clyde wasn't present.

“You don't have to go, Young Miss. I can tell Master and Madam that you're sick and have your breakfast sent here,” The Butler suggested kindly.

After all, he'd made similar excuses for her in the past.

Violet smiled.

It wasn't like she was still afraid of the couple.

Besides, her baby must be with them. She had to be present.

So she thanked the Butler but turned down his offer.

Violet followed the man to the dining room.

Behold, Becca was scolding a maid.

“How dare you give that to her? Are you tired of living? What if the soup has spilled on my granddaughter, will you be willing to compensate with your life!?”

The maid knelt in front of her, her shoulders trembling as she sobbed.

“Grandma, please don't be mad. I wanted Ava to teach me how to cook.” Mimi tugged at the woman's hand. “Please stop bullying her, Grandma.”

“I'm not bullying her, Dear. I'm only teaching her a lesson.” Becca appeared oddly soft and nice when she spoke with Mimi. “Allow Grandma to correct her so she won't repeat it next time.”

The maid sobbed rapidly.

She crawled on her knees, touching the woman's feet. “I- I just got this job back. Please don't fire me, M-Madam.”

Becca kicked her hands off and sat on her chair. “I won't fire you, but you'll sweep the whole mansion. Finish it before the evening, or you'll lose your job for real.”

“I- I will! Th- Thank you! Thank you so much, Madam!” The young maid scurried to her feet and hurried off, probably to start sweeping.

Wasn't she the same maid Clyde had fired yesterday?

That heartless man must have spared her after coming to realize the truth.

Well, that was useless because his mother was about to kill the poor girl.

How would she be able to sweep the whole mansion alone? Would that girl even be alive before the evening?

Honestly, Violet couldn't stand by and watch this cruelty go on.

She turned to the Butler who stood beside her with a helpless look on his face.

“Mr. Jeff, please tell that maid not to do that work. My orders.”

Violet's voice was loud and clear, enough for everyone sitting in the dining room to hear.

“B- But, Young Miss-”

“Just do it.” She interrupted the Butler, signaling him to leave.

The man knew better to go quickly before Becca could stop him.

The woman must be too shocked to react at first.

She just stared at Violet, her expression turning sour. “You filthy girl, are you drunk this morning? How dare you meddle in my affairs with my servants?”

“Our servants, you mean…” Violet pulled out a chair across from the woman and sat down, crossing her legs. “Mrs. Crawford, you do know that I'm the future mistress of this household, right?”
