Chapter 67 Defend Her
~
The bowl of soup Becca had aimed at her ended up being thrown at her own husband.
Violet couldn't believe the woman.
The dining room was suddenly a mess with all the dishes sprayed with the soup.
“I can see you've grown wings since you came back!” Becca shouted. “How dare you think you can challenge me!?”
“Your authority in this house will only last for a few more years.” Violet wasn't cowering or giving in to her intimidation. “Why don't you get off your high horse so this place can have peace?”
Honestly, she could no longer tolerate the woman's bullying.
Just because she thought she was from a poor family, Becca treated her like trash.
What if she discovered Violet was actually from a rich background? Would she have treated her differently? Wasn't that hypocritical?
The bowl of soup didn't hit her, but the soup had stained her dress.
Violet stood up, completely losing her appetite,
However, Becca wasn't ready to let her go yet.
“I will teach you not to disrespect me next time. I own all the servants in this house, and you have no right to interfere.”
She didn't pay attention to her husband who had been hit by the bowl.
Becca was jumping and screaming as she sent one of the servants to summon the bodyguards. “Let's see if you'll cross me again after today. Someone get me a cane!”
The bodyguards arrived in no time.
Before Violet could think about leaving, she was suddenly surrounded.
“Grab that girl so I can beat some senses into her!” Becca commanded.
She snatched the cane from the servant and marched forward while the bodyguards seized her.
Violet wasn't a fool to just stand there.
She wriggled her hands and stomped on the bodyguards’ feet. However, they didn't budge.
The bodyguards held her firmly instead, inserting pressure on her arms.
“M- Madam, please think about it. She's your daughter-in-law.” The Butler rushed back to intervene. “What if the Young Miss-”
“Shut up! She now thinks she's equal to me! After I disfigure her face, we'll see who's the boss here!”
Becca lashed her with the cane once.
The pain was so unbearable, splitting the skin of her arm.
The woman lashed her two more times. Violet couldn't take the pain anymore. She wriggled to break free, screaming and kicking.
“It hurts, doesn't it!?” Becca laughed like a maniac. “This is how it should be, Filthy Girl! You're my daughter-in-law and you must obey me-”
“Mum, what are you doing!?”
Clyde came too late because the damage was already done.
Violet couldn't even feel the skin of her arm except for the burning pain.
When the bodyguards let go of her, she couldn't remain on her feet either, and she fell on the floor, wincing from the sharp pain.
“What have you done, Mum!?” Clyde sounded frustrated. “Did Violet offend you?”
He came forward to pick her up.
Seriously, Violet wanted to disappear.
She just wanted to get out of this damned place.
Nobody expected Becca to suddenly burst into sobs. The woman wasn't only heartless but also hypocritic.
“Why shouldn't I punish her when she almost killed your father!? She threw the pot of soup at him and then insulted him. Can't you see what she's wearing? I think Violet is only back to give me a heart attack!”
The woman twisted the whole story without batting an eye.
Violet couldn't close her mouth. She couldn't help but chuckle, shaking her head in disbelief.
“You can ask your father if you don't believe me!” Becca added. “Can't you see how he looks? Would I have thrown soup at my own husband!?”
“Son, I want you to send this girl away immediately!” His father wiped his face with a hankie.
It wasn't a surprise that the man would back up his wife. “If she thinks she can humiliate us in front of the servants, imagine what other things she'll be capable of.”
“Father-in-law, I didn't expect even you would lie.” Violet scoffed. “Isn't that more humiliating-”
“That's enough.” Clyde threw her an angry look.
Violet shouldn't be surprised.
He would definitely take his parents’ side.
She didn't know why she was even wasting her time.
“Mimi actually told me everything. You weren't supposed to meddle when Mum was scolding the maid.”
Oh, really?
Violet didn't hide her disappointment.
Hoping that Clyde might defend her when his mother bullied her was a past wish.
Clearly, everyone knew Becca was lying. Even the Butter who witnessed everything.
But nobody dared to speak the truth.
“If maltreating servants and upholding injustice is the norm of this household, how disappointing.” She shook her head then left.
Violet wasn't going to spend another day here.
Thank goodness staying here wasn't a part of their agreement.
She couldn't survive a day around her in-laws anyway.
Turned out, a lot of things would never change.
“What are you doing?” Clyde joined her in the room twenty minutes later.
Violet had changed into new clothes after wiping off the soup.
Clothes that were more comfortable and relaxing.
“And what the hell are you wearing now, Violet?”
Ignoring his question, Violet rubbed some ointment on her wound.
Damn! It hurt.
“Violet-”
“Where's Mimi?” She asked.
His heavy sigh resounded before he replied, “I left her with Grandpa. She's keeping him company.”
Thank goodness!
If Mimi had witnessed that vile woman lash her with the cane, it would traumatize her for life.
This environment wasn't safe.
Violet was afraid if they kept staying here, it was either Becca raised her daughter into a haughty vile woman like her, or she would break the girl's self-esteem.
“Tell someone to get her. We're leaving for the Villa today.”
Her words didn't settle well with him, and the huge frown on his face was proof.
Clyde shoved both hands into his pockets, giving her an apprehensive look. “Why can't we live here?”
“Isn't it obvious?” She scoffed.
After applying the medication, Violet stood up and put on her jacket.
“Grandpa wants us to stay close.” Clyde softened his voice.
Walking forward, he held her waist, catching her off guard. “We're not leaving the mansion. By the way, I've already sold the Villa.”
“Liar!” Violet glared at him.
