Chapter 68 On His Way

Did he think he could fool her?

Any day Clyde sold one of his properties, then the world might probably end because the CJ Group was notorious for preserving its assets.

“You can stay if you want. I'm leaving with Mimi.”

Violet was more worried about her baby.

She honestly didn't want her to grow up in this kind of environment.

Giving her a hopeless look, Clyde's shoulders dropped in defeat. “I'm sorry about what happened.”

“I thought you didn't believe me!” Turning her back to him, Violet folded her arms.

Why was he sorry now?

Hadn't he taken his mother's side?

He didn't care about her, so he probably didn't mind the lashes Becca gave her.

But the truth had been right in front of him. Why did he choose to turn a blind eye?

“I know my Mum, Violet. I know what she's capable of.” He wrapped his arms around her, hugging from behind. “And I've made sure she won't repeat that.”

Was she supposed to believe him?

“Does it hurt?” He touched her arm. “I'm very sorry.”

So he'd believed her instead of his mother.

Yet, he didn't do anything when she was present.

Should Violet feel flattered?

Hadn't he commanded her to remain quiet back there?

“Take off your jacket. Let me have a look.” Clyde continued as he unbuttoned the jacket. “It hurts to see you sad.”

What a big liar!

Violet wasn't going to fall for his sweet nothings.

His gentle and kind words no longer had any effect on her.

Walking out of his embrace, she pushed him aside and headed to the door.

She came out in time to find Freya walking down the hallway.

Right!

Where had her best friend been while Clyde’s mother bullied her?

“Oh my God, Vi, are you alright?” Freya quickly caught her, holding her shoulders and checking her out from head to toe. “I heard the servants gossiping- I heard that your heartless mother-in-law gave you a hundred lashes.”

Ah!

Would Violet be standing here if Becca had given her a hundred lashes?

Shaking her head at her friend's dramatic tone, she scoffed. “Were you hiding while Becca bullied me?”

“O- Of course, not!” Freya denied firmly, staring at her warily. “I was busy convincing him not to come.”

“Who?” Violet frowned.

But Freya glanced from her left to right.

Then she grabbed her hand and took her out of the building.

Once outside, she finally stepped close and whispered in her ear. “Asher is on his way. I tried to stop him.”

Violet gasped, her heart skipping a beat. “Is he coming today?”

“He's already in this city, I think.” Freya groaned. “Things are gonna get complicated, I can feel it! After what you told me last night, I had this bad premonition. I- I thought I could explain it to Ash, but…”

Freya didn't need to speak further.

Violet's heart would be more at ease if she didn't mention that word.

If Asher suddenly appeared here, it would only cause more trouble for her.

Nobody must know that she got engaged to another woman, or else-

“Can't you find another way, V?” Freya sighed. “I don't trust your ex-husband. Something tells me he's up to no good.”

But Violet only needed one month to make Clyde sign the divorce.

She only had to be patient for a little while.

Her problem right now was telling Asher everything.

It would also be bad if Asher suddenly showed up here.

“Since he's already on his way, let's ask him to meet at Melody Cafe.”

Strangely, Asher hadn't called her yet.

Violet was surprised that he spoke with Freya on the phone.

She didn't need to go back to the house lest Clyde waste her time.

As Freya brought out her phone to speak with Asher, they both headed towards the backyard.

“Where's Mimi, by the way?” Freya glanced up.

“At Grandpa Luke's quarters,” Violet replied.

She couldn't bring Mimi along also. Otherwise, that might alert the heartless man, Clyde, who would definitely stop her from going.

“Young Miss!” A maid called out, running towards them.

Violet could only see her face properly when she approached.

“Thank you so much, Young Miss… you're a lifesaver. I'm indebted to serve you for life.”

It was the same maid Becca had bullied.

Violet wondered why she was thanking her.

Because she'd stood up for the poor girl, she was a hundred percent sure that Becca would fire her for real.

“The Butler just informed me that I'll be your personal maid from now on and will only work in the Young Master’s quarters,” The girl went on, shedding happy tears. “Young Miss, I don't know what to say. You literally saved my life!”

Huh?

When did that happen?

Violet didn't expect the maid to be pardoned and her rank upgraded.

Only servants who had worked for many years had the opportunity to become personal maids in the Crawford Household.

“You're welcome.” She was happy for the maid anyway.

Now that she belonged in her quarters, Violet would like to see how Becca would be able to bully her.

She had a feeling that it was Clyde who did that.

The heartless man who trampled on the servants, was he turning a new leaf?

“Lucky for you!” Freya commended the maid. “Now hop on. And don't tell anyone that you saw us sneaking out.”

The maid's eyes widened.

Violet gasped as well, facepalming herself. “Damnit! Freya.”

“Y- Young Miss, are you running away?” The maid stuttered, giving her an astonished look.

Of course, not!

But Violet wouldn't be able to leave through the gates without Clyde's permission. And Clyde wasn't going to let her go out.

So the best option was jumping through the fence. It wasn't like she wasn't gonna return.

“Mimi is with Grandpa Luke. Can you keep an eye on her before I return?” She asked the maid who nodded quickly.

“The Little Young Miss is so adorable. I won't leave her out of my sight. I'll also keep your secret, Young Miss.” The young maid bid them goodbye and ran off.

Giving Freya a helpless look, Violet continued walking.

When they passed through the backyard, the dogs were no longer there, fortunately.

The bodyguards weren't patrolling that area either.

“Wait here, I'll go first. Lemme check if it's safe.” Freya climbed onto the fence and jumped first.

Violet waited for a sign only to hear her best friend scream so loud that the birds flew.
