Chapter 76 Gifts!

Well, that was embarrassing.

Violet wished the ground would open up and swallow her whole.

Shutting her eyes, she sank in embarrassment.

Clyde didn't hear her moan, right?

Urgh! Damnit!

She was done for.

How could she let his touch affect her so much?

Why couldn't she get a hold of herself?

Did she even have control over her body?

She bit her lips, struggling to keep her heartbeat in check as the effect of his touch still lingered.

Moments later, Violet was able to calm down.

She opened her eyes, however, there was a storm in his eyes.

Staring at her, Clyde's eyes darkened with desire, his Adam's apple bobbed up and down.

He pressed forward and all the energy to push him away departed her.

Her knees were the weakest, her entire body failing her at the moment.

Honestly, Violet was afraid…

This kind of effect the man had on her scared her to the core.

When he leaned forward again, whispering in her ears, her insides melted immediately.

“It's a servant from Grandpa's quarters,” Clyde said in a strained voice as if fighting over his own desire. “I bet Grandpa sent him to spy on us.”

Why?

Violet didn't say out the word, knowing well that the embarrassing sound might be the only thing leaving her lips.

Her chest heaved up and down, pressed hard against him.

She fought to avoid eye contact.

She fought not to give herself away.

“Grandpa doesn't believe us,” Clyde said as if hearing her unspoken question. “He has seen through our lies I guess.”

The more he continued whispering in her ear, his lips touching the weak spot on her nape, the more Violet lost her mind.

She nodded to his words despite finding them unnecessary.

So what if his grandfather saw through their lies?

“You don't know Violet, but Grandpa hasn't been well since you left.” His other hand slid into her dress, tracing strange patterns on her back.

Was he doing that intentionally to gauge a reaction from her?

Or was it to mislead the spy?

Clyde's actions were more confusing than his words.

Violet just wished he could stop it before she lost her mind.

“Grandpa only has a short time left to live,” He added in a sullen tune. “Your return has improved his health, Honey… Can we act as if we're in love?”

Violet gasped.

She wasn't sure if her reaction was from him touching her back or from the news he just told her.

She never knew that Grandpa Luke had been ill in her absence.

She never considered the old man's reaction to their divorce.

By saying that his grandfather had only a short time left to live, did that mean…

“One month. After one month, it'll all be over.” Clyde continued in his exploration. Violet was surprised that she hadn't lost her mind yet.

One month?

Was that why he brought up that condition?

Was there agreement because of Grandpa Luke's health?

“How should I be sure that you're not lying?” Her words came out shallow the same as her breathing.

Clyde’s lips curled into a tiny smile despite the topic not being funny.

But Violet had a feeling that his smile was due to something else.

The stupid man was enjoying the effect he was having on her.

“There's no use in lying…” He replied. “Trust me, Violet… I'll make you the happiest woman.”

Why did that word sound familiar?

It was as if she'd heard him say it before. When?

Violet closed her eyes as memories flashed in her vision.

Memories of them sharing a passionate kiss,

Memories of him touching her and she begging for more.

Her throat ran dry immediately, and she swallowed… nothing.

In that second, realization dawned on her. Last night-

Violet opened her eyes to be met with the mischievous smile on his face.

Chuckling softly, Clyde tucked a stray strand of her hair behind her ear. “Still wanna keep the no-intimacy rule?”

Violet stiffened. “W- What did you do… last night?”

“More like what did you do, Sweetheart,” Clyde responded.

For a minute, Violet couldn't react as that blurred memory was gradually becoming clear.

Had she made a fool of herself last night?

Did- Did it happen between them?

Way to go!

And to think that she only set up that rule only a night before.

A shuttling sound dragged her back to the present.

Violet glanced to the corner of her eyes following the source of the sound.

Indeed, a servant was spying on them.

The guy hid behind one of the flower bushes, peeking through a tiny hole.

Grandpa Luke wouldn't send someone to spy on them except if he had doubts.

So Clyde was speaking the truth.

“You haven't answered my question…” The man's sultry voice dragged her attention.

It sounded unusually deep… unusually sexy.

“Wanna lift the no-intimacy rule-”

“No!” Violet shut him up before he finished speaking.

She shook the crazy thoughts off her mind, finally returning to her senses.

Catching him off guard, she pushed him away and took to her heels.

Violet didn't care that she was hurrying as if a monster was chasing after her.

She just needed to be far from him.

She couldn't trust Clyde again. She couldn't fall for his tricks.

She stopped at the mansion’s field and sat on a swing, taking in a long drag of the morning’s fresh air.

Fanning herself with both hands, she tried hard to calm down,

But it was so difficult to do that when her best friend was right ahead with that guy again, standing under a tree and kissing deeply.

It only reminded Violet of her vulnerabilities. The effect Clyde was having on her.

Could she survive one month under the same roof as the man?

Watching Freya kiss that guy brought back memories of last night with Clyde. Violet left there immediately.

She headed to their quarters and met the maid who was struggling to carry three large boxes of gifts down the hallway.

“These are gifts for the Little Young Miss,” the maid revealed even before Violet asked.

Gifts. From who?

“Ma’am Cora is so kind and considerate. She even bought the Little Young Miss a toy car.”
