Chapter 20

Sterling scoffed inside. She wasn’t the only one he would talk to when he’s sad. There’s God and there’s Assistant Li and Mike too.

He wondered why she kept saying she was the only one he got as if there was any deep relationship between them.

Seeing that she wouldn’t give up asking him what was wrong, Sterling changed the topic.

“How’s your finger?” he asked her.

It has been almost a week already that she deliberately injured herself but she pretended she was still in pain when he asked her.

“Oh, I was thinking we should go to the hospital to have my finger checked. I can’t even do anything with the hand.” she sighed worriedly.

“Assistant Li will take you tomorrow.” Sterling said but that didn’t go well with her. She wanted to go with him and not Assistant Li. It was better she go alone than to go with Assistant Li.

“No, I want to go with you.” she insisted. But he wouldn’t even have the time to go with her. He have to go to his company on time to set a good example to his employees.

“You can leave now, it’s time to sleep.” he said but she didn’t want to leave his room and Sterling didn’t want to sleep in the same room with her less what happened the other day repeat itself.

But he managed to send her out of his room and then locked the door so she wouldn’t be able to enter again.

The next morning when Sterling came out from his room ready to go work, he found Isabella already dressed up waiting for him in the living room.

She put on a smiley face when she saw him coming down the stairs.

“Good morning sunshine.” she smiled at him but he only frowned.

“Good morning Mr. Hawthorn.” Assistant Li bowed to him.

He looked at Isabella who was sitting on the sofa all dressed up with her hand bag beside her.

“Is Isabella going with us?” he asked

Isabella glanced at him with a smirk. It was too early for him to start poking his nose in what didn’t concern him.

“Of course yes, I’m going with you guys today. Darling will take me to the hospital then ill go to the company with you.” she smiled.

“Like seriously? She would go to the company with us?” Assistant Li pointed to his chest.

“Of course, Li. Got any problem with that?” she scoffed at him.

“No.” He shook his head. Why would he got a problem with that when she wouldn’t even stay in the same place with him at the company?

And speaking about the hospital, he wondered what they would be going to do.

“You look fine, Isabella. Why do you want to go to the hospital?” he asked her. And as if she was waiting for him to ask her that, she put on a mischievous grin.

“Sterling and I are planning for a kid so, we are going there to see the doctor.” she said excitedly.

Assistant Li’s jaw dropped. A kid? With Isabella? Was his boss joking or not?

“You must be out of your mind.” Sterling said to Isabella. He was so lost in thought thinking about what happened the previous day. But when Isabella made mention of that, he came back to his senses.

A kid with Isabella? He would rather go somewhere else and find another person to make his wife or baby mama.

Assistant Li heaved a sigh of relief when Sterling said that.

Isabella rolled her eyes. She thought Sterling wouldn’t say anything to make her look like a liar because he doesn’t talk much.

“It’s her finger.” Sterling said to assistant Li who was staring at Isabella.

“You mean the finger? But I thought it was only a little wound and it has healed.” he raised a brow.

“No!” she snapped at him.

“I think we should leave now, we are wasting time here.” Isabella stood from the sofa and carried her bag.

“We are here.” Isabella announced when they arrived at the hospital. Sterling didn’t even look at her, he was so busy playing games on his phone.

“Let’s go, darling.” she got down from the car. “Go with Li.” Sterling said to her without even looking her way.

“NO, I want to go with you.” she said stubbornly. But there was no way he would go in to the doctor’s office with her.

No one knew her as his cousin. And even if they do, they would think she’s his girlfriend and they might thinkk something different brought them there.

“Go with Li.” Sterling repeated. Luckily, his phone rang and he quickly answered it and put the phone on his ear blocking his face from her eyes.

Isabella stayed there for some minutes thinking Sterling would agree to go with her after making his call. But he didn’t look like he would end the call any time soon.

“Fine!” she stamped her feet on the ground and slammed the cars door startling Sterling.

He scoffed and continued what he was doing. In his mind, she dint know what she was doing. If she knew, she wouldn’t have said they should go inside the hospital together.

It wasn’t even up to two minutes that she left and she opened the door again.

“Let’s leave, the doctor is on leave.” she said. The doctor on leave? But there were many doctors in that hospital as it was the biggest one in the city.

Unless nothing was wrong with her finger. He shook his head and looked away. He didn’t have energy to waste in talking to her.

[Going to the company for the first time]

Sterling wanted to drop her off at home but she didn’t want to go. She insisted she would go to the company with him. And again, she reminded him there was no one inside the apartment to stay with her.

As soon as the car drove inside the company, Isabella’s jaw dropped and she exclaimed. She didn’t know that was how the company was.

She has never go there before and that was her first time. When her friends and other people talk about how big and beautiful the company was, she would think they were over hyping the company.

She didn’t know they weren’t joking around. Sterling has indeed spent a fortune decorating that company.

No wonder all the business men in that city wants to partner with him or wants him to partner with them.

“Wow Sterling, I didn’t know this is how your company is.” she giggled, looking around as if that was the first time she was stepping in to a company.

Sterling gave her a slight smile. He love it when people complement his company. Isabella was glad she said that because that was the first smile she was receiving from him since the day she returned back to the city.

“And you look so cute smiling too. Wouldn’t it be better if you can keep on smiling?” she giggled but Sterling walked away,

Why would he be smiling all the time like a clown? He chuckled inside then walked away.

“Hey, wait for me.” she ran after him and locked her hand in his so they would go in together.

Assistant Li didn’t like that Isabella was holding Sterling’s hand but Sterling didn’t mind. After all, most of the employees already knew who she was. And they wouldn’t gossip about him,

But he was wrong because as soon as they entered the elevator and left, the ones present in the reception started gossiping about them.

“When did Mr. Hawthorn started dating that lady?” one of them asked the other one.

“Dating?” the other one scoffed.

“You don’t know her because she has never come in here before. But she is his cousin and I think they are so close.”

“But that doesn’t look like closeness alone. I think they are in love. Didn’t you see the way they were holding hands? Mr. Hawthorn doesn’t hold hand with ladies, he doesn’t even talk to them.” the other one nodded his head.

“You are right, girl. I think Mr. Hawthorn and miss Isabella are in love. Whatever it is, we will soon find out.”

Isabella released his hand as soon as they stepped out from the elevator. She scoffed at his secretary who was staring at her like she owe her something.

Isabella ignored her, she knew girls like that only worked as secretary to the rich men just to get their hearts. But unfortunately for her, Sterling wasn’t the type of those people that date their employees.

“Get something for her to drink.” he ordered Assistant Li who was staring at Isabella as she roam around the office touching one thing and another. He bowed his head then left the office.

“Darling, I really love your company. Can I start working here, please?” she clasped her palms together.

But Sterling didn’t even answer her. Why would he even dream of letting her work in his company? Unless he was ready to lose all his employees.

“And before I start working here, I want you to fire your secretary. I don’t like her. Did you see the way she was looking at me? She is jealous to see me with you.” she scoffed.

Sterling sighed inside. Just when he was having a thought about that.

“Do you want to see the other departments?” Sterling asked her as he was getting ready to go supervise the departments and he wouldn’t leave her alone in his office unless he want her to go through his privacy.

“Yeah!” she jumped excitedly.

After Sterling stood up from the chair, she locked her hand in his again like earlier.

As soon as they stepped out of the office, her eyes caught with the secretary who was staring at him in anger. Isabella rolled her eyes and held on to Sterling’s hand more tightly to make the girl more jealous as she already knew the girl was being jealous of them.

“Oh, are you going out, Mr. Hawthorn? I’ve prepared the files you asked for three days ago.” the secretary said, holding some files in her hand.

“Three days ago and you decided to do it today?” Isabella gasped. “What sort of a secretary are you? You don’t even know your work, girl. You should have done this the exact day he asked you to.” she turned to Sterling.

“Is this the kind of people you deal with in your company, darling? This is so bad. I think you should hire another people and fire this ones.”

The secretary frowned. She could have answered Isabella but because of Sterling who was there, kept mute.

And who does she think she is to refer to Sterling as darling? The secretary didn’t like the sound of that.

Sterling was so embarrassed when she called him that name in front of the secretary. That was the first time she was saying it properly.

“Let’s go.” he dragged her away from there before she would embarrass him further.

“I’m not done.” she struggled with him to release her but Sterling didn’t release her hand. He took her away from the floor to the other floor where the first department was.

“Come on Sterling, you should have allowed me talk some senses in to her head. She doesn’t know her work, you should consider hiring those that knows what they are doing.” Sterling nodded his head.

He heard her. But would he do as she want? No, not in his company.

Their visits to the first department, the second and up to the last one wasn’t a good one. Sterling regretted going with her. It would have been better if he left her in his office.

Isabella insulted almost all the employees in that company in just some minutes of meeting them.

He felt so embarrassed because they will start saying his cousin was a rude kind of a person.
