Return of the Alpha Heiress
Chapter 28: Tragedy
Chapter 29
Aria’s POV
I couldn’t stand seeing them that way, my brain couldn’t take it any longer. And as I turned to leave the scene, someone shouted my name from the crowd. I didn’t want to stop, I wasn’t ready to answer to any paparazzi’s questions.
It baffled me that they were so desperate to interview me when they could see the situation on ground. They didn’t care about it I guessed, they were only after what brought them there.
“Aria?”
The call came again, but this time, it wasn’t from the crowd. It seemed the person was standing behind me as the voice was low like a whisper.
As I turned around, my eyes locked with Jace’s. But before he could utter a word, my brother’s cars screeched. Jace wasn’t there again when I returned my gaze back to him, he had ran away seeing them.
“Aria?”
Damien, Elias, and Rafe group hugged me so tight that I couldn’t breath properly. And when I managed to break free from them, Kael hugged me too.
“Why didn’t you answer your calls? We were so scared.”
“I am so sorry,”
I whispered, resting my head on his chest.
If only there was a way I could turn back time, I would have corrected what went wrong. The accident wouldn’t have happened.
“Where were you? We thought your car was among the convoy.”
I couldn’t stop blaming myself over what happened. If only I hadn’t told them to go without me, they wouldn’t have met that tragedy. If I had gone with them, then none of that would have happened.
What some pack members were saying in regards to the maid servants prosecution gushed into my head like a storm. Maybe they were right. Perhaps I would be the doom of all of them.
Before I came to Bloodmook pack, nothing had ever gone wrong. I never saw in the news that something terrible happened there. But with my presence, things seemed to be going south. Apparently I was the problem.
“Get some rest, we will talk about this tomorrow.”
After Kael left the room, I adjusted the blanket and turned to the left. My fingers clutched the blanket so tight on my chest and for the first time that day, tear dropped from my eyes.
At that moment, I started thinking of what to do to make things right. How I would stop getting myself into trouble and how I will stop causing trouble.
‘Do not blame yourself,’
Liza whispered, her voice so comforting that it calmed me a little.
‘Jace saved us.’
Yeah, it seemed like that.
“But we can’t change the fact that those many bodyguards died because of…”
‘Gurl, relax!’
She snapped. Liza sounded like she was pissed off with my attitude. I mean, she was the one always acting so cowardly not me.
‘You can’t keep blaming yourself. That would have happened if you didn’t send them back. Who knows? The people that staged the attack would have followed us to the training ground and when they do, what do you think will happen?’
“All the youngsters who were present there, mason, the bodyguards, and me would have died.”
‘Wonderful!’
She stomped her paws.
‘Now you get what I mean. By the way, not all of them died, only a few of them did. Imagine if they’d followed us there.’
Liza was right and her words brought comfort to my soul. No need blaming myself over what had already happened. Even if I was there, I can’t save them because I have no control over it.
The next day when I finally got the strength to step out of the room, it was already noon. My stomach was rumbling like thunder and my throat was so dry because nothing has gone into my mouth since morning.
Stepping down the stairs, I overhead conversation from the living room. It was a serious one which made me contemplated on going down. But the familiarity in that voice couldn’t allow me turn back to my room.
I kept on going down until I arrived at the living room. My brothers were all seated on the sofas, their faces painted in anger. And kneeling on the carpet in front of them was a lady, crying.
Her long deep-red hair laid on her back, and as she spoke, my steps moved closer.
“Please forgive me, I have learnt my lesson.”
Nobody needed to tell me who that was, but the appearance would someone confuse her for someone else.
She changed her hair color, and she looked like she has gone through hell out there. It hadn’t even been two months ever since she left, but she looked like she was gone for years.
“After all you’ve done?”
Rafe barked.
“You shouldn’t have come back here,”
Damien scowled.
“You are no longer needed, and it is a good thing that you brought yourself back. We’ve been looking all over for you but it seemed like you disappeared from the surface of the earth.”
Elias hissed.
Kael stood up and she started trembling in fear. However, he walked past her, but stopped in front of me.
“You are awake.”
As he hugged me, their attention was drawn to me. My other brothers stood up, hurrying towards me. The anger on their faces had all vanished, replaced by love and concern.
“Little sis, how are you feeling now?”
“Do we need to go to the hospital?”
“We have a doctor in the house, don’t forget.”
“I should examine you again and prescribe…”
As they were talking, my eyes darted to Lana who was still kneeling on the carpet, teary eyes fixed on us.
When our eyes met, she frowned, wiped off the tears in her eyes and bit her lower lip angrily. If the hatred she once had for me was one hundred percent, then the one she returned with has skyrocketed to one thousand percent. Because if given the opportunity, Lana would stab me to death right there.
“What are you still doing there?”
Kael snapped at her, jolting her back to her senses.
“We want you out of here as soon as possible!”
Damien pointed towards the door.
Lana exploded into a fresh wail. She dragged her knees towards us, rubbing her palms together.
“Aria, please talk to them. Forgive me.”
