Chapter 43: Bursted

Jace’s POV

That wasn’t how I wanted Aria to find out; I never wanted her to even find out because being the Supreme Alpha wasn’t on my to-do list. If I had known she was the guest I was informed was coming, I wouldn’t have just hidden in my car; I would have run out of the city.

“Hi.”

I waved, feeling like running away from there. Those were the kind of moments I always wished I possessed some sort of magic.

“The Supreme Alpha? Should I…”

I lifted my hand, cutting my assistant off from saying a word. It was him who lured me out of the car. He sent me a text saying the guests were already gone.

“Get out of here.”

He bowed his head and scampered away.

When my eyes met Aria’s, she was staring at me in confusion mixed with annoyance. I had been trying my best to win her over, but at that moment, something crossed my mind: Aria would never accept me as her mate ever again.

“When were you going to tell me?”

She threw the question I prayed she wouldn’t ask as soon as Kael stepped away.

“Let’s not talk about this now. What brought you here?”

Even as I tried to change the topic, Aria wouldn’t let it slide.

“Do not mistake it, I am not the supreme Alpha, my dad is.”

“Your father is dead.”

Dang it! She knew. Living as an omega in another pack, I thought she would never know anything about the whole kingdom. The former Supreme Alpha died when I was just two years old, Aria wasn’t even born by then.

“I mean my uncle, he is just like a dad to me… he is the acting Supreme Alpha.”

My late father’s immediate younger brother ascended the throne until I came of age as soon as my father died. And ever since I turned 18th, they’d been on my neck, they wouldn’t let me be, they wanted me to take over as soon as possible because according to them, my uncle whom I called father was getting old.

Someone even hinted to me that they were afraid that my cousin would take over the throne if my uncle died as the acting Supreme Alpha. I cared less about the title, i just wanted to be alone, just to be a free person.

Aria scoffed.

“Since you came to see the Supreme Alpha, I will direct you to him.”

I suggested as she was already losing interest in talking to me. Seeing her alone was bringing peace into my heart, causing me to want to embrace her.

Fortunately, she didn’t decline, she told me to lead the way.

“Where is my father?”

I asked my assistant who was pacing back and forth in the living room. He quickly stopped, bowed his head, and pointed to the extra-large stairs.

“In his study room.”

So typical of my uncle. He was always in the study room, studying what only he knew.

“But the young la…I mean the Alpha came to seek your audience, Supreme Alpha.”

“For the last time, I am not the Supreme Alpha, my Uncle is!”

I was so pissed off that I lost control and yelled at him. That wasn’t the first time I would tell him to stop calling me that. Maybe if he had heeded my words, he wouldn’t have called me that in front of Aria that day, and she wouldn’t have known that I was the Heir to the throne. She would have just assumed I was there to see the Supreme Alpha for something else.

“You can’t change that.”

Aria huffed, her arms crossed beneath her chest. She was staring at me with a smirk, clearly showing she was pissed off with my attitude.

“Can you take me to him already?”

She urged, heading to the stairs. Funny enough, she didn’t stop walking even when my assistant was telling her to stop, saying that only family members were allowed to go to the study room.

I followed her, watching her in amazement. Seeing Aria getting prettier every day brought joy to my heart, it gave me the full reassurance that her brothers were taking good care of her. Unlike when she was running around in the Moonclaw and Silverclaw pack as an omega, doing all sorts of tasks and being harassed by those morons.

My fingers clenched into a fist when the memories of when the men would harass her, touching her in the places she wasn’t comfortable being touched. How she would run away from them, the times she would cry in a corner, and those moments Lana and other people would yell and hit her in public.

Shamefully, my fingers loosened their grip when I recalled the day she noticed me, the day we both realized we were each other’s mate. I should have just taken her away from there, but I was such a fool to have left her behind because I was in a hurry to go see my uncle, because I was told that he was at the hospital.

“What are you thinking about?”

Her soft, sweet voice rang in my ears like a melody, soothing my mood.

“Nothing. This way.”

I led her to the study room which was in the right wing, my Uncle and his family’s quarters, smiling. But as soon as we turned to the right wing, someone called my name from the left wing which was my quarters.

“I have been looking all over the place for you, Jace.”

My cousin, Alex, said, grinning as he walked down the stairs. I wondered what he was doing in my quarters when he knew that I would never be there. Whatever it would be, I was sure it wasn’t something good. Among all my cousins living in the mansion, Alex was the eldest and the only person I didn’t trust with anything.

“Oh, oh, oh… who is this damsel?”

When he winked at Aria, it felt like a pierced needle in my heart. Anger rose in my chest like wildfire, and when he extended his hand to her for a handshake, I didn’t know when I turned his hand, wriggling it.

“What is your problem?”

He thundered, staggering backward holding his right wrist.

“Stay away from her or else I will take your life!”

I threatened, heart pounding, and eyes red in anger.

No man must touch Aria, not in my presence!
